Up Root/Down StemPluck me down from the apple treeUp Root/Down Stem2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Whose roots extend so deep,
Hold me in your pale, small hand
I'm good enough to eat.
With lashes long and lips so red and
teeth as white as snow
You bite into my cold, hard flesh,
Not what you wanted at all.
Over the shoulder, Earth to meet,
An echo of the sound
of footsteps soft and gait so light,
Your roots reach through my ground.
Strong a tug, mighty a pull,
beastly is the hull
of the world as round spun upside-down
as an apple-turning top.
Uprooted from the sturdy place
of stem once fused with tree
Cascades once again into starless night
And for-ever-dark a deep, black sea.
Hello AugustHello August3 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Shuffling softly in the twilight of morning
blooming children once wandered along the drifting sidewalks
feeling only scattered freckles of broken sunlight
drip across their faces.
Rolls of fresh dew tumble down unraveled flowers
nestling gently in the corners of their toes.
They skid through puddled asphalt
soaking deep the buried harmonies beneath their cursive breath;
the taste of past summers still
steaming on their tongues.
Eternal Life [Remix]Eternal Life [Remix]:Eternal Life [Remix]3 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
We are creatures of mortality
Born to live and die.
Yet there are those amongst us
Who resent the last goodbye.
They see it as an end to things;
The call of colder waves.
They have a fear of being trapped;
Locked away in graves.
But deep beneath the buried earth
No one hears you scream.
Pound and smash against the coffin;
End this horrid dream!
Kiss the flower of the reaper
Bear his blissful touch...
Soon you will be wisked away
Warm within his clutch!
But now you know the dreaded fear
Of why we cannot die.
We hear the reaper calling us
That we cannot lie.
In both our dreams and waking nights;
We see the blackest fate.
His cackles fill our bitter days
And they will not abate.
That is why we drink this now
Poison good or ill.
Either we will live forever
Or die against his will.
"I will not be death's puppet..."

What Are You To Me?What Are You To Me?:What Are You To Me?2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
I have walked in this world,
And they have told me of kings.
Of brave rulers who make the tough choices,
Men of example and outstanding character.
But it was then that they said,
What is a king to a God?
What is a mere mortal to a higher power,
One who holds our fate in his hands?
They said he was benevolent and kind,
Wrathful and jealous, magnanimous and selfish alike.
He was the perfect ideal, embodying all things
And we were made in his image...
It was then that I was laughed at,
By he who asked this question:
What is a God, to a non-believer?
One who lives by the truth he sees...
He is the man who acts as per his morals.
He lives through his eyes and is judged by his fellows.
He submits to no higher being, not a one does he fear;
Comfortable with his own conscience...
But all three, I beg; I ask ye this:
For what is a king to a God,
A God to a non-believer,
And all three of them in comparison,
To the madman who watches the world burn...

Without anyone to talk to,
Yeah we met last week
I'm so glad
You actually remembered me.
Hey remember me?
That we could hang out.
I know it might
Seem a bit strange to ask
But are we friends?
Now I can be at ease
You’re really here with me
It wasn't just a tease.
Hey remember me?
Just a little bit though
I thought you liked me
Because of that
Because of the way I am
Hey remember me?
To keep up a smile
But it’s getting pretty hard
Because every once in awhile
It seems like all you want
Is for me to cry.
Is that what a friend does?
Hey remember me?
Please say you do
I'm your friend
And all that entails
So I can take them
All your continual assails
As long as you remember me
I doubt my heart will fail.
Hey remember me?
I'm being forgotten
Though I suppose that means you don't
You never do
Never even try to
Even after all I've begged of you
Even after all we've been through
You treat me like
A New FeelingA New Feeling2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Your hair glows like the purest snow
on a cold pale night
Your eyes linger on my lips
begging, inviting me with the fire in your eyes
A new feeling bursts into my body, I feel it down to the core
I'm falling for you, everyday even more
Thinking about you, so far away
Waiting, I feel so alone
I finally found someone, and hes already gone
I will see him again, the day will come
and when I do, we will become one
I was tempted, with that look in your eyes
That fiery gaze, with it I could die
My lips met yours, and it was so sweet
Savory and sinister, soon again we will meet...

born a week too late, she had
melancholy in her bones: doctor lizbet
took time out of her schedule to pluck her
newborn strings - calloused sanitation against
mottled pink-and-yellow flesh & thrashing limbs.
in three more years, she will have
nothing in her bones at all: doctor estair
diagnosed her with iatrophobia to fuel her
instinctive chords - ripple-free shells of liquid
lobotomy & a capsule to callous her pink-and-yellow
flesh against the thought of just getting over it all.
ten years after that, her mother will
find her face down and thrashing: her dust
bunny bones will flex as she retches up her memories
for display - lawyers will spend the next few years pawing
through them with clawed hands and heaving breathing until
one day, they find lizbet and estair huddled amid the rubble of her bones.
Laughing JackThere is a clown called Laughing Jack,Laughing Jack1 year ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Who’s favorite colors are white and black.
He befriends lonely children they say,
For those are always his favorite prey.
He’ll play with you and give you candy,
So you will think him fine and dandy.
But with fearsome claws and razor teeth,
A monster lies just beneath.
So be wary child, of this horrid clown,
Whose laugh is a twisted, awful sound.
For every word I speak is true.
For his next victim might be you.

Wings Of Fire
Send me off to the fiery abyss
Free me from life's grip
Morals have been tortured
Strengths have been reversed
Desires have been submersed
I plead for you to pass the torch
Hand over the destiny I've been waiting for
Let me finish off this unbearable dirge
Weep not for singed sins
Leave behind the memories
Mourn not for scarred skin
Forgive every tragedy
Set ablaze that darkness within
Grasp onto serenity
Fuel the flame for the ending
Cling onto clarity
There's peace after pain
Calm can engulf chaos
There's love behind hate
Freedom masks weakness
I've abandoned every promise
I couldn't complete what was said
My hope cannot rise from the ashes
Please, do not follow my footprints of flame
They only lead down a path where infernos cascade
There is no honorable life or even death for what I became
Consume this cruel reality
Found God1. The first time I found GodFound God11 months ago in Urban & Spoken Word More Like This
Was when I was 15.
I found God in a pen.
I scribbled down words
And he brought them to life.
2. They found God in their phone.
Instead of handling the awkwardness
Of the party,
They prayed to God to get them out.
3. He found God in his paycheck.
He locks himself in his office
As if it was a church,
Hoping to see God again.
I think I saw him praying
Last week when I visited.
4. She found God
In the mirror.
When she looked at God
In the eyes,
She freaked out
And punched the mirror until it shattered.
The devil put his hand over
Her fist and told her it’ll be alright.
5. They found God in each other.
I thought that would make them happy
But every time they’re together,
They throw the Devil at each other
In an odd game of Dodge ball.
6. He found God
At the bottom
Of a Bottle.
And every time he sees him,
God shows him a little piece
Then helps him vomit out the demons
Inside of him.

Then she found God in hers

I would be the only one awake
Excited to visit Wonderland
Where everything is the opposite of reality
I would hug my stuffed rabbit so he can keep me company
As I walk to the end of the hall to the old grandfather clock
I'd sprawl on the ground before it
Next to the tray of cookies and milk
That had started being left there
After the first time I fell asleep in this very spot
I ate the treat and sipped the milk in the teacup
As I waited for midnight
Tick tock, tick tock
Tickety tock, tickety tock
The sounds gave me lyrics and I softly sang the words
The words that lead me to a world of wonder
"Tick tock, tick tock,
Time is lost, time is lost
Tick, tock, tick tock
Forever lost, forever lost
Tick tock, tick tock,
My mind is lost "
And I repeat it until my eyes closed
Then I fell and fell
Down into the realm of my mind
Where anything is possible
It is a dream, but it seems so real
I'm tempted to stay,
