Gothstrike's Return Part 7
Gothstrike regained consciousness. There were three people around her. The doorman from Paudraics stood close by, her intimidating visage slightly marred by a stunningly beautiful body. The alien had ridges along her forehead and her teeth were sharp and pointed.
Standing next to the doorman was the blue-skinned alien she remembered from the scene at Paudraic's. She had a frown on her face as she looked down at Gothstrike. Across from them, on the other side of Gothstrike, stood a man she knew all too well. Officer Harrison looked down at Gothstrike.
The officer spoke "We need to stop meeting like this. You are lucky today Gothstrike," he sneered as he said her name, "No one has decided to press charges. This woman," he gestured at the blue-skinned alien "has vouched for your innocence, and after your target and her employer came in and saw you, they also decided to drop the charges."
Gothstrike's ears were still ringing from the woman's scream. She nodded and said "Then

Gothstrike stood in her room. She was already dressed in her hero's outfit, her face-paint was on. She was staring at the staff on the wall. Smiling, she picked it up. It felt good in her hands. Spinning it, she thought about the good they would do together. The people they will save. Gothstrike walked slowly to the door of her room. It was time to get back into fight. The question was, how bad have things got in Angel Falls?
It was dark already, and Gothstrike was wandering around the Docks. Things have changed quite a bit. Crime seemed to be more organized. The usual inter-gang wars have lessened somewhat. Gothstrike heard that a group known as the Canadian Syndicate were responsible, but didn't know how strong the alliance among thieves was. She knew the docks well, and it felt familiar to get started there. She first looked in on the Bonecrushers, with Marrow having gone missing nearly a year

Gothstrike stood vigil, watching Paudraic's. She had never been in the place, but knew full well that it was a den of inequity, and one frequented by some of the movers and shakers in Angel Falls. She watched the clientele enter and leave, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone who could give her answers.
Her cell phone started to vibrate, and she looked at the display. It was Detective Stewart, one of her contacts in the AFPD. She answered the phone. "Hello Detective."
The detective responded "Gothstrike, I checked into the background of the criminal you captured. He is a known hit-man. I got the warrant to check his accounts, but there has been no major deposit in weeks. We have no idea who hired him, or where he is staying. He must have received cash for the job."
Gothstrike frowned in frustration. Whoever hired him was careful to hide his or her tracks. "Thanks Detective. I'll let you know of any developments." She closed her phone and studied a person walking out of Paudric's

The man replied "You have the men I asked for?"
"Yes sir. I do. Your files never mentioned that Gothstrike could project energy blasts. It caught me completely by surprise."
The man replied "I didn't know. She never really showed evidence of it. Of course, she usually only dealt with thugs and street crime, so she probably never really needed to use it."
Mr. Untouchable frowned "Well, you wanted me to get caught, I just figured I'd have to fake it. Why did you want me arrested in this? The police only have information on one of my identities. It doesn't seem like it will have much bearing."
His employer replied "I wanted a specific officer on your case. It's going to be a fun ride. Remember to get my man to Paudraic's by tomorrow. I want to make her nervous."
Mr. Untouchable frowned "Who? One of the dancers? Waitresses? You aren't giving me much to go on

Private James McDermitt didn't like this assignment. Something just didn't seem right about it, but as a member of United States Armed Forces, he wasn't required to like, or even understand his assignment. He was required to do his duty.
He shifted the potted flowers to his other hand, they were heavier than he thought they would be. Must be a good ceramic pot he thought. He had inspected the plants before delivering them, even though he was told not to. There was nothing harmful he could see. There was no bomb or other device in the dirt or the plant.
Sighing, he turned the final corner. He saw a heavily muscled Asian woman sitting in a chair outside the room reading a magazine. Of course he knew who she was. You could not live in Angel Falls without knowing who Lin Li Wong was. The woman stood vigil outside the room of her teammate an

Gothstrike and Natell entered Guardian Hall. Gothstrike was using her staff to help balance herself. Her head was pounding, and she was having trouble focusing. She walked into the lab, and saw several Polygirls running around doing various things. Gothstrike smiled and said "Hey Poly. I've had one fuck of a day. I hope you have some news for me."
One of the Polygirls looked at Gothstrike and replied "Yeah, I do. Who's this?" she asked.
Gothstrike answered "This is Natell. She is one of the ladies at Paudraic's. She came to make sure I got home, and to help me figure out what's happening. She's psychic."
Polygirl raised her eyebrows "Psychic huh? Why do you need a psychic? Anyways, the phone belongs to a Father Michael Lebowitz, in Montreal. I've got QS looking into it. Also Angie is looking into things on the Angel Falls side of things."
Gothstrike groaned "You got a Tylenol or something? My head is pounding. I was set-up at Paudraic's. Some ex-military guys made it look like I paid t

Guardian Hall was silent. Gothstrike sat on the ground, tears in her eyes. She knew everything that happened. She could not control her actions, but she remembered every single one of them.
Polygirl was tending to the bruises on Gordon's body. He had quite a few after the fight. Natell sat in the corner, silent.
Gothstrike finally managed to speak "Gordon, I..." She paused, forcing down a fresh set of sobs "I am so sorry. I didn't know ... I couldn't control myself." She was at a loss for words. Nothing like this had ever happened to her. She was always in control. She depended on it. She had spent years training her body to react to every command she gave it. She had honed her reflexes to peak efficiency. All of that, taken away. She felt violated in a way that made her want to curl into a ball, to shut herself away from the world, so it would never happen again.
Gordon looked at Gothstrike with pity in his eyes. No, not quite pity. Understanding. "It's OK Gothstrike. I know what the
Gothstrike's Return Part 9Mr. Untouchable sat at the table with Thomas Maxwell. Paudraic's had returned to its normal hustle and bustle. The hubbub after Gothstrike attacked Powerwhine had died down. Maxwell handed Mr. Untouchable a suitcase. "This has your second payment, along with the instructions I need carried out. So far, everything is going according to plan. The media is beginning to question the attack here, and the police are beginning surveillance of Gothstrike.Gothstrike's Return Part 93 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Mr. Untouchable took the suitcase and said "Why are we doing things this way. Gothstrike is good, but I can take her down. Why go through all these hoops?"
Maxwell smiled "Because, if we just take her down, she becomes a martyr. The Guardians will just step in and continue the 'good fight'. We need to discredit them. We want the public to demand something be done about these so-called super-heroes."
Mr. Untouchable frowned "But the actions of the heroes are well-loved by the public. Despite her Soviet background, even the Soviet Superwoman is
Gothstrike's Return Part 6Polygirl examined the phone in detail. It was a disposable phone, one that couldn't be traced. She easily hacked past the security protocols on it. It only received one call, and made two, all for the same number. She traced the number to Montreal. Obviously this had something to do with the Canadian Syndicate.Gothstrike's Return Part 63 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Polygirl smiled. Man she was good at this. One of her copies quickly rang the Angel Falls police department, while another called a contact in Montreal. Polygirl would find out who was after the Guardians.
"Angel Falls Police Department, Detective Angie speaking." Angie said as she answered the phone. Hearing the rushed, but familiar voice on the other end of the line. "Slow down Polygirl. The Canadian Syndicate was behind the attack on Gothstrike?"
She listened as Polygirl revealed the information from the phone. "Does Gordon know anything?" She asked the heroine. "Then you should ask. It might give us m

Gothstrike stepped off the train and looked around at the train station. It was busy this time of day. Looking around, she almost half-expected some crazed super villain, monster, or gang of thugs to suddenly go berserk here, but nothing seemed amiss. Shouldering her backpack she walked to the exit. It was getting late, and after hours on the train, she needed to stretch her legs.
Gothstrike stepped outside the station, and breathed in the fresh air of Angel Falls. The first time she had been here since she left two months ago. Gothstrike thought back to that day...
Two Months ago
Gothstrike had been quiet after the invasion. She went about her usual day, but she was bothered by something. She quietly went to her room in Guardian Hall and packed her bags. She was heading back home to Chicago for a small time. Her mentor had fallen ill, and she planned on making his last days a bit more comfortable.

"No Poly, no Ewoks."
"C'mon Brandi, it would be great. I'll play Leia, and Gordon would be Han."
"No! Besides, it is a super hero convention. If we cosplay it should be as actual heroes or villains."
"Hmmm.. How about that idea I had about a year ago. We cosplay as each other! The extra arms I started making for you are in the storage rooms somewhere."
"Yea, that would be cool." Brandi considered, "but who would Gordon go as? I don't have a boyfriend he could cosplay as."
"Good point." Poly thinks for a moment, then smiles. "Maybe he can be a bystander that I saved from terrible villain, and is sooo grateful."
"Heh, yea. Some people can be Very grateful when you save their life." Brandi smiled in remembrance.
Poly was a little shocked. "You didn't! Did you?"
"Oh, maybe a few times. Cute guys need saving too." Brandi said with a mischievous smile.
Poly blushed a little. "Well, I'll talk with Gordon later to see if w
AftermathsTwisted Savant strode through the Angel Falls Hotel, headquarters of the Canadian Syndicate, the gang members scattering from his path like jackals before a lion. He knew he was taking a risk coming here, but he needed to know how much the Occupant knew about his actions the previous night. Of course, the risk was reduced since he was using the tele-presence drone he always did when dealing with the telepath.Aftermaths4 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Arriving at the door to the Occupant's office, he found the way barred by a heavily cyborgized black man. He stopped and crossed his arms, and a couple of seconds later, the guard moved out of the way. Savant pushed the door open and found the office in darkness. He reached out and flipped on the light switch while announcing, "And just where is the woman you promised me?"
The Occupant, sitting behind his desk, winced and shielded his eyes from the light. "Can you say that louder?" he asked in a pained voice. "I don't think my CONCUSSION heard you fully."

A sleek jet sped across the United States, heading eastwards towards the city of Angel Falls. Inside were the five unique young people who made up the GuardiaNext. They all wore blue uniforms with a stylized "G" on the front. The leader of them was a woman with shoulder length brown hair. She had a cape and a shirt. "So, that was unusual, even for us," she said to her teammates.
Name: Cecelia Crane
Powers: Psionic energy constructs, super strength, telepathy
Parents: Mindy Marvel, John Crane (adoptive)
"Tell me about it," another young woman with short cut red hair said. Her uniform didn't have sleeves, but did include pants and fingerless gloves. "It's not every day we team up with a giant lizard." She then looked over at the sole male in the cabin and said, "No offence."
Name: Lolita "Lita" Lemoine
Powers: Increases kinetic energy output
Parents: Angel Falls Star (formerly Quebec Star), Jean Lemoine

Suddenly, the helicopter's radio crackled to life. "Attention. This is the United States Navy. You are approaching a restricted location. Please alter you flight path or we will not be responsible for what happens."
The paparazzi grabbed the mike and said sarcastically, "What are you going to do? Shoot us down?"
The Navy radio operator replied, less formal than before, "Oh, we won't do anything. We'll just sit back and watch how the most powerful people in the city react when you invade their privacy."
The pilot looked over, in shock from the sudden realization. "I think we should turn around." The paparazzi, having come to the same one, didn't argue.

The VoteGeneral Alvaro Bardak exited his training room and paused a moment to get used to the reduced gravity. His training room was equipped with technology which could simulate increased gravity. Usually, he lifted weights and battled holographic fighters at eight times normal gravity. He began walking to the ship's teleporter. As the leader of the Guardians, he was due for a meeting with the other senior members of the team to vote on an important matter. The Lone Stranger had asked for Gordon Martin aka Raging Bull to join the team. Bardak wasn't sure if they should or not. On one hand, the young man seemed sincere in his claim of reformation. But he had committed many serious crimes, including kidnapping the most beloved member of the Guardians.
He stepped into his teleporter and made sure it was set to send him to the team's headquarters before activating it. However, instead of arriving where he expected to

Two of the most evil men in Angel Falls were meeting in a dockside warehouse, although not face to face. The Occupant lounged on a chair, his face cover by a Guy Fawkes mask. The green and black armored form of Twisted Savant stood in front of him, his arms crossed over his chest. However, it was actually a tele-presence drone controlled from miles away by the true Savant. He had just overseen another shipment of weapons for the Occupant's Canadian Syndicate. Having finished that, he said, "So I trust our business is concluded for now."
The Occupant shook his head behind the grinning mask. "I don't think so. I feel bad about the fact that you've done so much for me, and yet I've done nothing in return for you."
Savant's robotic double shook its head. "That's because there is nothing that you could do for me that I can't accomplish for myself. Good day."
The drone turned and started to walk away as the Occupant called out, "Oh, come now. There must be something I can do for

Gordon Martin stepped out of the elevator into the basement of the Guardians headquarters. He took a deep breath, preparing himself for what he was going to do. Ever since he first seen Paulina Wilson, better known as Polygirl, she had been on his mind. And yet, she had been unconscious the whole he was with her that night, after he had helped kidnap her and then rescue her. After that, he was in a jail cell for a while before he had been released into the custody of the Lone Stranger. Of course, while he was at the Strangers Industry facility, his movements were restricted. After he was accepted into the Guardians, he moved into one of the living quarters in the Guardians headquarters. He had hoped to be able to talk with Polygirl at the Guardians general meeting soon after, but never got the chance to due to what happened at it. And while she often worked in the lab in the basement of the HQ, he never could summon up the courage to go and see her. Until now.
