LHA CONTEST 2012: OPPOSITESWhat’s up?LHA CONTEST 2012: OPPOSITES3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As many of you will remember from last year’s festivities, August 13th is a very special day for lefties everywhere! Left Handers’ Day is a day where we can all get together freely and talk about our scissor preferences, smudged writing and how many times we’ve been heard: “Hey! Are you left handed?”.
Of course, we can do that any day. But on the 13th of August we have an awesome excuse. And once again, we’re providing you with the perfect excuse to put on that thinking cap and grab your art supplies to create something awesome for the LHA 2012 contest!
There are two sides to every coin: good and evil, day and night, law and chaos, left and right. This year’s theme is all about opposites, however you want to interpret them! Your piece can include any and all opposites, limited to only your imagination. It doesn’t have to relate to left-handedness, but just contrasting themes and o
Holiday Card Project 2013 Wrap-UpHoliday Card Project 2013 Wrap-Up2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
The Holiday Card Project returned in 2013, and it was a total hit! We received over 5,000 cards from 2,000 deviants in more than 60 different countries! A ton of deviants reached out to us, interested in helping to distribute cards to their local hospitals! With these volunteers' help, we distributed cards to 22 hospitals in the US and abroad!
The majority of the hospitals we worked with distributed the cards themselves, either through their own volunteers or by placing cards on the food trays of patients. We received letters of thanks from some hospitals, and a few even shared our cards on their Facebook pages! One thing all of the hospitals and patients had in common: they loved your cards!
One of our biggest surprises this year came from Bank of America! A deviant who works there got word of our project and told some people around the cor

Mini Movie ReviewsWith a 8 1/2 hour plane flight to and from England, and with downtime a result of stress, illness, and jet lag, I've been watching a lot of movies recently. I won't go into too much detail, but I just wanted to give my impressions on a couple movies I've seen recently.Mini Movie Reviews3 years ago in Personal More Like This
John Carter of Mars
John Carter was a troubled movie in every sense of the word. It was given enormous studio backing, wasn't publicized well, and generally was a box office failure, resulting in a key Disney executive to resign in disgrace.
I won't say that it's the best movie I've ever seen, but it's far far above average and it frustrates me that people didn't see it or take to it. It offers so much wonderful imagery and possibilities for filmmaking it would be a shame to see this potentially new (in the sense that it's new to the big screen) franchise die right at the start.
There are a few weak actors, primarily the Mars princess, but they still nevertheless keep the story running at a nice pace. Plus there a

Composition - Learning and Breaking the Rulez! A Camera can only shoot what you put in front of it!!!Composition - Learning and Breaking the Rulez!4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
We all know that there are limitations on a camera compared to the fantastic power of the human brain and eye as image processors. Being out in the 'field' so to speak, with the camera, our senses are alive and we literally capture all aspects of the things that surround us in our memories.
However it takes effort and preparation to fully capture those senses in a photograph for other people to enjoy. Or just to mark an occasion simply for your own memories.
What You Need
A Camera first and foremost is the most important aspect of this process as well as the ability to see a prospective picture in your surroundings. Whether it's an SLR or not doesn't matter, however the next important thing is a Tripod. Tripods not only allow for definition and finery in a shot but they also make you stop, slow down, and take time to set up for an awesome photograph. If you've got a di
Street Photography for Beginners: The Golden RuleStreet photography seems to be gaining popularity with each passing day. The difference is substantial from when I started just two years ago. Not only is street photography becoming more popular, but street photography is also becoming a lot more of an accepted mainstream form of photography, now being included in International Photography Festivals, gallery exhibits. As such, many more photographers are attempting to try their hand at it.Street Photography for Beginners: The Golden Rule3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Often though, as with many forms of photography, begininng street photographer become frustrated because their images just don't have the "pop" that they see in other street photographers work. Beginner street photographers can find this frustrating because they just don't understand why their images aren't working, it is just photographs of random people on the street right?
Unfortunately, this is one of the greatest misconceptions about street photography. There is so much more to a well exec

About the Contest:
Winners will be announced tonight! Thanks to everyone for taking part!
EDIT: Just in case I wasn't clear, what I meant was, if you do art, the picture has to tell a story. You don't have to write a story with it if the picture showed it (for example this one shows a story: http://everscript.deviantart.com/gallery/31842508#/d5l5xj3 You don't really know what's going on, but you know that Yuki and Kai are looking at something on Kerie's phone. It's telling a story.) Does that make is clearer to you guys? This contest is not only literature, it's also art. I'll actually prefer art submissions just because I think they'll be more fun to interpret, but that's up to you guys.
Deadline: Opens December 1st, 2012, and closes February 28th, 2013. Extensions will only be granted if more than three people ask for it.
Here are the rules:
PRE ORDERS!Wow, a lot of news for you guys all in one week! Yesterday I informed you all that apps for the iphone/ipad/ipod/android will be coming soon, and also asked for help on a new poster. Today it's about pre-orders for posters and the anthology!PRE ORDERS!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I mentioned this before, but all of us Fresh Epics artists got together and made a comic along a theme. So all of us, Humon, Stupid Fox, Romantically Apocalyptic, Acero Tiburon, and Boggart are all in the same book!
You can find more information here in my store http://syacartoonist.com/shop/anthology-book1 where you can also view sample pages. The book is going for $16.25 and should be ready around the beginning of May (I don't have an exact date yet, sorry).
We'll have the anthology for sale at the MCM Expo as well, so if you wanted to get one in person instead of ordering online, you'll be able to (and also will be able to get it signed by all of us!).
As many of you might remember, I've been working

No slo-mo running at the end! I want a crane shot in reg-mo! Makes it seem more frantic and desperate!
NO SEPIA and don't freeze the frame! What is this 1985?
And why wasn't Rory noticing all those angels I mean jesus christ they were right there and why did he even go in the building like sunnovabitch there's one RIGHT OUTSIDE and he's like YUP I'LL WANDER IN HERE.
And it was awesome because it's like Rose's goodbye only we don't get a round 2 (and 3 and 4) and I like that. BAM. ABRUPT TRAGEDY. SHAPOW. THAT'S ALL FOLKS. THE PONDS HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING.
I don't know what I was really expecting this week but I liked it. I cried. Something still isn't sitting quite right with me and I don't know why . I'll work it out later. Hm.
Steven's writing hasn't felt quite right since The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. Like he's too caught up on themes like marriage and catchphrases that he kinda over
Working With Minimal Detail, Closed! The contest is now closed; thanks to everyone for participating! In celebration of the rapidly approaching 2000 Member Milestone, PayPal-Commissioners will be holding a contest, as per the results of this poll.
Theme: "Working From Minimal Detail"
More often than we realize, artists are faced with "that one client" who either can not or will not provide you enough detail for you to confidently work. Most of the time, artists can really take these details and run with them, creating beautiful and meaningful works of art from a few simple, often generic, traits.
We realize that not every artist's area of expertise is in humanoids. We will provide three sets of details. One for animal forms, one for anthropomor
