these are my Sai brush settings, i used this to make this Bilbo Baggins by Yuuza painting, i used here mostly the brush tool and the water a little in the background :)

i usually keep everything at about 35% (sometimes i make the persistance a little higher) i only played with the size of the brush and pen pressure

i know of some artists who don't tell their brush settings and i find that so incredibly stupid :lmao:
:new:take note that these settings work for my Wacom bamboo pen tablet, and i've noticed that for my intuos these settings have a different effect (it makes the brush much sharper) and i have an old bamboo tablet where these settings make the brush fuzzy-er, so depending on your tablet, the brush might not be exactly the same! But there's a way to counter this, there's a setting for how soft/sharp the brush can be, look under the tools panel on the right side of "normal" drop-down, you'll see 4 brush heads you can use, from soft to hard edge, play with that setting to make your brush fuzzy-er or with sharper edges :iconmuahplz::new:

Not really a tutorial but a step by step with explanations. Sorry the explanations are for more advanced users, i just didn't have enough room to explain basic stuff as well. But if you have questions don't hesitate to ask :D

The original drawing is here Commission for Leinef by Yuuza

I get asked for tutorials a lot but I don't feel comfortable doing that so here's a compromise instead! =3=

Sorry my pics made for poor examples because they were already finished and I like to merge all my layers..

I'll shush now cause the thing's already so wall of text.

Feel free to ask questions if anything is unclear.

image of the ruffled dress from [link]

basically this is just to show how I draw ruffles -- I'm not really sure how to explain it... sorry ; u ; ))
I tend to BS them and somehow it kinda looks okay! XD

As an exercise, I used a photo in this one to show how a photo is great for practicing shapes of ruffles!
After practicing with a visual aid, you'll be able to imagine it more easily in your mind and no longer need refs. ;3

So the basic principle is to:
- determine where the folds come from
- determine the edge of the cloth
- then define the ruffles by drawing the edge of the folds
