A pool of silence
Into which words may fall
To both ripple out and dissolve
To touch the listener
To touch the parts other silences do not reach
Touching those not present
Through our experience of that touch
We enter the silent whole
Which contains everything.

Sitting on a lump of rock in the middle of a mine field was not her idea of fun. If the idiot who had sown this one was still alive. They were going to be very unhappy when she got out of here. Consoling herself with that thought she started to allow her senses to drift out across the minefield. Attempting to sense the changes in energy that would indicate a mine. It was not easy the disruptions were slight and seemed almost to be sliding from her grasp. She stopped drew three deep breaths then started again to sense the energy. There they were like little stars bright and clear. She put one foot to the ground the

The Prayer 2 The Prayer The PrayerThe Prayer 23 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
I prayed as through the night they passed over,
Those angles of death with their hiccupping drone
How I prayed as I sat and listened as they passed over
And tried, tried to make my mind blank to those who died instead of me.
Where they did not pass over
To those who in my prayers I had asked to die, instead of me
Whose only headstone was the rubble that had been their home.

Death came to town today, for all to see
And set up his stall in the market place.
And paraded his wares, for all to see.
Oh wouldnt you look fine sir when handling this,
The latest line in automatics, fires off a treat nothing faster.
Or, if thats not your style sir, how about a rocket launcher?
Theyre all on display as you can see.
Youd look great with your mates all kited out in the latest gear.
Just think of the glory sir of a mention in dispatches,
And a bright shiny medal, for all to see.
When your buried for all to see.
And think of the funeral sir, well see you of well

The Beach The beachThe Beach5 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
I walked upon the beach
Bathed in a cold gold light
The sea and the sky and the wetted sand
All intermingled in that light
As cold as the long wind
That moaned across that beach
The sand stinging my skin
Flaying it ripping to the bone
Polishing the bones till they shone gold in the light
With sapphires for my eyes
And blood red rubies for my teeth
My nails were jet
And on my ribs I played a tune
Carried before me by the long wind
As I walked upon the beach.

The end is neigh; I am doomed, done for.
All is revealed, I slurp my soup!
Oh the disgrace never to be asked again,
Beyond the pail.
Well no not quite, just slurping round the edges.
But then as Id tried to say,
Id only come to fix the plumbing.

The Ring"It must have belonged to someone very rich."The Ring4 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
"Maybe even a Queen!"
Two boys, barefoot and in tattered overalls stood in the middle of a dirt road, staring down at the ground. A ring glittered gaudily up at them, a big red stone set in a thick gold band with much smaller sparkly-white stones set all around it.
"Stupid. There aren't any Queens in America."
One dusty toe reached out to nudge the ring before jerking back.
"Dunno. Maybe it was a Princess instead."
The other boy seemed to accept this with a nod. "Maybe."
Quiet reigned over the pair, two heads bumping against each other, one orangey-red and the other dirty blonde.
It was a
