be yourself."I used to believe being an artist meant you had to fiercely guard your reputation. That you always had to put out a perfect 'bland' face. As a matter of fact, I believed that when I started this blog a few years ago.be yourself.10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I see differently now.
If you're a die-hard conservative, be that person. If you're a bleeding-heart liberal, be that person. If you're a gay fashion designer, be that person. If you're an animal rights activist, be that person. If you're a Christian mother of five, be that person. If you're a militant atheist, be that person. If you're a nerdy diesel truck driving woman who dislikes fairy dolls in a doll world dominated by fairy dolls (that's me!), be that too.
If you have opinions on things, it's okay. Express them! Your opinions are what make you you. And if you change your opinions, that's okay too. People can, and do, change.
Sure, being yourself may lose you some customers. But you

A few simple photography tipsThought Id share a few simple yet effective photography tips for the creative photographer.A few simple photography tips2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Macro done easy
Set your lens to its closest focusing range and move physically towards the subject until it is sharp.
If you are using longer lenses it really helps to lay down and hold the camera and lens almost like you are shooting a gun, and remember your breathing when shooting.
This is also a great technique for bokeh shots, with a 50 mm at its closest focusing range and background further away you will blow the background to bits.
Donīt be stationary
It is very easy to put down a tripod and just stand on the same spot shooting, instead try moving around a bi, experiment with angles, left, right, high, low until you hit that perfect angle for the scene.
Slow the shutter
You donīt always need a ND filter to block out light to get even slower shutter speed, you can either use this technique with your hand or better with a cardboard (black if you got colored one).
Ethereal FeatureFlowing, fragile, delicate and otherworldly. The kind of art that leaves me breathless and suspends time when I look at it. Wings, gusts of air, bones, crystals and blue skies. Silence within silence and whispered songs. Instead of just hoarding these jewels to myself, I'd like to share them with you.Ethereal Feature2 years ago in Personal More Like This

The Handy Resources JournalThis journal will be a collection of images, articles, and guides that I've found handy for drawing. I hope you find them useful, too.The Handy Resources Journal2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Please note that this journal is a work in progress. I will add to it when I can and edit where needed.
Jeff-H has created a series of excellent guides for human anatomy. I recommend studying them.
The best piece of artistic advice I've been given when proportioning a human figure is this: The thigh area (from hip [not waist] to knee) is approximately the same length as the torso (hip to shoulder). I see so many humans drawn too short or too tall without the torso to match.
See how short the legs are? http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs50/i/2009/327/a/8/Anime_body_tutorial_pg3_by_lene_x.jpg
Still don't believe me? Bring your knee up to your shoulder and try to keep your back as straight as possible. It should reach about to your collarbone.

THAT'S RIGHT YOU ARE A SHOE.
THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT NOT BEING A SHOE BECAUSE IN MY MIND YOU ARE ONE AND THAT IS MOST UNFORTUNATE.
AS LONG AS I HAVE YOU CONCEPTUALIZED AS A SHOE IN MY IMAGINATION YOU SHALL REMAIN AS SUCH.
THIS MAKES ME WONDER WHETHER ALL PEOPLES AND OBJECTS CAN BE CONCEPTUALIZED AS SHOES AND THUS BECOME SUCH, GRANTING ME ABSOLUTE POWER OVER THEM. DOES SNIPPY HAVE A CLEVER ARGUMENT? NO HE DOESN'T, HE'S A SHOE. SHOES CAN'T HAVE CLEVER ARGUMENTS.
I FEEL LIKE THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD HAS BEEN LIFTED OFF MY SHOULDERS NOW THAT EVERYTHING IS UNDER MY CONTROL, NOW THAT YOU ARE ALL SHOES. I NO LONGER HAVE TO ANSWER TO MY REGRETS AND PAST MISTAKES BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY SHOES.
I WAS EVEN ABLE TO PAINT PHOTOSHOP IN PURPLE COLOR (TO PLEASE CAPTAIN) AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN PUT UP A PROPER FIGHT BECAUSE I IMAGINED HER AS A SHOE.

I WOULD SHARE THE DOGMAS OF CAPTAINIA WITH ALL PEOPLES OF ALL COLORS, BUT MY ONLY CAPTIVE AUDIENCE IS SNIPPY AND EVEN WORSE, HE IS ONLY CAPTIVE BECAUSE I TIED HIM TO A COUCH WHILE HE SLEPT AND HE REFUSES TO BELIEVE IN CHURCH OF CAPTAIN BECAUSE HE CALLS HIMSELF "ATHEIST".
SUCH DIRTY WORDS HE SPEAKS. I COVERED KITTY-HAWK'S EARS. NOBODY SHOULD GROW UP TO BE LIKE SNIPPY.
JUST LOOK WHERE HE IS - TIED TO A COUCH AND YELLING OBSCENITIES.
SNIPPY SHOUTS THAT CAPTAIN IS "TROLLING YOU AND MAKING STUFF UP"
CAPTAIN LIVES NOT UNDER BRIDGES, I TELL SNIPPY.

There is a lot of it.
2013 is all ready [more than] half over. I don't know where the time has gone, but it's gone. Now, Nichrysalis had this fantastic idea about a "recap" of the significant news and events happening around the literature community and he kindly gave me his blessing to do something with this idea!
However, I know how much goes on during the year and one article might be a bit overwhelming [for me to do and for you to read] so I've decided to split it up into two six month segments. January to June and July to December.
Be prepared. :iconscaroutplz:
If you manage to make it through all of this I will let you ride on a unicorn or give you cupcakes. Or cupcakes while you ride the unicorn.

I decided to hold a contest to celebrate having 347 watchers! Ah I still remember not wanting to have an account on Deviantart, and now I'm so addicted I just can't stay away from the computer! Haha gosh I feel like some grandma talking about her first love or something!
Okay here's the info about the contest:
You'll have to draw one of my OCs, but to make it easier you can only pick one out of these three.
My very happy character. She loves everything's that bright and likes figure skating. Most of the time she's very optimistic, even though she might get quite annoyed around people she doesn't like. She wears most of the time Qi-Lolita or Wa-Lolita.
My mad vampire character. Setsuka is a bit more mature, but can get quite childish at times. She's pretty spoiled too and hates it if things don't go her way. Setsuka loves axes and doesn't hesitate if she has to kill people, in fact,

Adaptation Meets Adaptation
Les Misérables the musical movie introduced the story to thousands of new fans last December, but it's by no means the first adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel. Before, besides the world-famous musical, there have been countless other movies, plays, radio plays, anime, comics, even another musical, a fighting game and
Blender 2.7 XPS ToolsI rewrote the Xnalara/XPS importer-exported from scratch. Now it has better performance, unicode character support, binary and ascii import/export, pose import import/export and default pose support.Blender 2.7 XPS Tools7 months ago in Personal More Like This
First thing is the new XPS Toolshelf. It only appears in object mode and the available options depend on the current selected objects.
You can import from the file menu or use the toolshelf for quicker access. Also from the XPS toolshlef you can change the view mode to GLSL, Shadeless materials and reset to normal.
Importing to Blender
When importing Xnalara/XPS models bones that don't affect the mesh will be moved to the layer 2 of the armature.
Pose bones will be colored according to Bone Groups and affected meshes. To import a pose, just make selection that includes the armature and import the pose. The selection can include other objects (meshes, lamps, etc.) but the pose will be applied only to the first armature within the s
Secret to Success: Draw with your balls outHappy new ears my brothers and sisters. I hope you had a good break, but now its time to get back to work! Its actually not that complicated, you should just always Draw with your balls out.Secret to Success: Draw with your balls out2 years ago in Personal More Like This
A wise man by the name of John Rambo once told us that we should 'Stay ballsy'. We should not let our fear overtake us, we should dive head in into obstacles and fight the demons without fear and without worries. Well I have taken that approach and incorporated it into my drawing, believe it or not I have never been confident about my artworks, even if it is something I spent 24 hours on I still have doubt whether its good enough to show or not, especially when it is for work and I know I am being judged on.. thats why it always takes so long for me to finish an art piece because I keep looking at it and try to fix stuff that probably no one would ever notic

2014 Brushes + TumblrHey everyone!2014 Brushes + Tumblr11 months ago in Personal More Like This
So, many times people ask me about what brushes I use and what not... I have a link for my brushes on my profile but I don't use that set anymore, so I just wanted to share the brush-set I've been using lately with you
You can download it here:
BRUSHES, FUCK YEAH!
The last 5 brushes or so are the ones I use the most ( like 95% of the time ).
It is much simpler than my previous set as I'm trying to "free" my "workspace" as much as possible. It still has some brushes that are universally in everyone's brush-set nowadays, so honestly I'm not sure who to credit anymore since they've been around for so long, but they probably come from Jaime Jones, Leventep, Kekai, M@ etc...
Just remember that brushes are just another tool and won't make your work better or worse automatically. Just use the ones you like the most and stick with that
I have also recently made a tumblr account in which I sh

Long Exposure TutorialThis tutorial is for everyone who loves the magic of night photography, surreal effects, use of lights, and long exposures even at daylight! Or just for everyone who wants to try this section of photography. I used some of my own pictures as examples for the topics I am talking about. Every picture has the EXIF/camera data, so you can see how I took this photo!Long Exposure Tutorial4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Photography at night
The easiest way and also the cheapest to get long exposures is to take photos at night. The whole photography is a triangle: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fxbalKKB9mw/ScJbsMEPLLI/AAAAAAAAAlo/fV7m4syiOvw/s320/Exposure+Triangle.gif To get the right exposure, shutter speed, aperture and ISO are the main parts. If you have less light, open the aperture and ISO and shutter speed are constant. If you use a higher ISO you can keep your shutter speed and your aperture, and if you use a slower shutter speed (longer exposures) you can keep the ISO and the aperture! And this is what we need for night photography!

"To escape criticism - do nothing, say nothing, be nothing."
Everyone wants to be praised for their work. It's the extremely rare individual who creates things and doesn't care how they're received. Dealing with criticism can be painful, but at the same time enormously helpful.
Let's begin with understanding the function that positive and negative feedback serve. Positive feedback (pointing out things you did WELL) increases commitment to the work you do, by enhancing your experience and your confidence, white Negative feedback (pointing out things you did WRONG), on the other hand, is informative - it tells you where you need to spend your effort, and offers insight into how you might improve.
With that being said, positive and negative feedback are affective and motivate differently, their impact varies from different peop
What Did You Just Say???After drawing "The Artist" I realized how much I miss drawing. Summer is my slow season for commissions, I only have a few for June-August, so I decided to take on a bit of a side project. What Did You Just Say???2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm around small children 24 hours a day. Besides my own son, who is three, I have quite a few mini dance student, nieces, nephews, the list goes on. I find myself constantly saying things that I never in my life thought would come out of my mouth. "Stop riding the turtle or we're going home!", "no, pickles do not go there", and my person favorite from a friend "stop licking the cat and get his tail out of your nose!".
So, my idea is to start illustrating these WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!? moments. Maybe on day compile them into a children's book, who knows? I'd like to know what ridiculous things have you found yourself saying to the children in your life. What were the circumstances that made you say it?
I think we could get some really interesting picture
SNIPPY: BIOGRAPHICAL DATA 001ENTRY 9997:SNIPPY: BIOGRAPHICAL DATA 0013 years ago in Personal More Like This
To anyone who finds these memory cards,
and the messages left within...
My name is Charles Snippy. I am probably the last sane human being left on earth. I know not whether you will understand this message. I know not whether you'll even be able to decode the ones and zeros on these data cards. I know not whether my voice will even reach anyone.
I know not, whether the microscopic drives will last long enough and whether the plastic and metal which composes them will not disintegrate into dust as centuries pass or whether the titanium shell encasing them will remain in place or be consumed by the ever-changing landscape, lost forever.
And yet I still have hope that someone will find the story of my life, long past and learns something of use from it.
If you are still human, then this will be a story about the collapse of civilization of your forefathers through greed and arrogance.
If you are some other species entirely, then it is a story about how our human race was extin
