My childhood friend just won an Olympic Gold MedalWhen I was a child growing up in Russia, I trained to be a volleyball player 6 days per week year-round. Twice per day in the summer. Our coach, Alexander Sergeevich Shadinov, was a member of the USSR national team in the 80's. He is freaking awesome. My childhood friend just won an Olympic Gold Medal2 years ago in Personal More Like This
One of my friends, a few years younger than me, was always a tiny kid. I am average height, which is unacceptably short for a volleyball player. Alexey only ever reached to my shoulder height. He was always awesome skill-wise, if only a bit crazy in terms of character but always had lots of fun. I know that he came from a very poor family, but always had a great work ethic and never slacked. He was always the troublemaker, and often got flack for it from the coaches. Just a mischievous little kid full of energy.
Well, now he plays libero for Zenit Kazan which is one of the best volleyball clubs in the world. Being one of
Sean and I are engaged!Last weekend on February 1 2014 while in full rose ball gown, I surprised my photographer, collaborator, lover, and best friend Sean Parker with a marriage proposal. We are officially engaged after 7 years of commitment. It will probably be a couple more years before we get married, so we are in for a very long engagement.Sean and I are engaged!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I tricked Sean into thinking that he would be filming a dress clip for me while we were on the beach. Once the camera was rolling I asked him to join me on screen and I proposed to him. You can see the video of it here:
I also posted a lot of pictures in a post here: http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1x1dva/i_made_a_roseshaped_gown_for_a_photoshoot_and/
Sean and I have known that we wanted to get married for years. It was this last year and several months ago that he told me that he wanted me to surprise him with proposal. So I tucked that conversation away and started planning. He was completely surprised again wh
''DON'T SCRAP THAT!''Two of the best pieces of advice I ever got considering art and drawings came from the very same person: A graphic designer who often stopped by at the comicshop. We spent a lot of time chatting about techniques and most of my knowledge about fibonacci and golden ratio I have because of him.''DON'T SCRAP THAT!''4 months ago in Personal More Like This
As for the points of advice:
One was that I should just take my time with my drawings and paintings. If I don't have a deadline, there is no need to finish it within a fixed timeframe. And I can work on it as long as I want, till it's finished. Or till I get bored with it. And never finish it and start something new. It's not like I'm bound in any way, right?
The second tip was to never shy back from starting from scratch. Whatever the reason might be. Just because I have just spent hours on that one detailed bit does not mean that the final image will look great if I build it around my initial hours of work. It can. But it does not have to.
So, I often I scrap drafts, paint over a painting or s
30 Ways To Pimp Out Your Account - 3.2EDIT TIME! Please note that this is NOT some copy/paste shit that was sent to me which I then recopied into my journal. It is also NOT yours, and I'm getting real tired of people not only copying the entire thing word for word into their journal but then giving me NO credit for it (or taking credit for it themselves). If you want to link to it, fine, that's awesome. If you want to put it in your journal as well, that's also cool with me so long as you ASK first and give a link back to me as well.30 Ways To Pimp Out Your Account - 3.28 years ago in Personal More Like This
Also, I think it was made quite clear that this was primarily made in jest, but that seems to be flying over some peoples' heads, so I'm going to state this now: the following list was made to get laughs. LAUGHS. HAHA. See? That's a laugh. It's a reaction to something a person finds humorous. It is not meant to be taken seriously. Most people get that; this journal is like ten months old and I still get regular comments on it telling me how much they like it. However, to the few of you out

CONTEST IS OPEN"IN THE EMBRACE OF WINTER"CONTEST IS OPEN2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Each season brings a different experiences and emotions, different atmosphere, a different colour pallette.
Winter is a time for reflection and rest, a cycle of life-death-rebirth,
the inward journey, embracing darkness and silence.
Winter days are short, with long nights. The cold weather can make us sad and lethargic.
The season offers a sense of calmness and makes us feel peaceful.
The most romantic time of the year?
A snowy, frosty, cold world or rain and endless grey skies can be beautiful
but some people find that they become seasonally depressed as they receive less light in winter.
People feel tired and sluggish during winter. Too cold, gloomy, depressing?
Do you feel the winter blues or you enjoy the season?
Go back to your memories and keep your focus on your experience and emotions.
Show us your feelings about winter.
Show us your winter mood...now, in your past or childhood.
Surprise! Let's talk about Feedback Taboos!Hello, everyone!Surprise! Let's talk about Feedback Taboos!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Surprise, surprise! I'm PizzaPotatoNBacon, and I'm using this tasty article labeled as "Small Surprise #2" to cover an equally surprising topic. A topic so surprising yet so indulging, you'll have no idea why they let an insane person like me write it. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to "Feedback Taboos"!
"What are these so called 'Feedback Taboos?" you are asking.
Giving Feedback on amazing artworks that don't need improvement
Giving Feedback on an art form you're not familiar with
Giving Feedback on Articles And Tutorials
Why are they considered taboos? Because they may seem 1. too hard to do, 2. too far-fetched, or 3. just outright pointless. Sure, not doing these taboos does not seem like a big deal, but it is. They are all helpful in a whole, yet rarely done, if not done at all. Feedback, as long as it's constructive and helpful, is good, regardless of the submission it was made on.

About Artists on Writers
Writers will always find inspiration in the visions of artists, always feeling compelled to tell the stories behind the moments captured in artists’ unforgettable images,
Artists will always find inspiration in the words of writers, always feeling compelled to lend visual reality and habitat to the characters described in the scribe’s haunting words.
If the severely acne-scarred face and coarse exterior brought on by his alcoholic and depressed life was the book cover of his being, then Charles was the ultimate book that could not be judged by its cover. The exquisite collection that was this everyman artist’s art consisted of thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels—mostly all wrenchingly autobiographical, mos

To find out more about this educational series, check out the Artists Toolbox Schedule over at projecteducate.
The hardest part of any craft is getting the right tools. You've gotta learn the language of the trade, and that means getting yourself familiar with what's needed where. Culinary arts in particular can be so overwhelming. Most sugar craft books will tell you you need a long list of expensive equipment they'll use to make one type of adornment never to be used again. This can suck a lot of beginners in to spending a fortune on equipment that's not essential. And cake decorating equipment is exorbitantly expensive. I can go buy some lustre dust and a couple of cutters required for one type of flower and kiss $100 goodbye, so knowing when to spend and when not to spend can save you a lot of pain.
I've been building up my
