You don't know it, but your pet is actually a...One day, Phillip Buster had an idea. Not many people lived on the Earth yet, and his tribe relied on hunting and gathering to survive. Wolves were good at hunting, he mused. Wouldn't it be interesting to have them work for him?You don't know it, but your pet is actually a...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
He managed to get some wolves into possession and carefully put them together to have cubs. Neither Jeans nor genes were known at his time, but Phillip did know that children looked different from their parents and also exhibited different personalities. Maybe the wolves would eventually have an offspring that his tribe could use.
Genes are the blueprints of a being, how it is shaped, how it grows and in many ways even how it behaves. But these blueprints don't copy perfectly. There are small alterations, changes, and so a new animal would always be slightly different from the animals that came before. Perhaps it would have the tendency to be more playful, or it may be better at sniffing, or it may be friendlier towards other beings, such as Phillip himself.
A Queen, Made LonelyI sit in my hollow, lonelier and more forsaken than ever.A Queen, Made Lonely3 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
I glance every so often at the shadowy expanse of the night sky, just to ease the monotony of staring at the lightly-patterned walls.
A single tawny feather, medium-sized and healthy, lies in my nest. Reclined on the floor in front of my sooty talons is an exquisite grass harp, yearning to be played.
But right now, I have not the heart to operate the instrument.
I know we all must depart this world someday, but the passing of a cherished owl is impossible to prepare for, to come to terms with. I myself can testify to the anguish of experiencing such a loss, because my mate is gone.
My brave Soren isn't here with me anymore.
His spirit embarked upon a one-way trip to Glaumora only yesterday, and the wound upon my own is still unbearably painful. His death was as peaceful as he could have hoped, as all of his family and friends were surrounding him.
I was cradling him in my wings as he slipped away, his life force vanishing&
dA Mention and plz iconsHi!dA Mention and plz icons1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm sure most of you have known the Mention feature introduced by dA recently (if you don't know about it you can read it here: http://wreckling.deviantart.com/journal/Deviant-and-Art-Mentions-403346447 )
Because I didn't read the article thoroughly, I initially thought that the Mention will work only if somebody uses the @ symbol in front of a username. But then it's occurred to me that it will work if you're using :dev[insertusernamehere]: or the icon of the user.
So as a person who uses A HELL LOAD of plz icons and also the owner of the account :iconpervyerenplz:, I find it quite amusing and funny when I logged in to that plz account hahahahahaa :iconmingteatimeplz:
Because you know the people who're using the plz icons aren't really intending to mention the users or anything but the users (plz accounts) still receive notifications that they've been mentioned
I know that's what plz icons are for but still I can't help feeling funny as I thought about how many
General terminolgy used in Ga'Hoole stories.Hello!General terminolgy used in Ga'Hoole stories.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My name is Hafang...that's not my real name, of course, but it is a true name for me in a someways.
I am a writer, in essence, and my work has been restricted, so far, with "Legend of the Guardians, The Owls of Ga'Hoole"
I realize that in every realm, there are different words that are used some times and so, for my dear reader to understand my stories, I have made this small gathering of the generally-used words that might seem odd:
n. Northern and Southern Lights
n. powerful metal talons that can slip over those of owls
n. a special bag for carrying.
v. the first step toward flight, in which owlets in trees hop from branch to branch while flapping their wings
n. a small group of owls with a special set of skills
v. owl way of laughing
n. a carrier of coals
n. creeps; heebie-jeebies
v. (of the moon) to wane; to appear to grow smaller in the sky
