Art is more than skill, style, and expressionI've been closely analyzing professional illustrators' and contemporary artists' works and I often see them intentionally ignoring the mechanics of reality, sometimes outright doing the opposite. Allowing light to subtly pass through an opaque wall as if it is transparent creates a jarring surreal effect and otherworldly feeling that challenges the senses. It's also interesting seeing rendering that gradually transitions from realistic into a fantastical subjective interpretation of the subject. Some artists are profoundly complicated in their decisions such as switching the colour gradients caused by subsurface scattering to their own choices. They are clearly knowledgeable in properties of light and materials yet are consistent and logical in the ways they subvert them.
