I am standingIt's been months since I wanted to break out of my body. Okay, that's a lie. But it's been days. Days since I've felt static scorch underneath my skin, felt colours cutting into my eyes, had to explain that these aren't metaphors. There are so many ways you can get used to living. When I wear a sheet, Mycroft steps on it with his feet.

The invisible beastly faces,
That leer, unknowable, in the night.
He who said that the greatest sensation
Was that screaming terror that surrounds
Humans in the coal-black places
As they know they have no control over creation.
And while the good lie asleep in bed,
The sorcerers who were hidden escape,
Praising Gods beyond the souls capability,
To understand, as to be saved is to be lead.
While those who froth in madness scream,
Of things that were beyond their understanding,
Their dead eyes glaring back the reflections of eternity
And they know that nothing is as it should seem.
And from this blinding, choking bleakness,
One should find the reason to hope,
But no, all that is left is things beyond things,
Manipulating human stupidity and weakness.
As here a little child I stand,
On the edge of something so horrifically vast
That no man or woman can glare into it and return,
With soul intact from that dark land.
Incantations and Deductions Chapter TwelveThe expression of shocked surprise on Sherlock's face would almost be comical if John felt anything like laughing. Someone died after jumping from John's window: of course Sherlock would want to check out the room. "John." Sherlock begins and then seems to just stop.
John rolls his eyes. "It's alright, I know why you're here, I'm not going to bother you, just wanted to make sure you didn't do any weird experiments on my stuff."
Sherlock just nods, seemingly nervous. He doesn't move; it's as if his feet are rooted to the rug he's standing on.
"Aren't you going to get on with it, then?" John asks. He knows his tone is blunt, and if he's honest, verging on rude, but he's not the one who has just broken into someone else's room. It seems especially egregious after nine months of no contact between the two of them.
"Well, I-" Sherlock starts again and then breaks off his eyes darting up

John stared down at the Earth below. He'd never really appreciated it from a distance, but he'd been rather busy the last time he'd been at Earth and hadn't really had the time to look. It was beautiful when he looked at it. His home was gone, Reach nothing more than a ball of glassed land. Now this was the closest thing to home that he had. At least this was the planet he could call home. He didn't think of Earth though when he thought of home. He didn't think of a planet at all.
John heard boots on the observation deck behind him and he willed the person to leave him alone. He remembered Lasky from long ago, and understood that soldiers sometimes seemed to get attached to him as the leader of the Spartans, or the Spartan that destroyed a Halo, but he really didn't want to play the famous

He'd lost count of how many times he'd dreamt of the white wolf. After three months and well over five-hundred dollars wasted on fake psychics and palm-readers, he was still no closer to finding out what it meant. He sighed deeply and covered his face with his hands.

Letting out a groan, he fell back to the pillows. He'd have to get up for work at the diner soon.
It was a dead-end job and everyone there -- even his boss -- was afraid of him, but the meager paychecks kept the landlord off his back. That was the only reason he kept showing up.

Kelly looked to the man sitting on his cot across from her. He'd stopped sharpening his knife several minutes ago and was now just staring at it. She wasn't sure what was wrong with it but he seemed to be examining it, looking for any flaw. Kelly glanced around the room and saw only Grace sitting over with Anton, talking to each other. She opened a private COMM with John, double checking that it was private to be sure no one overheard them. "You know staring at that thing isn't going to make it any sharper." She made her tone light, hoping that she could ease whatever was bothering him with a bit of humor.
John looked up to her, but he didn't say anything. Kelly could feel his gaze, heavy on her, examining her like he had the knife. He slid the blade back into its place in his armor.
