Clarifying an Issue with Stock ResourcesThere appears to be a fair amount of misunderstanding on the subject of stock resources so what I would like to do today is attempt to clarify several issues which are of importance to the artists who generously provide stock resources to the public for use and hopefully dispel the confusion and misinformation which is beginning to circulate.Clarifying an Issue with Stock Resources1 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The first issue at hand is in regards to your personal stock terms
Your Personal Stock Terms
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
We only ask a few things from you in return;
ProjectPorkchop Vol276 (Halloween Edition)ProjectPorkchop is all about bringing more exposure to the many talented yet under appreciated artists going unseen on deviantART daily. The artists chosen truly deserve more attention based on low counts of favorites, comments, and watchers, added to their incredible artistic talent.ProjectPorkchop Vol276 (Halloween Edition)1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

It seems I'm lost. I can't seem to find the Forest in the trees. With such a bright light extinguished, it seems that the world is a much more dull place to be. The pointless call to "Please come back" echoes in the chasm that cannot summon back such a beautiful soul from the expansion that they were destined to become. DeviantArt won't be the same without you, and it seems that the world has been overcome with an overwhelming emptiness for those of us who had the privilege of basking in your radiance while you were here.
The beautiful, unique, inspiring creations reflect their creator, and will live on eternally as a constant reminder for generations to come of the spark that burned so brightly, and left such an impact on so many.

Johnlock: A Dad's Guide to ShippingIf, when you hear the name Johnlock, you think of the 17th century poltical philosopher, John Locke, then keep reading. This guide is for you.Johnlock: A Dad's Guide to Shipping2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
My daughter, who is a freshman in high school, informs me that Johnlock is not, as I had presumed, the "Father of Classical Liberalism", but rather the "Father of All Gay Ships". In fact, it is a "gateway ship" for all sorts of "slash" couples. Confused? I was too. Like I said, keep reading.
Johnlock is John Watson and Sherlock Holmes, paired as a gay couple. More specifically, it is Martin Freeman/Benedict Cumberbatch (hence the term "slash"), in their roles as John and Sherlock, living in a fanfiction story arc (a sort of alternate universe) and being in a romantic relationship (hence the term "ship'") with each other. This is a VERY popular concept among young people (I can pretty much guaranty that my mother NEVER shipped Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce). Fangirls (and fanboys, to a certain extent), who are devoted to the BBC series Sherlock,
Ben WolstenholmeTwice I have seen this, in maybe 30 years - somebody improving at such speed it belies belief.Ben Wolstenholme2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The first time was Chris Weston, a year my junior. I landed a job as assistant to the late and very great Don Lawrence when I was 17, just edging out Chris. A year later Chris replaced me, and a year after that he was working for 2000ad. Today he's one of the finest comic strip artists in the business, as well as the best storyboard artist I have ever seen.
The second time was Ben Wolstenholme.
Don't get me wrong, Ben already had chops. He is an incredibly talented guy - and way too good looking for my liking too. He formed Moving Brands (a progressive, distinguished and award-winning branding agency) right out of college. He and I were both art scholars at the same school - he seven years my junior and following in my footsteps. He used to come round for drawing tips, and I'd draw him a Batman, or Judge Dredd, then get rid of him with a ruffle of the hair and head off down the pub.

Xmas FeatureMERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!Xmas Feature1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For this Christmas holidays I wanted to do something special for all the people who appears in my watchers list, all of you are the reason why I keep coming back to DA, and for you I try to improve my artworks. Thank you!
So I decided to make another special Journal of features, even if some of you never write me a comment, Im happy just for having you on my list.
A clarifying note; unfortunately I can´t put everyone here, mostly because some watchers have changed accounts and they don´t use the old ones anymore, others are deactivated or simply have not been here in a looooong time (a year or more) and most likely they will not return.
Anyway, There are some of the artworks that I picked up, sorry I couldn't search your galleries more deeply more than the surface pages, this was something slow and I have little time.
First of all :iconTehChessie: ; She was kind eno
New Username SymbolsAs part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.New Username Symbols1 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
At a glance, the new symbols are quickly recognizable. When hovering over a username symbol, a tooltip appears, providing a brief explanation of that user's deviant-type. If clicked, a modal appears, giving a brief explanation for each username symbol, with "Learn more" links that lead to more detailed explanations.
A word from Heidi:
Over the years, a few things have come to seem like deviantART mainstays. Deviant green, intricate art categorization, colorful avatars, symbols next to usernames. In our constant re-evaluation of what's best for longtime deviants and new users alike, we do sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves if a makeover for some aspect isn't overdue. Changing username symbols was one of the harder things we evaluated.
I've been testin

Art, Math, and Computers: Primary ColorsA series of occasional articles on the intersection of art, math, and computersArt, Math, and Computers: Primary Colors2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Everything you know is wrong.
That's the title of an old Firesign Theater album, and I think of it often as I watch my kids progress through high school. Maybe it should read, "Many of the things you are taught have been dumbed down because teachers didn't think you could handle them." Whether it's glossing over quantum physics when teaching the nature of the atom, or stating that Socrates killed himself, because getting into the whole trial thing is too complicated, examples abound.
Anyway...most people, when asked to name the primary colors, would respond "red, yellow, and blue", and, when asked to define what a primary color is, would respond with something like, "they are the colors which can be used to make all other colors". That's what many of us were taught in school at a young age, but it's only partially true. People involved in printing know that the truest pri

A New Wind Lifts Storytelling
First imagined as a bedtime tale for his son by Kenneth Grahame in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has remained in the top twenty children’s stories ever since. But things have been getting weird out in the Willows, as the new comic on deviantART, Weirding Willows, will attest to.
Badger, Mole, Ratty and Mr. Toad are back… but they’re joined by Alice, Frankenstein’s Monster, Mowgli, The White Rabbit, Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny as they defend the world from the Wicked Witch of the West, Doctor Moreau, the Mad Hatter, Mister Hyde and the Queen of Hearts (not to mention the flying nightmare monkeys from Wizard of Oz.)

A Romanian causeMany of you probable haven't heard about the struggle of Romanian activists against a gold mining operation that defies all civic, environmental and national interests of my country. Romania is not such a hot subject like Syria and much of the Romanian mass media, part of it controlled by politicians, is not making efforts to educate and show this struggle. Rosia Montana is an area of great beauty and history and the old dacian and roman exploitation are visible and incredible well kept to this day.A Romanian cause1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The exploitation of that area by Gabriel Resources Ltd is highly debated as being a huge danger for the environment because their project involved huge quantities of cyanide to help with the gold extraction. This project has been in stand by for many years and now the recent government has decided to create a law that will allow such damaging extraction. Even more, they create the same l

The Slender Man
In this season of deceits deceptions & witcheries
I am wary of my following message not being received with the full gravity it deserves. It is not my intention to unduly alarm the deviantART community, but... LaurenKitsune is at this time unaccounted for. All attempts on our part to contact her have failed. It is my hope that she has simply taken a much deserved unscheduled pre-Halloween “vacation” and will be back in online communication soon.
Before going dark, LaurenKitsune was good enough to write and transmit a report on the Slender Man phenomenon sweeping the Internet. That report is published here fo
Murder at the Castle! Let the investigation begin!Last night, Cinderella was to host the greatest ball in all the land in honour of her Husband, Prince Charming. It had been months of hard work; every servant and helper furiously putting together the finest of touches to ensure everything was perfect. Invitations had been sent out to exclusive friends and acquaintances alike, reaching the farthest parts of fairyland. It was to be the event of the century.Murder at the Castle! Let the investigation begin!1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
There was no denying, Cinderella had become highly stressed of late. Organising such a fabulous ball had taken its toll, especially when perfection was her objective. Her inner control freak had taken over and she no longer cared who she upset or angered as long as the ball was exact. Friends were no longer happy with her, she wouldn't keep promises- let alone attend unnecessary events such as Alice's weekly tea party. In fact, even her own husband, who all this was for, had not been in her mind.
The Ball was lavish; champagne fountains, golden swans, shimmery streamers, a stylish d&

IT'S 2013! THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE!
Hrm hrm. So. Now the the shout of excitement is done, I can tell you that it is the morning of January 1st, 2013. And I still cannot get my mind around the idea that it is the Year of the Snake. I am excited, and yet not.
Why? Cause I am a 1989 girl, which was two Snake years ago.
Hell, I am really trying to get the max out of this year. After all, if it is over, it will take another 12 years until the next Snake year arrives.
So, let's shed our old skins and grow ourselves wings. (duh, that rhyme n.n") Let's do our best to grow stronger in body and mind and reach our dreams. I hope that your plans this year come to great fruition.
ALL THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! KEEP GOING!

orld War I (1914-1918) was a human catastrophe
that devastated Western civilization and mocked the hope inherent in “modernism”. The sheer volume of the war’s slaughter was beyond belief. The horror of it all destroyed the trust in science, medicine and technology as the golden gateway to a harmonious and peaceful future for humanity. All that was thought to be good had been twisted to the evil purpose of a global war. A global sense of hopefulness was replaced with a global sense of fear and loathing.
