TUL AG: Fleur-de-lis Part 1And so things went for the next couple of years. Iris was still dating other folks, looking for the right guy. Meanwhile I was still looking for the right girl. But every so often she'd call me and ask for some time together. I was always happy to oblige, of course, and we'd usually have a lunch or dinner together and talk about various things in our lives, or whatever ended up coming to mind.TUL AG: Fleur-de-lis Part 13 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
As time went on though, it seemed our little reunions were becoming more frequent, and the time we spent together grew from brief lunches to full-day affairs. I'm not sure it was so obvious to either of us, but there was a definite bond between us that just kept getting stronger. And strangely, it took a while for us to think that there was something behind it. I mean, we were certainly close friends, but we weren't really considering it a relationship.
That is, of course, until I stayed up one night and thought about things.
We saw each other so often, enjoying each other's company and talking a

Just when my new friend Joseph and I were enjoying an admittedly spontaneous night out, these two idiots decided to show up and start trouble. Granted, it wasn't something I wasn't used to...I've seen this kind of thing happen in the past. It just never happened to me specifically.
I thought I was able to deal with the situation. I thought I had a well-thought-out plan. I quickly dashed out of the two muggers' sights and waited in a part of the park where there were lots of trees and bushes. I wanted to wait for the perfect moment to jump out and give 'em hell. After all, they should've know better than to harass innocent people. I wanted them to know that kind of nonsense was not gonna be tolerated, and I wanted that lesson to be one they'd remember.
And then they shot him.
Poor Joe just wasn't able to take their foolishness. Rather than complying to the
TUL AG: Fleur-de-lis Part 3I wasn't sure what time it was when I began to wake up. It was still the middle of the night, as I could see the moon and stars above me...though a bit blurry. I was still a little drowsy...TUL AG: Fleur-de-lis Part 33 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
I shook my head to regain my senses and then looked around...I was sitting on that same park bench.
That couldn't have all been a dream...could it?
Quickly I felt my neck, looking for any sort of bitten imprints...some sign that whatever Iris had done to me actually happened.
But I felt nothing. I didn't even feel any pain.
I couldn't help but sigh. Looking towards the fountain, I decided to see if there were at least any visible traces in my reflection, even if things were gonna look distorted in the water. I walked over to check...and what I saw baffled me.
I didn't immediately see any sign of a bite, but in general I looked...different. And in a way that a distorted reflection couldn't pull off on its own.
I quickly looked around to find some other, clearer reflective surface, but then I suddenl
TUL AG: Fleur-de-lis Part 2It was only a few minutes to midnight. I was sitting near the fountain in Hyde Park, almost as I did when I first met Iris. I didn't have any bread for the ducks that night, but they weren't on my mind this time around. Naturally, it was on Iris...on what she meant by "proving myself." Was I gonna have to fight someone? ...Was I gonna have to fight her?TUL AG: Fleur-de-lis Part 23 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
I was anxious in so many different ways, and as nervous as I was beginning to feel, I wanted time to speed up just to get it all started. I wanted to prove to Iris that I wanted her love...her companionship...more than anything.
I didn't have to wait long. I could hear chimes ringing through the park. Midnight had arrived.
I looked around to see if Iris was nearby. But I saw no sign of anyone but myself. I wondered if Iris was late, or forgot...or if she planned this abandonment to discourage me. But I shook off the negative possibilities...it wasn't even a minute after yet. My anxiety was getting the better of me. I decided to look at
