Digital Art Newsletter - NovemberHello.Digital Art Newsletter - November6 months ago in Digital Art More Like This
As usual, here are the current going on in the community regarding Digital Art. I want to remind you all that if you have any activity, contest, series of articles, chat events, etc. anything you want me to promote here, don't hesitate to tell me!
There is no volunteer for 3D Art!? What do we do now?
First than anything, let's give a warm farewell to the volunteers who have stepped down from the team recently: `ditto9, `DpressedSoul, `DemonMathiel, `StamatisGR and `WillowXD
As you can see, one of them is `WillowXD who until recently, took care of the Game Development Art and Digital Art > 3D, meaning we don't currently have somebody taking care of 3D Art. Who do you send your 3D suggestions to then? For the time being, please address your suggestions to $Moonbeam13 in the meantime a new volunteer is selected.
Talking about which, if you feel you are up for the position, go and apply! -> http://communityrelati

PE: Introduction to the Digital Art categoriesHi! Welcome to the Digital Art categories central! The following article is intended to be a quick guide on the Digital Art categories to get you started, most of the descriptions included here came from past Project Educate articles (so thanks for all the current and past CVs for their indirect help :P) and will include links to more articles if you want a more deep insight of said category, as well as a list of CVs you can send your DD suggestions to. (As of December 2012, for the updated list of current volunteers you can always check this blog)PE: Introduction to the Digital Art categories6 months ago in Digital Art More Like This
But first, what is considered DIGITAL Art?
Digital Art includes every artwork created with the use and/or help of digital software and tools. Said in simple words: art you create with a computer (or other devic

PE: Digital Art VS other categoriesThe category system within deviantArt has the purpose to organize the thousands of artworks submitted every day and group them together in accordance to style, media, genre and/or theme, etc. Imagine deviantArt without categories, it would be a chaos! Imagine yourself wanting to browse for photography only; without the system organizing every deviation by media, you would find yourself unable to filter artworks that aren't photography in your search results.PE: Digital Art VS other categories5 months ago in Digital Art More Like This
Thus the importance of categorizing your artwork correctly. By submitting your work to the appropiate category combined with a correct use of keywords, you're a step ahead of being discovered by people wanting to search for art like yours.
All this sounds so nice and all, but what happens when a particular piece could fit in several categories? The category system as it is now is very specialized and has literally thousands of different subcategories buried down tons of more subcategories, which is both a blessing and a curse. Havi
Up and Coming IIThere is an abundance of talent here on deviantART, and I love browsing our fashion photography galleries for emerging artists, at the forefront of the next wave of new talent.Up and Coming II6 months ago in Art Features More Like This
There are always people who catch my eye, and I collect their names and keep an eye on them, because watching people make the most of their talent and fulfill their potential is a wonderful experience. I'm going to share some of the fresh talent I'm currently admiring and amazed by, so that when they're out shooting big campaigns and stories across the world, we can say I told you they were special!"
So have a look at these wonderful artists, this feature is the first in the series, check out the previous one here.

There's something new in town...For a long while now, I've been itching to create a group that encompasses the whole of the People & Portraits Photography Gallery. After chatting it through with ^3wyl today, we decided to launch one - and so #PeopleAndPortraits was born! It's for every single sub-gallery of People and Portraits Photography. Every single one. You'll find a folder for every one of them and you'll find that you can submit not one but TWO works a week to each one. The original Sketchmatch actually was originated on Twitter by idea of ~eL-HiNO, ~toonfed and ~Tebin-Art and later transfered to deviantArt via dAmn
The rules and way to participate has changed slightly since then but the main rules remain the same; the idea is to create a quick jam, a group of deviations with a theme which is set at the moment by the people currently participating.
The catch is that you only get 10 minutes to do your entry!
Here are a couple of examples:![]()
Yes! Each one of these was created in just 10 minutes!
So how will this work?
We gather over :#communityrelations: The theme will be set at the moment by the participants currently in there. The theme could be literally anything; french maids, steampunk ponies, how would you look if you were a superhero, the most craz

The other week, a piece of my writing was selected for a Daily Literature Deviation. If you're curious you can see the article here. I was humbled by that, but my reason for mentioning it in Photography Bi-weekly is that *0hgravity then highlighted a website to me that I found absolutely fascinating. It's soul purpose is to highlight Endangered Languages through Photography. 3170 lens are capturing the people who hold the key to the worlds most secret languages. Once again something like this highlights the complete and utter importance of Photography and reminds us of how far we've come, and how much we can do from mobile ph

I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

Fix that miscat! ~ Artisan Crafts V. Still Life Fix that miscat! is the first of a series of articles which aims to help you distinguish between galleries that are commonly confused or abused in the category system here on deviantART. Submitting to the correct categories here can make a huge difference to exposure and feedback for your work as well as features within the Daily Deviations so we want to give you the best chances possible! Let's get started with Artisan Crafts Versus Still Life Photography!Fix that miscat! ~ Artisan Crafts V. Still Life5 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
Artisan Crafts (Culinary) & Still Life Photography
DeviantART is a hive of activity with work from all sorts of genres and areas being shared and submitted on a daily basis. So it's only natural that sometimes, confusion happens. And there are a few pesky categories that are difficult to define and differentiate between. We've recently found that Photography -> Still Life and Artisan Crafts are a great example of this.

Famous Photographs: The Afghan GirlIf you run a google search on what are the top famous Photographs of all time, The Afghan Girl is sure to appear. She is truly a face from History and one that many across the globe have tried to capture within others time and time again. But what exactly has made this image and its photographer so captivating?Famous Photographs: The Afghan Girl5 months ago in Photography More Like This
Source: Daily Mail/National Geographic/Steve McCurry
Eyes, they say, are the window to the soul. And capturing such a piercing and expressive look in a photograph is a highly sought after skill. The Afghan Girl exhibits suspense, suspicion and a sense of distrust at the person behind the lens, she gives off an air of maturity, a foreboding feeling - a vulnerability behind years of strength. That, is what makes her so captivating.
Sharbat Gula is her name, although few even know this rather important detail. Sh

"Study for the Libyan Sibyl" by Michelangelo
The human form in all its odd, beautiful, exotic, strangeness has been for many artists their Achilles heel. Without references to guide our hand, to delight the eye and inspire the imagination - artwork would remain as cave paintings warning people not to enter in case of bears.
"Vitruve Luc Viatour" by Da Vinci
“There are three classes of people: those who see. Those who see when they are shown. Those who do not see.”
Leonardo Da Vinci
Each artist depicts what they see in their own unique way. Some try to emulate and some forge their own path, but no matter how you are inspired or what media you use to create your work - remember the lessons of other painters who came before.
