My Best Friend, My Love: A Poem
Who better to have my heart
than the one who knows me best?
We both have had romances and flings
but you are better than all the rest.
This love was the forbidden fruit
but we bit into it like Adam & Eve.
But now we're like Eros & Psyche.
From us, Eden has been conceived.
Funny how when we were kids,
we avoided each other's kiss.
Now every touch from your lips
gives me moments of sweet bliss.
We've shared our minds and souls before
now we include the form.
Our trinities complete, together entwined
the burning fire within keeps us warm
I know we will have downs and spats.
We may split and have many falls.
But like magnets, we will come right back.
Our force will break many walls.
My best friend, my love
We are the Lover and the Beloved.
What we have is an eternal divine gift
blessed by Heaven above.

you’re a million miles away.
And as much as you love her,
you know you cannot stay.
Did you stop talking to me
to fall out of love?
Or am I just crazy?
I can’t think of the East,
because I know that’s where you’ll stay.
I miss you,
though we’ve never met face to face.
I can’t help but think of that time,
long, long ago,
when I said I’d never let you go.
I breathe you,
and you know it.
You have control over me,
and you never show it.
Do you care anymore?

Wishing to be set free from madness
My eyes pour forth rivers of sorrow
Unsure if I want to see tomorrow
I sit down at a broken desk
Filled with lies and past regrets
I take up my pen and begin to write
I scratch the paper far into the night
I cope with my sadness with a powerful pen
Writing my grievance, my lies and my sins
And when my fingers bleed, the sadness subsides
And the pen is rested until sorrow gives rise

"Oh dear," ― a ripping sound ―
"Poor thing's seen too many plays."
Pull him this'a way
― An' that'a way ―
And back again,
Until his time's done.
Suddenly, up goes his head ―
But without a tug of the thread.
He whispers, nigh-silently, his plight,
defiantly: "What gives you the right?"
He wraps loose string about his arms,
Pulls, and his master he disarms.
Indignantly: "You'll curse the day
That you denied us any say
As to the workings of these foul plays."
Breaking the strings that bind him;
He's breaking the rules,
― And all reservation inside him.
"We're tired of being taken for fools!"
The puppet turns, and speaks to me:
Throw off the chains of oppression;
It's as easy as breaking the strings!
Forget profit, that capitalist obsession
And the puppets will, with you, sing
"No more gods,
No more masters!
No more slaves,
Nor economic disasters."

Water flows over them perpetually
But it is time that erodes.
Mountains, proud and powerful
Slowly fade from prominence
Rain and wind assaulting them
But it is time which forces them to submit.
Life, brief and energetic
Exhausts itself in a blink
Bones slowly calcifying,
It is time that preserves them.
War, violent and horrid
Infects the world with hate
But the bullets stop being fired
And time brings peace.
Injustice, blatant and atrocious
Plagues all great civilizations
But all debts are paid in full
As time brings death to empires.
Heartbreak, vividly painful
Agonizes the souls of the lonely
But the heart's woes pass
And time heals all wounds.

Infinitely various and complex

Cochineal and Beetle WingsI don’t love youCochineal and Beetle Wings10 months ago in Free Verse More Like This
I was going to lead up to this. Maybe claim
there was something caught in my throat
about beetle wings, cochineal – you know,
they make that stuff out of flight. Lipstick, I mean.
I mean the truth is
I can only smile like an inferno because
something else isn’t going to be flying away.
And I was going to say I’m sorry but I’m not.
I was going to lie to you like you needed me to,
but pray tell me how to grace through three weeks I hoped
for some kind(ness) of hurricane, so we could recalculate
in the aftermath, and nobody would blame me then for judging
that we came up empty. I mean, I was going
to lie. It tripped off my tongue. I shouldn’t have
let it. I’m too weak sometimes. Couldn’t brace a hollow hulk
of sentence on my shoulders without crumbling, and
all the time you caught me when I wanted to fall
I was struggling to say:
I don’t love you anymore.
And I should end this poem but I c

You were wrong

so you can see you as i see
your heart was crushed by an image
built by a cruel society
I wish my eyes were a mirror
So that i may help you to believe
that what they say is lies
and show you how you are to me
I wish my Heart could speak clearer
to help you understand
that you are the only person
that can fill my empty hands
I wish i could be your savior
Wipe away your fresh tears
i would gently say i love you
as i hold you through the years
And i wish my soul was a healer
to undo all of the pain
Make all their hostile efforts
finally end in vain
But to you im just a stranger
or "Just friends at best"
because you fear that i will hurt you
just like all the rest
So i wish my eyes were a mirror
So you can see you as i see
And ill continue to count the days
until you become one with me.
The Lions' Den - II have no wish to chronicle the events of that first year. Much of it I spent sunk in a mindless and fluid dreamlike state, aware of but unable to control my actions. I passed, drifted, from town to town through the country, killing by night while by day I haunted the crossroads and squares like a vagrant. In some places, the people pitied me, and I slept warm for an hour or two before some peasant's fire until my fragmented mind again drove me into the cold, or my altered flesh again drove me to kill. Never did I cease to move across the landscape, always fleeing the grief and horror that sprung up in my wake. Never did I speak to a soul, though many times I tried to warn away some poor creature who strayed too close to my madness. I shall not describe the act of murder, the effect it had upon myself and upon my unfortunate victims, nor the atrocity with which I often compounded the crime, but think of this: in such an exchange, the demon and his host become more wholly one than any mThe Lions' Den - I2 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This

Don’t know why I even try.
You were never the type who liked
To listen to what was on my mind,
But I’ll just keep talking anyway.
Maybe this time I’ll get through.
Here’s the thing:
I want to be the reason why
You can’t sleep at night,
Or the reason you don’t eat.
I want you to feel that twist
In your stomach when you see
Something that reminds you of me.
I want you to know the
Feeling of a heart that has been torn.
It beats in your chest, but it still isn't
Enough to convince you that you’re alive.
I want you to feel emptiness every
Time you realize that I’m not there,
And that it is because of you.
Believe me when I say I don’t
Miss you, and that I never could have
Possibly been in love with you.
I want you to see what you've done,
And actually mean it when you say you’re sorry.
I want so many things that will never happen
All because you were better than I was.

Who am I kidding,
It's not gonna turn out.
I mean, what was I thinking?
My idiocy makes me want to shout.
I want to make things like they were,
But now I see that will never happen.
Of his choice, he is so sure.
And my thoughts now flattened.
I still wish I could go back,
Maybe change how it all went down.
Now the past is colored in shades of grey and black,
I must forget, bury everything deep inside the ground.
I'm only hurting myself
By thinking I could make things right.
But this is all just damaging to oneself,
Because nothing can change it, try as I might.
Let's be honest here,
You have moved on to bigger and better things.
Despite all my fear,
I just have to go with what life brings.
It's time to face the fact,
Nothing I say or do will change how he acts.
The only way to stop him from hurting himself
Is for me to suck it up and finally quit fooling myself.

The grandeur of this place is oddly soothing in the solitude it affords him. A holy place, just hushed, here suspended in the silence after Mattins when most have shuffled out. It's a favorite moment of his, a favorite service to attend, and today it gives him pausethere is training, and paperwork, and a squire for him to wake and a council meeting and a king, but he lets himself linger nonetheless. An angel lost her skill of flight
While she fell, her wings, the vanished
As from heaven she was banished
Thoughtless folly was the reason
Up in heavens seen as treason
So they opened up the gates
To make her pay for her mistakes
Of falling for a human man
Despite the heaven's other plan
She landed in his caring arms
Filled with strength and hearty warmth
To him she seemed no mortal girl
She carried awes of other worlds
A halo sat within her hair
Very faint but it was there
As for her features: sweet and plain
Beautiful like sun through rain
He fell for her like she'd for him
The romance was just to begin
This fallen angel was way more
Than that young man could have hoped for
Remarkable she was for him
His life should only just begin
He knew when they were newly-weds
And felt it when they'd share their bed
He vowed as long as they were living
She'd be worth more he could be giving
However this couldn't turn her rough
As for him she felt deepest love

The old woman pushes the book across the counter, "There you are, miss."
A young woman picks up the book, a story of adventurous pirates, one of great fame: Treasure Island. She's never read the book before, despite her near obsession with literary works. She stares at the cover for a short period, the image of the pirate captain and the young boy approaching a beach speaks volumes onto it. She opens her tiled rainbow satchel and places the novel kindly between her school science book and notebook, which are surrounded by miscellaneous items placed in careless areas. She leaves the library, a light smile upon her gentle pale face. She pushes her blonde hair from her face as she steps down a small flight of stairs. The free hair brushes annoyingly against her blue hoodie. She grabs her hair and ties it up to cause less self-disturbance. The snow is finally melting in the town of which she resides, she walks patiently to her home, about ten minutes into this walk she pulls out the book i

I've imagined moments like this.
I've day dreamed of times where we would be in some ubiquitous room,
and we would be alone,
and I would say something romantic,
and you would kiss me like you never did.
You walk by.
I had a real dream that we got married in the sky.
The clouds had been transformed into air balloons,
and your chest started to glow as I said my vows,
and your eyes had stolen the key to the sky
along with all of its electricity on a saturday morning.
You sit down.
Next to me is where I want you to be at night.
I lay in bed, caressing the empty space next to me,
wondering if you think of me as much as I think about you,
knowing the answer is no,
but still entertaining the idea
still playing with the possibilities.
You smile at me.
Those eyes can bring me into another world.
A world where I can hold you as the weather shifts outside,
a world where you are the princess,
and I am the prince, a royal servent.
A world where I can erase the hurt you so carefully hid

As I do on my cigarette
That steals my oxygen but gives me smoke
To screen out everything

I need to be by your side
And feel your hip against my hip
Our shoulders touching
Say a prayer and wish with me
That we will be
One day near one another
Let us pray that we can be a part of the constellations
And be our very own galaxy
Where our cells will never divide
Our time we will bide
We will build a giant fortress
Made from our flesh, bones, and sinew
