I'm still working hard to improve and compete with myself.
I've learnt so much from many people I knew recently.
^^ I think we should realize that we are doing what we love and we should be happy.
Please don't compare yourself to anyone but your own.
As long as we are improving from what we were, it means we are closer to the goal.
I wish you all good luck and I hope you are doing well for what you do.
I'm cheering you ! Let's do our best.
Have a good day!
Take care of yourself.

Microsoft Surface Pro Hands-On + Thoughts for ArtThe local Boston Microsoft store has the Surface Pro on display, and I got a good solid 30+ minutes to play with it.Microsoft Surface Pro Hands-On + Thoughts for Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Pro is definitely thicker than the Surface RT and even the iPad 1, but it's not to the point of feeling unattractive -- if anything it improves handling a little bit because it makes it nearer to the thickness of something like a book. I had no problem gripping the drive in portrait mode one-handed. (Being a widescreen device, it can get a little uncomfortable in landscape mode, but only if gripped from the sides. Top or bottom is just fine. Two handed is no problem at all.) The great thing about the Microsoft store is that they don't tether their devices down, so you can unplug it, pick it up, move around with it, really get a feel. That said, the weight, at 2 lbs, is no issue to me either. I have big hands, and I'm used to picking up heavy stuff for long periods of time (groceries etc) so I can't speak for everyone on that -- but if I owned the Pro, I'd have no qua

PE :Artistic ExcusesYou know, everywhere in the world, inspiration strikes, new artists are born, and new styles are born. We all start as beginners and take our time...but then certain points...there are times when we feel a certain way about our art. Some people don't think that they cannot get better when you know you can. Some people feel they should quit....when you can keep going. Some people feel like you're nothing...when you are something...those things are called excuses...there is no excuse why you cannot accomplish your goals to become an artist. "That is awesome!"

Bleach OC CommunityNow that I'm back into the swing of things and I have projects on the table, commissions being drawn, and open text documents running the background as I write this, I wanted to put a message out there for the Bleach OC community. Well, some of it actually applies to ANY OC community, really.Bleach OC Community10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've spent the last five or so years on this site devoting most of my time to doing my thing in the Bleach OC/AU community. It started out small. I had gotten into Bleach after watching the episode where Ichigo and Renji first met and fought one night on Adult Swim, and all I could think about was cool it was that they were showing blood (Ichigo initially got his butt whooped). A few months later, I saw another episode and found myself completely lost, so I went online and streamed a bunch of it directly into my face until I couldn't blink anymore. That caught me up, and I found myself completely enthralled by the idea of the Gotei 13 and the genius behind making the art style so simplistic. I had

TOS verbage shamelessly stolen from wolf-nymph because she said I could...
The average person has very little respect for artists. I'm not saying they don't respect art, because they love art. Even if they don't understand the art itself, people understand the cultural and personal need for Art. But outside of the entertainment and advertising industries you find very few people who see a need for artists. I'm not sure how many conversations I have had where people ask me what I went to school for then laughed at me because I have a major in art and a minor in art history.
"Wanted an easy A, huh?"
"Didn't want to take real classes?"
"How do you like being poor?"
These people hardly ever realize that they've just insulted me. The same people that claim "I wish I could draw/paint like that" look down on the person that did the piece. Apparently art is supposed to be a talent that you either ha

If you're wondering how to improve as an artist, the answer is...
Practice, of course! But, I've also come to understand that the attitude we bring towards improving is almost as equally important, if not more important. I say this because it is our attitude and mindset which may determine whether we are "in the mood" to practice or not, and of what subjects we're willing or limiting ourselves to practice.
I believe a lot of artists may feel they are not getting much better at art and feel frustrated because they've been drawing intensely for months or years. Some may have actually improved noticeably but won't let themselves recognize it because it's not good according to their standards or expectations. Or some may have actually not improved much because they have become

- Firstly, I see my mistakes. I'm not as good as I want to be yet and there are thousands younger artists with wonderful art out there. Sure it's fascinating when a 10 year old draws a masterpiece, but instead of thinking "I must do my best too! Yosha!!" I see many comments with depressive thoughts. Age does NOT matter.
- ANYONE can become better at any age, you just need love and practice . Don't look at your art in bad ways when startin

*Vellez asks "What is your creative process? Do you just research and then begin drawing when you get an assignment, or do you mull it over a bit?"
Hmm it usually starts with me getting the assignment since I spend my freetime drawing other things mostly (these days at least). As soon as I know what the client wants, I leave it alone for a couple of days and wait for ideas to sprout in my head. The rest is just craftsmanship, you know, drawing the stuff and everything. The real work is done as soon as I put down the thumbnail sketch.

<thefluffyshrimp> ~Fisharto asks "Without sharing too much of your ways to making environments how do you come up with ideas for painting?"
<JonasDeRo> Hello Fisharto, good question!
<JonasDeRo> I would say my main source of inspiration is traveling. I love painting but I love to travel even more; seeing cities, towns, nature really inspires me in the first
ImprovementOver the years, many people have asked me for how long I've been drawing. While it's true that I started drawing as soon as I was able to hold a pencil, I was never that serious about it. In a sense, you can ask yourself if I was any serious on art altogether. Because, in the end, all kids draw. I think most people can remember making drawings in grade school. Because it's something kids do naturally. Depicting the world around them with images. The beautiful thing is that kids have no fear. They just draw whatever they like, and are usually happy with it. It isn't until the age of 10 or 12, that the outside world suddenly expects you to be either good at something, or stop doing it. It's at that age that we become self cautious about drawing. And therefore it's around that age many kids eventually stop drawing.Improvement2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I came to that age as well. I have to admit... it kicked in a little late on me.
For those that wonder what I'm talking about; those are the 2 years I stopped

“This reminds me of _______’s style.”
No, You can not “copy” a style because no one “owns” a style.
WE ALL START OUT SOMEWHERE
Do you believe that all artists are simply born with natural talent? That, without looking at another piece of art their own life, they are able to produce master pieces?
Of course not. They have to learn. They learn from artists in the past. They have teachers. They study other people’s artworks.
That’s how life works. You have to learn from somebody to get somewhere.
If no one is willing to share what they know or learn from others, we can't make advances in anything. (ie. the medical field)
One can not simply wake up one morning and produce a masterpiece. They have to learn, practice and look fo

This journal keeps track of current contests of our members or affiliates. Other group's and people's contests can be advertised here, too. If you want to promote your contest, comment on this journal or note the group or me, I'll add your contest to this journal. (Contests are sorted by deadline.)
If you do commissions and want to be added onto our list, comment on this journal or note the group or me. (It's only for members of Kawaii-World, otherwise this journal would be too long. If you closed your commissions or the link to it doesn't work anymore, I'll take you down from the list.)

Challenging YourselfAs some of you may have noticed, I've started tackling environment concepts. For those of you who have been watching for a while, you'll know that this is a new thing, and you may or may not have noticed that I've generally avoided it. Why?Challenging Yourself2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Because I hate environments.
I love them when other people make them, I find them breathtaking and inspiring and occasionally felt moved enough to make my own--which never seemed to live up to what I had intended. I always told myself that if I just kept chipping away at it, I would get better, but it didn't seem to happen, so I just shrugged and moved back to characters.
Then, recently, I realized how poor my portfolio was in regards to environments and how that was a huge black mark on me professionally. So I heaved a great big sigh, opened up photoshop and got thumbnailing. I thumbnailed sci-fi environments because, I reasoned, if I hated environments any way, I might as well do sci-fi. I hate sci-fi. (Why do I hate sci-fi? read above...)
