The Basement MassacreThere is a knock on my door. The Basement Massacre3 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
I walk to it, and open it.
It is one of the guards.
"Miss, I am to take you to the basement.
There are riots.
Please Miss, for your safety." he says.
Why would the guards suddenly care for my family's safety?
We are prisoners of the rebellion.
But, I get up, and follow him
to the cellar.
I see my family there.
My sisters, my father and mother.
The guards gather us together.
Their leader pulls out a slip of paper.
He starts reading the orders that we are to be executed,
Before any of us can do anything,
he takes a pisol, and fires at my father's head.
He collapses in a growing stream of blood.
My mother is praying.
She gets shot too,
before she can finish her prayer.
Then they turn to us.
Now I have completely registered in my mind that I,
Daughter of the Russian Tsar,
will die tonight,
in this basement.
The guard that led me here
fires at my chest.
The bullet somehow bounces off my corset.
The other guards shoot at my siste
Project: Improvement for the Better (UPDATE)September is Self-Improvement month. I thought this would be a great time to launch my project that I am calling "Improvement for the Better."Project: Improvement for the Better (UPDATE)3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
As artists, we are really self critical of our work.
I thought it would be interesting to see how much you have improved.
So, to participate in this project, you will take an old work of yours, be it on the site or not, and redo it. To submit it, you will place the two side by side, and label them Before and After. You may also say in your artist's description something like "the one on the right is before, and the one on the left is after" or something like that. Your title will be "Improvement for the Better: (how much time between the two) You will submit to a folder named Improvement for the Better in my group Proud-ToBe-Divergent You don't have to be a member there to submit. (Thank you to Cheburaskah for beta-ing that). Everyone gets one entry per person. This project will end at the end of September.
There will be prizes, which
The Wolf GirlMy name is May,The Wolf Girl3 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
and I have seen a wolf.
It was late afternoon.
I had just got home from school.
I was unpacking my school bag,
when I glanced out the window.
I saw the ferns outside rustle.
I saw a grey blur across the yard.
Than 2 more emerged.
“Mama!” I shouted,
“there are wolves outside!”
She came running quick
to see the last one disappear
into the forest.
and called the police
reporting a pack of wolves.
But when they arrived,
the wolves were gone.
They left no trace
except for our trampled ferns.
The next day, it was all over the news.
We don’t get much wolves around here.
The headlines called me the Wolf Girl.
It died down weeks later.
I didn’t think much of it,
well, until today.
I am walking to the bus stop
when the undergrowth next to me rustles.
A grey wolf slides out into the morning fog and mist.
I freeze, and look down,
for I knew that looking
into its eyes is a sign of aggression.
“Please go away,
