Fantastic Fractalicious Fractals issue 14The first issue of this year! This time I want to present some of the coolest fractals from 2011, it was really difficult to pick out some faves of the year, you are too good!!! But first, a short resume of last year's happenings.Fantastic Fractalicious Fractals issue 141 year ago in Personal More Like This
What happened last year?
Pretty lot! There have been fractal circles with tweaking fractals around, both in the group :#fractalcircles: and ponging parameters in :#aposhack: , Light `SuicideBySafetyPin introduced us for the Inspiration station, the fractal flash mob, a collective feature of different artists. *heavenriver has her UF challenge going on http://heavenriver.deviantart.com/journal/Ultra-Fractal-monthly-Challenges-Redux-Vol-12-277027446 and `f--l--A--r--k has his Apo challenge http://fav.me/d4l1fc6 and it would be great if we could keep up supporting them! Mandelbulb3D and to a lesser extent Mandelbulber have been all the rage over the past year or so giving us a whole new way to experience some of our favourite fractal forms
and showing us new realms of fractal pleasure as infinite vistas from alien worlds open up before us.
Mandelbulb3D was brought to us by the tireless work of Jesse and friends over at Fractal Forums http://www.fractalforums.com/ Taurus66, cKleinhuis :iconbib993: along with
the numerous (no pun intended) formulas made by the likes of luca :icondark-beam: and :iconFractKali: . These guys really deserve a whole lot of praise for bringing the world such a brilliant set of tools for free .. yes for free http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=43

APOPHYSISWe are going to have special features (from time to time)about the different software programs that we all use to make our fractal image art. This first one centers around the very popular program APOPHYSIS.APOPHYSIS1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Apophysis is an open source fractal flame editor and renderer for Microsoft Windows.
Apophysis has many features for creating and editing fractal flames, including an editor which allows one to directly edit the transforms by manipulating triangles, a mutations window, which applies random edits to the triangles, an adjust window, which allows the adjustment of coloring and location of the image, and even a scripting language with direct access to most of the components of the fractal, which allows for effects such as the animations seen in Electric Sheep, which are also fractal flames. Users can export fractal flames to other fractal flame rendering programs, such as FLAM3.Scott Draves invented Fractal Flames and published an open source implementation written in C in t

Fractal Features - JanuaryFractal Features - January1 year ago in Art Features More Like ThisFIRST, SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT...
how many fractal artists are there here at DA and how many worldwide?
is someone using (or have interest in) fractals in professional life (except making tools for us) or some art-unrelated form?
how does awareness of art being fractal change (raise) perception and appreciation?
SPECIAL SELECTION: beautiful 3d fractal scenes
by ~carlx is really fascinating with its clean design and peaceful setting, in an impeccable composition.
by ~Len1 reminds me of an illustration for a dark fantasy novel, with great attention given to both design and atmosphere.
by ~Forgot-my-pen is a beautiful and really creative manipulation with a nice touch of surrealism.
by *LeonieZurakowsky shows great depth, intense colors and a very dynamic composition.
by ~Ectoplaz shows us the wonders and the great express
In Memory of Mark (kram666)We are sure many of you in the fractal world, here at dA, know of the terrible loss of one of the most amazing fractal artists *kram666. Mark was not only a fantastic fractal artist, but also a great friend to many and always full of the nicest things to say. I know I was always dumbfounded why he would ever fave any of my fractals when they never even came close to the work he did, but he was always full of encouragement and never once let a thank you go by without saying, "You're welcome." I know James and I will also miss the wonderful photos of his dear foxes, as well as his gentle free spirit that made dA a nicer place for so many of us. He will truly be missed by us all.In Memory of Mark (kram666)8 months ago in Personal More Like This

Announcing the Render Evolution Project 2Hello again! Due to an enormous amount of positive feedback, I am running the REP again. This time around, the initial piece is being made by *GrahamSym.Announcing the Render Evolution Project 21 year ago in Personal More Like This

1. You tweak what I tell you to in a note, it will be different for each person.
2. You NEED to render at the size of 1600 pixels by 1600 pixels.
3. You have to be alright with your art being posted by others, though credited to you. Everyone is allowed to post the big compilation that I put together at the end.
4. I WILL submit the final compilation as a print at the end.
5. You MUST post your parameters.
6. Note me if you are interested. If all 20 slots are full, you will be put on a waiting list. Anyone on the waiting list at the end of this run will be given priority for slots on the REP 3.

This is an encouragement to use POLYFOLD_SYM!
This transform adds a polygonal symmetry to a fractal, of specified order (order should be an integer number normally. Even orders are 100% continue while odd ones have a discontinuity plane... )
Normal PolyFolding did not allowed to choose a shift without breaking continuity instead this allows to do so! Try it.
Rules;
1) You must use ALTERNATE mod
Have you heard about .....Several weeks ago, in my daily effort to view all the daily submissions from the many Groups and individuals I watch, I started to notice more and more frequently that some of the Fractals I was viewing were being created using this new program. First it was just a few a day, then suddenly I was seeing dozens of Flames being created with JWildFire! Curios about this newcomer to the Fractal Scene I went to the website and discovered that the software is designed to run using Java and will run on multiple Platforms.Have you heard about .....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So, I with to the developers da page and told him that I had created a folder in Xtreme Fractals for the software! http://xtremefractals.deviantart.com/gallery/34103672 I also grabbed a snippet of information about the software to put on the left info panel of the folder. Since then the developer, *thargor6 has joined our Group and he and I have had several discussions about his program! What follows is a result of those discussion. Here's Andreas aka - Thagor6
FFF series issue 13You wonder what's with the weird title? Yep, I thought I should submit with sta.sh instead of my journal, and of course, it was the famous 30 character limit again. Nevermind, I've heard that it will change soon. I'm back again with the series. And from now on, the series will come out semimonthly instead of each week. It gives me more time to dig up new goodies and collect resources and news. And you'll not be tired of the squirrel and her instant chattering. 2011 BMFAC News UpdateBMFAC winners published in print magazine!2011 BMFAC News Update1 year ago in Digital Art More Like This
The 25 winners of the Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest were contacted in mid February to supply large format files of their winning images and also a short bio explaining their interest in fractal art, software used and general information about their work if they chose to do so. We were also informed that the first exhibit would be held in Logroño, in Northern Spain. Javier Barrallo, a Professor of Mathematics at The University of the Basque Country, Spain and also one of the panelists for the BMFAC was our contact for this. The current exhibit will be in the Casa de la Ciencia (House of Science), in Logroño, the Capital city of RIOJA until June 10th. I'll post a few pictures Javier sent further down. Javier also says he will send more pictures soon.
Also when I was contacted in February, Javier informed me that he had written an article about the BMFAC for a Spanish scientific magazine with all the winning images i
