Bondage/Discipline. Dominant/Submissive. Sadomasochism. BD DS SM. BDSM. It's a global phenomenom that's legal--as long as it's consensual--in the majority of countries. 5-25% of America alone is either part of the subculture or enjoys it. There are songs--Rihanna's "S&M," Lady Gaga's "Teeth"--dedicated to it. So, why do so many people fear it or are disgusted by it? Why is what people do in their bedrooms so controversial that it requires fully-clothed people on deviantart to put a "mature content" stamp on their work?
Here are some of the stories I've heard:
They have serious mental problems stemming from trauma in the past that leads them to enjoy such "torture."
The dominant--seme--positions are ALWAYS sadistic, and it's how they get rid of their feelings.
The submissive, or uke, positions have something neurologically wrong with them to make them enjoy pain.
