Before Cosplay Makeup: Basic Skincare! Before I write about cosplay makeup, I figured I should discuss some skincare basics. I feel it's important to know how to take care of your skin before you start putting gunk on it! This is really very basic so I think those of you with your own regimens already might be bored by it! But here it goes!
I'm not an awesome guru wizard thing, but I'll just share some general concepts and products that work for me. It's different for everybody, but I hope this will be helpful! For your sreference, my skin type is combination: normal to dry with an oily nose. Hahah! Not my T-zone, just my nose!
Recently, my male friends had gotten very interested in makeup for cosplay and asked me for tips on how to go about it. (I think this was fueled by Kaname's visit to our country for Cosplay Mania '12, and they saw how beautiful he looks. ) I decided to ask them about their skincare regimen to figure out what products might work for their skin type.
When I asked what they wash their face w

In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

A couple of weeks ago, we attended an event called Fantasy Quest 2. (The very first Fantasy Quest was when we cosplayed Harry Potter characters.)
It was a pretty special day for us because four years ago, we had our first shoot and bonding day with Ysabel ~SavingSunlight at the venue, Fernwood Gardens.
We've been really into Adventure Time, so many months ago we decided we'd do AT cosplay, and that Fantasy Quest would be a fun opportunity to do so. It feels weird how we had been looking forward to this event for ages, and now it's over!

Sorry I couldn't update sooner! I've been wanting to make this post since right after Fanime but after that I spent a couple of days catching up on sleep and going around San Francisco, then it was time to fly off to Maryland to visit my cousins who dragged me over to New York right after I got there. Now we're back in Maryland, and I can have my quiet time.
I was actually feeling kinda down right before we left. I'm just very sentimental when it comes to departures, I guess. Ever since vacation started, I spent a lot of time with my friends, and I couldn't help thinking about how much I'd miss them while I was on the other side of the world.
While waiting in the airport, I took pictures to kill

Somehow, this silly page has hit 9 million views!
Just to be absolutely clear, I do not think the views make me any better than anyone else. I mean, I'm sure some of those are from people who don't even like me. But I guess my point is that it's crazy to imagine that this page has been opened up that many times, and I can't help wondering where all these hits have come from. And I just feel so grateful that a select few people in those millions have come to be irreplaceable friends to me.
It's been a wild ride with all of you guys through all this time. To me this isn't just a page where I simply showcase my artwork or the cosplay photos my friends and I come up with. This site has opened up so many opportunities for me, and has introduced me to some of the most wonderful people I've met in my life.
It's been a journey, and my interactions with the people here have taught me more than I can express.

We recently had an Ouran High School Host Club photoshoot, organized by ~Cyfliq. It started out as a Honey-sempai & Mori pictorial for Ysabel !Ken-chan-Byakushi and Kune ~kunebitt, and she invited the rest of us to come hang out during the shoot. We said we'd be glad to help out with taking pictures and anything else, and later figured that we could join in as characters as well. The rest of us didn't have a lot of time to prepare their uniforms so we just used casual clothes we already had. So yeah, sorry about the outfit and wig inconsistencies for now. This was just closet cosplay for a lot of us, haha.
That day was a lot of fun but we're also looking forward to the second Ouran shoot with a slightly different cast and proper costumes. Hopefully we get to do more than the usual school uniforms since the Host Club cosplays as well.

Working for free is the answer. You might balk at this because some critics say this gives the appearance that there is NO value to skill and talent. However- consider this: Working for free gives you amazing experience. It allows you to practice on someone else's project, see your work in print, establish a reputation and learn- big time. People who won't work for free WILL pay for a course! What better learning experience is there than to work with a client- such as a library or an independent book store or a school- producing poste

On misunderstandings about cosplayThis is a topic I've been meaning to talk about for quite a while now. I finally got the motivation to when Sarah ~sorairo-days emailed me to share my thoughts on what cosplay means to me, and what I feel it really means to be a cosplayer despite all the misconceptions about the hobby. It's for this article on Random Nerds, in which Sarah shares her side of it as well.On misunderstandings about cosplay2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over the years, I've witnessed how cosplayers are constantly looked down upon, which makes people apprehensive towards it. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful and rewarding hobby which brings people together. And in general, I am firmly against making anyone feel bad about doing something they want to do.
I am aware that the concept of cosplay might be too much for some individuals, but our intention definitely isn't to get all up in everyone's faces and say everyone should cosplay or whatever. We just want to promote a

Vocaloid JBF Flower Wreath + Ciel lenses, etc.Jin's Flower Wreath ProcessVocaloid JBF Flower Wreath + Ciel lenses, etc.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Sometime last May, Kat ~moonlightflight and I cosplayed our favorite Vocaloid song, "Just Be Friends".
Their outfits seem simple at a glance, but that actually makes things more complicated sometimes. Hahah. Despite Luka's dress looking like something you could probably find in a mall, Charmie ~yaoiangel14 made the dress from scratch exactly as it looked in the artwork, just for Kat ~moonlightflight. Kat and I also did our best with the part of their outfits that had the most amount of detail (which also happens to be our favorite parts) the flower wreaths.
I have some pictures of the progress of my wreath, so I thought I'd share them. This probably isn't the best method of going about this, but this is how I did mine and I found it pretty easy. (I wish I could have taken more photos or a video, but to be honest I wasn't quite sure I'd pull this off at first. Hahah!)
Introduction to Cross StitchingCross StitchingIntroduction to Cross Stitching4 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Cross stitch is one of a number of embroidery stitches, but usually the one most people are familiar with. Whether it was in a school art class or just randomly picking up a cross stitch kit as a kid, a lot of us have tried it at some point. Lets delve into this popular stitch a little bit.
What is a cross stitch?
As the name suggests, is is simply a cross, or an 'X' stitched with thread onto canvas. Typically, it's used to make a picture or a pattern. The stitch will form a complete square, and in this regard it is quite similar to pixel art. Through the placement of individual stitches adjacent to one another, an overall image will eventually appear.
It's an incredibly simple stitch, but can take some time to master. Like many crafts, it can be difficult to notice the

Here's my usual (ang getting increasingly late) report about the cons we attend!
We went as a Disney group last Toycon! And I just realized we don't have a decent complete group shot. That's okay I guess because it's definitely not the last time we'll be wearing the costumes, and we all had things we wanted to improve. We have a habit of doing that with new cosplays wear them to a con and observe pictures from it after to see what looked wrong or felt uncomfortable about the costumes or wigs or makeup. It's helpful! Some of our friends were also unable to join us for Toycon so we'll definitely be doing this again.
Most of the photos are from my camera but I borrowed some from friends and albums we were tagged in.
