I never thought much about my past, my childhood…But I do remember one thing. My father’s Axe.I remember seeing that thing resting against the wall by our front door. How hard was it to swing it each time? How much strength he needed to bring down a tree so that mother could feed the fire? I never asked. Too afraid to it seems. I had this funny goal of being able to swing it one day.
Mother told me he loves me. He just has a funny way of showing it that’s all…and I believed her. Well, most of the time. I could never remember the last time he hugged me or did he ever? Let alone speak to me directly.
I thought I had made the biggest mistake in my life when I begged him to train me. He did in the end and he did not back down. Like his other apprentices. I bled and bruised. Bandages now rest beside me instead of my once favorite doll. Shame, I have no place for that childish relic anymore.
