Literary ContestThis is a contest for writers; I will post a group of characters I made up for the contest. Their will be a bio of each character but their background will be left up to you characters from the list and make sure to keep that character's personality in tact as you write. I will have 3 different plots to choose from. (Note: I am not saying use all the character on the list if you can okay)Literary Contest1 year ago in Personal More Like This
These Characters are not in any story that I'm writing and were created strictly for the contest. What is listed under the characters are the bases to go on. I did not list height, age, species, or background. That is for you to decide when you write the character. If you have a question about the characters or if you want to know if you can add/change something, then I would appreciate that you please note me first. I promise I will get back to you with an answer within 24hrs. Have fun and be creative.

Childhood MemoriesPlease, please read this in the Journal tab so the deviations display correctly, they look badly collated on my profile page! :iconchibispainplz:Childhood Memories10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've been meaning to write this journal for... probably about a year As I've travelled the paths of dA I've seen things that remind me of my childhood home and have collected them for the beautiful memories and would now like to share them.
I was born in the town (now a large town I believe) of High Wycombe in Bucks (Buckinghamshire) in England in 1956. When I was 11 we moved to the countryside and I spent 4 idyllic years (when I wasn't at school) wandering the farmland and woods surrounding our family home. These years were very, very precious to me and I will cherish the English countryside inside my head for the rest of my life.
When I was 15 we got on a cruise ship and sailed away to Australia to live and I have never returned to the UK. Well, not yet anyway.
Thanks to everyone who has po

There may be an issue watching it outside the UK, but if you've an interest in gaming culture I'm sure you can track it down elsewhere.
It's well worth a watch.

Yeah, this'll end well.....Let me try to wrap my head around this: certain parties in the U.S government don't like the idea of assisting the poor, of the county they serve, with health care expense, because of the cost.Yeah, this'll end well.....10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Their "solution" to this is to shut down the government (something which isn't possible in any other nation on the planet), which will cost more, decrease public spending, lower the demand for imports, damage global economy and generally tarnish the U.S's international reputation even further?
The rich making others suffer in an effort to get their own way.
I believe that's called "tyranny".
Thank you! (Watchers and Donors Feature)I'm back! Sorry for not being active in the last 2 months.. As you may have already heard, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia were hit pretty bad with catastrophic floods. The situation in my home town was pretty serious for a while, but a few thousands of volunteers worked day and night and managed to keep most of it safe and dry.. However, many other towns were completely flooded. By now, everything has dried off, but many people had lost everything they had and they still need a lot of help. So if you want, or have the means to help you can find a lot of official info here.Thank you! (Watchers and Donors Feature)1 month ago in Personal More Like This

Tutorials and techniques 2It's time to refresh the tutorial journal! Added some new ones and removed those which, after some time, I found a bit misleading.Tutorials and techniques 22 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

Diluting QualityBioshock Infinite was one of the few games I’ve completed and been quite happy to immediately start again from the beginning. So good was the story and immersive the universe it crafted that it was a joy to replay again and again.Diluting Quality3 months ago in Personal More Like This
It had that quality so rarely found in interactive entertainment: a satisfying end.
With most games striving to be epics, we’re usually left with the developers leaving the door wide open for a sequel that may never materialise, and no ending at all, or just a crap boss battle followed by the credits to act as a marker for when and where the budget ran out.
Bioshock Infinite had genuine closure and had given you all the information you needed over the course of the game to answer any lingering questions yourself.
It was a perfect, stand-alone product.
And then Burial At Sea comes along.
I was delighted at the thought of returning to Rapture and spending more time with Booker and Elizabeth, but now, having play

Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 75 years ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measure
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install liteste
Drama.First off I want to just say a few words about LothiriellDrama.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've seen people posting about how she's ''copying'' my style. I wrote this to her and I will write it to the public to so you know where I stand.
I think this is complete nonsense. I don't see the resemblance in her art and mine, not enough to make a fuzz about anyway.
She has nice original art. Even if she does take inspiration from me I wouldn't mind at all, if anything I just find it flattering.
I do appreciate that people are trying to ''defend'' me or show their support for me by writing such things, but I really don't like when people trash talk other artists, especially behind their backs. If you have a problem with someone's art style or whatever it should be, how about just telling them? It might just encourage them to take it as critique and do something about it, rather than finding discussions being written behind their back. I've had this happen to me and it is not a nice feeling. It makes you feel left out and g
Preparing for NaNoWriMo Part 1We may only be one week into October, but November and NaNoWriMo is just around the corner. If you've never heard of it, NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month. That means in the span of thirty days, participants will write 50,000 words.Preparing for NaNoWriMo Part 12 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
1,667 words per day if they're writing every day.
2,273 words per day if they're only writing on weekdays.
6,250 words per day if they're only writing on weekends.
Either way it's a pretty hefty feat, and not something to walk into unprepared. Even if you're a "by the seat of your pants" type of writer.
So this year, instead of doing a basic what is NaNo and who's going to participate in it journal, we're gonna switch it up and give you some pointers on what you should be doing and what you definitely shouldn't be doing before and during NaNo.
The best place to get advice is from the people that have tried NaNo. Notice how I didn't say "and succeeded?" T
