Continuing a theme of master studies redone as Disney Princesses... this is Belle, from Beauty and the Beast, based on "Madame Paul Sigisbert Moitessier" by Ingres [link] As an aside - the original of this painting hangs at the National Gallery in Washington, DC. I've visited and loved her forever <3
Other Disney Princesses: Snow White - [link] Jasmine - [link]
Some of you may remember this painting I did back in 2009: [link]
The story goes like this -- I has gotten a new (supposedly) badass computer, which it turns out was a lemon, that blue-screened nearly constantly and with no provocation. The Elizabeth Bathory CHOW for ConceptArt.org was the first painting I did on that computer, and it was honestly the best painting I had ever done - until the computer did a BSOD in the middle of saving an iteration and corrupted not only my new file, but my old working PSD too. I lost the whole thing, and it was awful. I finished ... something... in time for the challenge, but I never was happy with it.
I put this away for a year, and then started this REALLY ambitious re-paint. Now, two years after that - working very sporadically on this from time to time - I think it's done.
Elizabeth Bathory is also known as the Blood Countess - one of the first female serial killers and one of the first modern vampire myths. More on her here: [link] Most people depict her nude in a bath full of blood, I'd decided to be different and show her recording her victims' names (she had over 650) into her book. With blood for ink, natch.
PS - I left the image kind of large so I can show off the details I am proud of. Don't go stealing stuff and make me put a watermark on it. <3
I did a bicycle pinup a while ago because I love Serge Birault's work Pinup: [link] Serge: [link]
At the same time, I was getting really into Fellini movies (and I especially love his wife, Giulietta Masina, in them) so I scribbled up a matching pinup on a Vespa, and then I forgot about her for a long time (new and different!) I dug her out of the dusty corners and finished her recently.
I won the Robin Hood round (woot!) so I got to host round #196 (I got to pick the topic). A re-imagining of any of the Wizard of Oz's four main characters. I went for all of them, this is Dorothy Gale.
The Cowardly Lion is here: [link] The Scarecrow is here: [link] The Tin Man is still in process
Edit, 02.04.2011 - did a bit more work on her this January before I submitted this for Spectrum judging. I like her MUCH better now.
Ok I´m not dead! I´m just buried under a pile of work at the moment. Sorry for not answering many comments lately.
Thus I don´t have any new personal works at the moment but as a lifesign here´s a commissioned character I did for the August issue (36) of the Fantasy Artist Magazine for Imagine Publishing which was printed together with a small step by step tutorial.
I hope i´ll be able to show some other work (mostly characters) soon!
Void Valkyrie-V (V for 5) is a recreation of an older drawing of mine from 1997: [link]
Known only as "V" or "Five", Void Valkyrie-V patrols the Milky Way gathering those who have fallen in spaceborne battles and defeating those that bested them if she deems the fallen's cause just. It is a mystery of cosmic proportions what she and her sister Void Valkyries do with the reanimated corpses of the fallen warriors she ushers into wormholes they open in the vastness of space. One can hope that we never find out.
