Standing out here alone in the rain
Trying to wash away all of my pain
Drowning the sorrows from past years
Hiding from my nightmares and fears
The rain just gets harder and faster
I miss the good times and the laughter
I hide from it out here in the wet and cold
And I suffer from the things I've been told
The rain follows where tears once went
The rain like the pain shows no repent
I suffer for everything I am deep inside
And I remember the tears I once cried
I look around and see puddles of rain
Getting deeper and deeper like the pain
The puddles that used to be puddles of tears
The feelings and thoughts from all my fears
I can't explain to you the way I feel
And maybe by standing here I'll heal
I'll somehow wash away some of the pain
And I'll just stand here alone in the rain.

Alice: Pardon me, but could either of you tell me how to get out of here?
Hare: Certainly! All you have to do is leave.
Alice: But how do I do that?
(Hare stares at her)
Hatter: He won't talk to you, he only speaks Cuban.
Alice: Can you tell me how I can get out of here? I'm quite lost.
Hatter: We're all lost! Do you think that house over there is mine? No! But I own it and I've lived in it all my life.
Hare: You'll never get out of here if you stay here. See, the key to not being here is to go there.
Alice: I don't understand your directions.
Hatter: You should ask the door mouse.
Alice: Where is he?
Hare: Oh, he's in one of these teapots.
Alice: He lives in a teapot?
Hatter: Of course not, we just put him there.
Alice: It didn't have tea in it, did it?

Bref DoubleBref Double10 years ago in General Non-Fiction More Like This
The Bref Double
The bref double is a French form. It is similar to the sonnet, but it need not be written in iambic pentameter (it can be in tetrameter, hexameter, or any other meter you prefer). The rhyme scheme is also different from a sonnet. The bref double contains three quatrains (four-line stanzas) followed by a final couplet.
The x standing for a line that doesn't rhyme with any of the other lines.
With crystal rain, the sky is filled
with diamond flakes that swirl and dance
to tunes that they alone may know,
unheeded by the ears of man.
The northern winds play havoc with
mere mortal plans, as drifts now build
their buttresses of pristine white
as if to mark some hidden plan.
This land is decorated, chilled,
and sealed for all to gaze with joy;
see all the children laugh, so thrilled
to witness Mother Nature's show!
Though my intent lies thwarted, killed,
my smile grows broad at so much snow!

One day my Love came to me
And said, "my Darling, let us have tea!
A tea that would flatter the Hare and the Hatter.
A good time to remember, you'll see."
Perhaps I should set the table.
Perhaps I should bar the doors;
For when the dreams come a-knocking
We'll be shaking and rocking,
Like insanity making love to the floor.
My Love and I sat at the table,
Drinking the tea with the dreams in mind.
"My Darling, don't fear.
We're all mad here,"
Said my Love in a voice truly kind.
Soon the dreams came like fury.
The violence, the calm, the shame.
Our poor fragile table
Was far too unstable
For the tea party's cruel little game.
The visions and dreams were all gone.
My Love and I lay alone.
The ruins of our tea were all we could see,
And an ache ran through our bones.
Fatigue, like a fever, was flowing.
"My Darling," said my Love,
"We should sleep."
He carried me to the bed, and lay down my head
On the pillows warm and deep.
I feel that the dreams are still with me.
Since the tea party they'

I'm living on a budget now and can't afford designer shoes
I'm getting used to passing by clothes I used to choose
And even though my credit cards have been calling out my name
I gave it all up for him and would give it all again.
I'm living here now which means my family is four hours away
I no longer have the privilege of seeing them everyday
And even though the thought of them causes me great pain
I gave it all up for him and would give it all again.
Every love demands from us some sort of sacrifice
I'm just hoping that what I've given is enough to suffice
And even though there's nothing that I gave that I'll regain
I gave it all up for him and would give it all again.

I do not dare speak.
I wish i could tell you,
but i am too weak.
My heart tenses up
as days open and close.
Someone, hear my plea,
take me out of this doze.
You walk in the doorway,
i avert my gaze.
Do not notice me,
and do not say it's a phase.
I'm sick of these words,
I hear them every day.
The last person i want to hear it from
is you, or i will pay.
It will cut deep in me,
deeper than you will know.
Because i can hide it, you see,
but the pain will only grow.
Inside me it will stay,
but i'm good at this game.
You'll be none-the-wiser
to this incredible pain.
Don't reject this feeling,
it is more than you and i.
But even though it has control,
i've found that i don't mind.
Because it's more than what you think,
more than just a sham;
it's more than just a feeling -
this is who i am.

"Another note and I shall die!"
Her threat was met with no reply.
And so she rested by the stream,
and heard the crickets softly dream.
She watched the cattails kiss the stars,
believing heaven not so far.
"And here is where I shall be free,"
whispered fair Serenity.

born into an ancient world.
No elegance or skill had she
but the ballad, of Serenity.
She was cursed with just one song:
a ballad haunting, soft and long.
The words were never hers to hear,
but danced always beyond her ear.
On harp, flute, lyre she wiled away,
the notes that only she could play.
Yet she grew tried of just one song
and ran away before too long,
into a wood with stream of gold
where rumored lived the bards of old.
She found the caves of deepest blue
and told them, "I have searched for you."
Serenity the bards admired.
They gave to her the sacred lyre,
which bound her soul between its strings,

and my things,
and my failed-to-follow-throughs
and my dreams,
and let the pain surge through me
as I dig through a drawer filled with pins
and tape measures,
and look at the bins of yarn,
and the stash of fabric,
not as bad as many,
but more than I expect that I will use,
and still the pain
doesn't back off.
Part of me is afraid it never will.
And I think of what I dreamed,
and what I created,
and some of it was good,
and some of me taught me a lot,
and some of it is here, gathering dust -
signs of my hope.
No regrets, for this is me,
I plop into my rocker,
and feel it creak beneath me
and wonder what to do next
and how even in the pain
and the aching of my hands,
and the longing of my heart,
I am itchy for something to make,
I am itchy to create
and I think about God
and the silliness of mortal ways,
and wish the damn medicine would kick in
and the pain would go away
and let me think,
