But how has it been done?
There are now 2 brand new ways to submit to your deviantART stash
Email: Everything has email these days, your PC, your tablet, your phone, even your Grandma!
Well now you can upload an image, simply by sending an email!
Here's how to do it:
Go to your settings, under the Apps and Uploads section
Enable the option to "Let me upload using email"
This will give you an email that looks something like firstname.lastname@example.org
Now write an email addressed to the email you have been given
Give the title of the image as you email subject
Put the description of the image as the email body
[Bullet; Blue] Then attach the image you want to upload
[Bullet; Blue] Now hit SEND! [:eager: by darkmoon3636]
Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 75 years ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measure
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install liteste
How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win7A lot of people ask me how to make TrueTransparency play nice with Windows 7.How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win74 years ago in Personal More Like This
The short answer is: You can... well sort of.
Here are the general problems (I'm going to assume people with Win7 are on the 64-bit version, or Win7 x64).
1) Explorer windows are not skinned (or any 64-bit programs for that matter).
2) Explorer windows skin, but the toolbar is completely transparent.
First, you will need both TrueTransparency x86 and x64.
For your convenience, here is a zip with both (x64 can be hard to find): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7100381/TrueTransparency.zip
To skin all windows, you will need to run both the TrueTransparency.exe in the TrueTransparency x64 AND TrueTransparency x86 folders.
At this point, all windows should be skinned (with the exclusion of "special" windows like Google chrome, Command Prompt, GIMP/Photoshop, Task Manager, etc.
You may notice that the explorer toolbar is completely transparent. There are two workarounds for this.
One involves removing the too

New deviantART Thumbnails
This feature will be rolled out to everyone over the next few days.
DeviantART's thumbnail images just got bigger and better! Starting today, we've increased the size of deviantART's thumbnails and, by popular demand from the community, we're also giving you a "Thumbnail Grid" mode.
Here's a run-down of what's changed:
We've made all thumbnails bigger!
Deviations display in tidier rows with no unnecessary cropping, allowing you to see the art as it's meant to be seen!
For literature thumbnails, the background has been lightened and
Project Educate: Composition BasicsThe action of putting things together; formation or construction.Project Educate: Composition Basics3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
The term composition simply means 'putting together' and is applied to all forms of art. In this respect, composition is all about the placement, arrangement or organisation of the individual elements within a photo. The composition of a photograph is what catches the viewer's attention and is what makes the image pleasing to the eye. By practicing and developing basic composition techniques, you can produce pieces of work which can recreate the impact of the original scene.
Some tips for developing composition skills are;
Look around using the viewfinder every time you take a picture.Look at each element and how it impacts the overall composition.Become familiar with your camera. Learn how it works, play around with settings and really get to know how each setting changes the overall image.Experiment and practice. Experiment and practice. Thanks so much to everyone for helping contact the original artists, submitting reports, commenting on the stolen works to redirect attention to the proper original artists and doing what they can to get this issue resolved!
Quỳnh Anh (M è o M ỡ)'s account has since been "deactivated". I'm not familiar with Flickr's terminology so I don't know if this means Flickr banned her or if she chose to deactivate her account herself. But I hope through it all Quỳnh Anh (M è o M ỡ) has learned her lesson: don't steal art!
I hope this brings fruitpunch1 and all other artists involved at least some sense of closure
I think it's important to voice outrage and demonstrate to those who do wrong that what they're doing is not acceptable and will not be looked upon nicely by the general public be it art th

DeviantART announced a month ago that through a new organization, Dadotart we applied to manage a new Top Level Domain (TLD) called “.ART.” We are committed to having the .ART TLD — the Internet addresses that could end in .ART — organized and distributed with the full participation of the global art community.
We need your help!
We need your help to show public support for the Dadotart application. The application process to manage a TLD is long, arduous, and intricate. Help us gather as a true art-centric community. And please spread the word to everyone who loves the arts or is part of the arts because we aim to have .ART be home to everyo
Walkthrough: TestingThis is based off an article I was asked to write for Model Mayhem, I’ve edited it to make it hopefully more interesting and useful to those of you looking to test with agencies, or who want more information about how tests work - this isn’t necessarily an example of a standard test, it’s more to show how unpredictable the world of Fashion is and hopefully to teach you to just roll with it!Walkthrough: Testing2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Tests (sometimes referred to online as TFP but only ever called tests in the real world) are when people come together and collaborate - essentially offering their work for free in return for photos for their portfolios.
Tests sometimes involve a full team (hair, make up, styling etc) or sometimes just involve the photographer and a model, there’s no set rules.

The day I’m going to talk about is one of the least pre-planned shoots I’ve ever done - seriously, I thought I was going to have a nice quiet day o

When did we decide that......the best way to view a GUI is on an angle, mocked up on an iPhone screen, with epically shallow depth of field? When did we decide that...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't care whether or not it's an app designed FOR the iPhone. If you take a photo of an iPhone on an angle with low DoF, absolutely ANYTHING will look good on it, even a pure white screen. I shit you not. The details and reflections in the phone's body make up at least 90% of the visual satisfaction, completely taking focus away from the actual GUI. "But it shows how it would look in the real world." No mate it doesn't. My human eyes don't have the DoF of an expensive Canon macro lens, nor do I use my phone holding it at a 45 degree angle, and sat in the middle of a professionally lit photography studio. When I buy food, I don't need to see a picture of somebody eating it.
On the flip side to making otherwise hideous designs look like the most amazing thing ever, a photo mock up also makes truly beautiful design look like crap. If you've spent days on end hammering away
Lumi, a first previewHey ! :]Lumi, a first preview3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I've made some new changes on Lumi, my future Visual Style for Windows 7. It will continue to change in some details, and it's certainly not over yet, different parts are still the one from Soft7.
Anyway here's the actual result :
White isn't it ? ^^
My main ideas were :
more "minimal", less transparent, and add a tiny color.
The window on top left is active, the others are inactive (mainly a difference in the shadow, but the windows themselves are a bit more transparent).
The "Yes" button is hovered, like the Music icons. The DVD drive is selected
I believe the caption buttons are too subtle right now, and I'm still trying to do a nice hover effect, subtle but visible.
It includes the new icons on the Navigation Pane, obviously based on the icons in Mac OS Lion, entirely made from scratch (all of them) with the subtle blue of the theme.
By the way, don't get it wrong, I hardly have time to play all t
Project Ed Tutorials: PhotographyPhotography In a sense feels like it would be simple enough for the most part.Project Ed Tutorials: Photography3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You use the device in your hands to look at something and you press a button to capture the image you want.
That's the gist of it, but there's considerably more to it than that, especially if you want to take something that accurately represents your intentions.
For Project Educate, I'll be featuring some deviation tutorials on Photography that I like and hope that you yourself will find useful as a budding, seasoned or humbled expert photographer.
They will be broken down in the form of Technical and Creative tutorials. Some will be focused on numbers and basic ideas to compose and make a quality photo and others will be focused on what you can do with those techniques to make advanced visual creations.
For the most part, these tutorials apply to anyone that owns a camera, whether it be your compact, point and shoot or a DSLR.

Happy holidays from deviantART!Happy holidays from deviantART!2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through dA,
Not a troll was stirring, nor Grinch in his sleigh.
Deviations were hung in digital Galleries with care,
In hopes that +Favourites soon would be there.
The n00bs were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Daily Deviations danced in their heads.
And Fella in his 'kerchief, and spyed with his night-light,
Had just settled down to log-off for the night,
When over in the Forums there arose such a clatter,
Fella sprang back online to see what was the matter.
To the browser window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the tabs and refreshed the cache.
When what to his art-loving eyes should appear,
But an animated sleigh and eight commissioned reindeer,
With a little old driver, so creative and slick,
Fella knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than broadband, his reindeer were famed,
After all his favorite art

The New Street Photographer's ManifestoFebruary 7, 2013/by techgnoticThe New Street Photographer's Manifesto2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “decisive moment”— the captured instant when all the photograph’s elements come together to tell a story in a way a text narrative of thousands of words could never begin to. It is what hooks people, both practitioners and advocate-devotees, on the art form. It is uniquely completely immersive in life— step out into the streets— in which the moment of artistic epiphany can never be guessed at until it suddenly happens. When it is properly mastered, it is as pure as the dawn of each new day, as true as the living organism of a teeming street scene catching a breath as one.
It's no easy task to pull a book together for publication and "The New Street Pho

Artists have always feared that they are unappreciated and that the march of progress comes only from business, science and their machines. 1984 was imagined by an artist projecting these exact fears. Our guest essayist suggests the computer will never be our master, but only the super high speed counting machine it was meant to be leaving humans with only one pure task— being creative.

Project Educate: Shooting first time nude modelsI am not quite sure how I ended up a nude model. Some days seems as though I just stopped concentrating for a few months and when I next noticed, I was naked in the rain in a not quite abandoned alley. I have worked as both model and photographer in Artistic Nudes and have shot a great many first time nude models, so as part of Project Educate Artistic Nudes Segment Week, I have attempted to create a guide for shooting first time nude models. Here it goes:Project Educate: Shooting first time nude models7 years ago in Art Features More Like This
As a photographer about to shoot a first time nude model, you are burdened with a massive responsibility. Naturally, you always have a responsibility to the model when ever you shoot but think of it like this: perhaps you are shooting the next Shy-Too-Shy, but, if that model does not leave your shoot with a positive experience of working with art nude photographers, they may never pose again. I believe you also have a responsibility to your fellow artis
