Heat blistered Miki’s face as flames wreathed around her like a maelstrom from hell. The air seemed baked dry, a Mercurean desert contaminated with the poison of humanity’s ill-willed creation. Her body seemed to burn but her nerves seemed so confused by what was happening that the pain dwindled into a dull sting. Miki gazed down at her hazy hands and felt her reptilian fingers clasp around one another -- half-melted pieces of flesh holding onto the dim memory of a life amidst tropical trees. She looked forward through the gray smoke and flashes of light. Fractured images of a broken dinosaur’s body lay wasted in the debris of human industry.
Little one! You mustn’t die! She felt a scream release from her radioactive maw but it merely seemed to echo behind the sound of annoying human artillery.
Miki leaned forward in an attempt to see through the smoke, but fell victim to a terrible pain in her body. An eruption of fire and ma

As kaiju attacks have been going on the rise, many have been wondering what exactly a kaiju is. The First Age of Monsters is a subject that has been under taught in schools, seen as just a string of coincidental freak accidents and little more. Now that we are experiencing the Second Age of Monsters, it has become clear that the giant creatures are much more than that. Yet what makes a kaiju different from other animals? How do they come to be? Precious few know the answers to these questions, and kaijuologists like myself have been working for years to improve those answers. This purpose of this short essay is to state, in layman's terms, what a kaiju is, how they come to be, and the different classes of kaiju are.
What Exactly is a Kaiju?
The word "kaiju" is Japanese. Roughly translated, it means "strange beast" or "monster."

Chapter 1: the Birth of Monsters.
New York City:
George was walking to school as he got pushed by a bunch of skater dudes and fell on the side of the sidewalk.
"Watch where your going, loser!" said one of the guys riding the skateboards.
George got up on his feet and kept walking. George was the kinda guy that was always getting picked on and, he wasn't even a freak or a nerd. The high school kids just randomly choose him to be their punching bag. (It's funny how high school kids think!)
Anyway, it was George's last year, as he was a senior, almost ready to leave these losers behind. As George got to school he saw his long loved crush talking with the other girls, chatting about some new soda coming this year.

Korra set her phone down beside her thigh on the steps of the front porch as Bolin came out from the door, two tall Sapporo cans in hand, and a tissue box wedged under his arm pit. She accepted one can from him, he sat down next to her, and the two cracked the cans open. They tapped the cans together in toast and let the bitter fluid pour down their hatches.
Bolin sniffed, rubbing his sleeve on his red-rimmed nostrils. Korra eyed his fatigued face, her brows tilting down with some concern.
"Doin' any better?" Korra asked quietly.
"Dot really," Bolin replied, his voice muffled by his clogged nasal passages.
"Sorry," Korra expressed her sympathy.
"Tanks..." Bolin sipped from his beer.
"So, uhh...Are they still...-?" Korra wondered, g

Korra sighed to herself, taking a moment's reprieve in the empty public restroom. She washed her hands, staring at her own reflection as she did so. This was her first day of real work, in a sense. She was to spend the afternoon monitoring the campus center building, within orbit of her superiors, after she'd endured a morning of being shown how to properly ticket cars that were parked at incorrect or unauthorized locations. So here she was, taking a brief bathroom break. She studied her appearance in the mirror. The black button-down and tie were...unsettling to her. And to have her shirt tucked in felt like an abomination. She'd worn her hair back in a single ponytail today, and that wasn't looking right to her either. Being told about all of these rules and restrictions and things she had to do or had better not to was also intimidating.
She simply didn't feel in her element here.
She heard some kind of clamoring to down the long, narrow h

Garethil felt his skin crawl as the hippogryph passed into the Ghostlands. Not only was it far too close to Silvermoon City for comfort, but the land was dead, tormented, and it tore at his druid soul to see the land so ravaged by disease and decay. He had seen the beautiful Eversong Woods further north, making the Ghostlands all the more grisly a contrast in knowing what it should have been. He shuddered again and fixed his golden eyes instead on the troll city they were rapidly approaching.
Zul'Aman was once the power seat of the Amani empire, threatening both the high elves in Quel'thalas and the humans in Lordaeron with extinction until the two races joined forces and all but destroyed the troll nation. Zul'Aman was now all that remained of the once vast empire, and the trolls guarded their home with a ferocity that was terrifying, striking out at any outsider with a vengeance.
Despite this, Garethil and others of the Purpose

Osaka, 7 pm;
Hedorah, the terrible Smog Monster, gurgled as his flying form landed in the midst of the city and quickly his body crackled with energy as he switched to his bipedal adult form. He then began tearing through the city, heading for a factory spewing pollutants. He was hungry and he would feed, no one would stop him...except maybe one warrior.
Fujimiya Hiroya stood watching nearby, anger at this ecological nightmare boiling. He pulled out the Agulator and trust it skyward, activating it. "Agul!" he called out as a bright light engulfed him. Ultraman Agul emerged and landed with a resounding crash in front of Hedorah before taking a fighting stance, ready to strike down his pollution born enemy. Hedorah gurgled in rage at being kept from his meal, no one would stop his single-minded pursuit of food and get away with it, it was time to earn that meal in battle.
Agul was first to begin the attack, firing a blue energy blast from his hand that collided with the

I miss poor Minya, he’s really cute.
To hug him would be a mighty hoot.

In abandoning his anchor,

“The ‘B’ he explained, “marks proof of Baradagi. We might put something else on the tapes if more patterns pop up that we notice.”
I shook my head. “More patterns? You got any coffee, Red Bull, Mountain Dew? This could be a long night…”
He strode into the other room, but was back in a moment with several massive bottles of Mountain Dew in his hands and a big grin on his face. “There’s plenty more where those came from.” he chuckled as he set them in f

Despite years of study, no scientists had been able to discover what exactly caused the first Age of Monsters. Hands in her pockets, Korra sauntered downstairs to the basement floor of the campus center. She moved at a snail's pace, just as she had all morning. It was finally her lunch break, but in the middle of such a slow and plodding day, this wasn't specifically exciting. She had paid a visit to the campus store the day before to purchase a couple of dress items to prepare for the summer - an SRU logo cap and a pair of sunglasses. She was presently wearing both, as she'd just come from outside before punching out for break. The cool, air conditioned basement was a welcome change from the sticky outdoors.
Before she'd even gone to the counter of Appa's to place an order, she was s
