50 Years of Guarding the Universe
An American Doujinshi by Matt Frank and Josh Bugosh
In the year 1965, from the depths of an arctic glacier, awoken by an accidental atomic explosion, came crawling the Friend of all Children, the Guardian of the Universe, the Terrible Terrapin of Tokyo, GAMERA. Sweeping the Japanese box office, and quickly becoming an pop culture icon in his own right, Gamera captured the hearts of kaiju fans the world over, both young and old. After 12 feature films, Gamera’s 50th anniversary is upon us in the year 2015…and any rumors of a celebratory film were quickly silenced. As the months march on, it seems less and less likely that the mighty reptile will recieve his due, even as the kaiju genre enjoys a resurgeance in popularity.
Ergo, kaiju artist Matt Frank, best known for his work on IDW Publishing’s various Godzilla comic series, has begun work on a standalone story, The Last Hope. Intended to be produced as a one-shot, self-p

Because he never did to begin with!
Monga (also known as Mosoga) is the horned, blue-skinned beast seen at the top half of those creature designs. And was planned to appear in 1969’s ”Gamera vs Guiron”, but was cut due to budgetary reasons.
Seeing that Monga is a totally different character from Guiron, and considering the circumstances behind his axing from the final film, it’s very likely that Monga is the legendary ’Terra Monster’, mentioned in articles surrounding ”Gamera vs Guiron”.
As you might know, the plan was to have a new species of monster overwhelming the dying planet of Terra. But to save time and money, the filmmakers took the old Gyaos suit, and
Jon De Bont's GODZILLA - The Untold True StoryAs of today (May-31-2015) SciFi Japan has finally released the final part of their four part coverage of the cancelled Jon De Bont's Godzilla movie that was suppose to be released back in 1994. To many fans that grew up watching Godzilla movies from the 60s to the late 80s, these four part article is something that is very important within our lives as long time Godzilla fans. These four article marks the end of many fan debate among what happened during the production of the Jon De Bont Godzilla movie as well as shed new lights on what went wrong and what really went down behind closed door. While in most cases, these type of issues are meant to stay a secret from public's view, the cancelled Jon De Bont's Godzilla movie was something that I personally feel was needed to be reveal to the public (in most cases Godzilla fans) and I was happy that the guys from SciFi Japan was able to gather up and write these wonderful article for all of us.Jon De Bont's GODZILLA - The Untold True Story3 months ago in Personal More Like This

Now that we've gotten the more famous tidbit out of the way, onward to the REALLY obscure!
To many non-Japanese fans, the "Godzilland" program has been a mystery until now. The only thing fully available was an episode of a live action variety show, with some animated bits of various Toho kaiju in a cute 'chibi' style here and there. The television special was meant to promote new toys, along with the release of "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II" (1993).
But for years there have been clues and rumors of an actual anime series starring the monsters as seen in the show and taking place on Monster Island (here

New MegaMan Legends Soundtracks Album From Morishita Reika!
At Capcom Japan, there was enough political force behind Legends 3 development that an agreement was made in which the sales of the Prototype would determine whether the game would be made. We all know that promise was broken, but despite constantly asking Capcom America's Vice President Christian Svennson if our fan movement has nothing to gain, he said there was no answer to be given.
More recently, Christian Svennson has said:
"Unfortunately, I do have some very strong opinions on where to move the franchise... and sharing them would likely shed more light on what I hope will be the direc
The Countdown to G-Fan Issue 100Believe it or not, we're closing in on the 100th issue of G-Fan Magazine, the long-running and fondly loved quarterly publication by Canadian Godzilla junkie, J.D. Lees. The Countdown to G-Fan Issue 1003 years ago in Personal More Like This
I felt it prudent that, given we're only a month or two out from the issue's release, I'd work up a little hype. Given that it's the 100th issue, I've thrown my weight behind it to celebrate the magazine that's given me so much joy, especially in my childhood. As such, I'll be not only contributing the cover, but also finally completing the long-awaited last leg of the GFANTIS: HEART OF THE BEAST story arc.
Not only all that, but I've been busy wrangling some of the top talent in kaiju artistry for a heckuva gallery for this new issue! Talent such as :iconsilver-ray:, :iconkaijuverse:, :icondaikamonohashi:, :iconenshohma:, :iconzornow:, :iconpaulhanley:, and hopefully many more!
So head over to www.g-fan.com or to your local comic shop and preorder it now! Issues will go fast, what with all the sexy and exciting people
Godzilla 5 in The WorksI found an old T-shirt I made where I painted several Kaiju names, one of which I made up. It tempted me to make a new Godzilla story.Godzilla 5 in The Works6 months ago in Personal More Like This
-This Godzilla will be the same one as in Severed.
-The Danner family from Severed and Shinji's family will meet and join forces.
-They will clone several of Earth's Kaiju and place them on Monster Island.
-The Devonians and Cyrog from Rulers of Earth will appear as the main antagonists.
-The main Kaiju antagonist is my old OC Kaiju, Vastatotherium.
-Mothra and Battra will return, along with many familiar faces.
-The Trilopods will appear.
-Keizer Ghidorah will appear as a separate being from Monster X.
-Title is "Godzilla: Titans' Wrath."
-Most of the Kaiju appearing will be the cameo Kaiju in the other four series.
-This story will be similar to an older draft of Endgame.
-It will be longer like Endgame.

LOL, anywho, my new modem is up and running so I'm back in action here, should be able to post some new DA commissions soon. I was gonna do a new "Hammer Horrors" review for Dracula 1972 A.D., I couldn't resist when I discovered some hammer films on demand XD, but the modem issue prevented me from doing so, but I may get around to it eventually when I have the time. Meanwhile however, I have this supremely awesome new Godzilla trailer to share, perhaps the best yet since we get an even better look at the Big G this time! Godzilla is simply breathtaking in his new form, blows the kaiju from Pacific Rim right out of the water! Still love those guys mind you, but this is THE KING >8D

Last December (2010), we had an art jam where artists drew their own sub-zero dwelling giant monster creations.
Well, we're doing it again this year, but this time around, the scope will be broaden to any kind of frost / ice / snow / tundra / arctic / Pluto dwelling giants, wither they be original concepts, or pre-existing characters from other media.
Just remember that your 'cold monster' has to be giant in size of course - preferably thirty feet in height and / or beyond.
Again, your illustration's subject can be anything species and character wise, just as long as it's somehow related to freezing temperatures and similar environments. And in some good taste of course (no extreme gore or sexual content).
This art jam ends January 3rd, and we'll be looking forward to all of your submissions.
Have fun everyone!

Instead, what we got could best be described as a sequel to THE TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (1975).
Trust me, I wouldn't begin a review with a hyperbolic, attention-grabbing statement like that without explaining it. For the moment, let us turn back the clock and toss out a quick recap of the film's plot. Obviously, this review will contain a metric crapload of SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS, but you'll complain anyway, so let's get on with this.
After a mysterious event in 1954 regarding the Castle Bravo nuclear test and an unknown giant organism, the story jumps to 1999, where two scientists, Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Graham (Sally Hawkins) are investigating a massive underground tomb in the

Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a

And in a choice of colors!
I've also been hard at work on Nadir's Zenith #3, and trying to go next level with the grayscale coloring. So far so good.
I've also had some HUGE opportunities to pitch my own original graphic novel story to some editors who LOVED it, so I'm pushing hard to get the script done to sub to them. It's been an exciting month!
Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday, too! If you happen to be in Oklahoma City, I'll be at New World Comics drawing free sketches all day! Come on by!
And on May 8th, we all find out if I placed in the X-Men design chellenge. I would LOVE to go to SDCC.

In honor of him, we're dedicating this month's art jam to a prehistoric giant he helped create, which in turn, went on to inspire many other such monster films, including the original "Godzilla".
"The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" is a 1953 film that was loosely adapted from Bradbury's short story "The Fog Horn", which told the tale of a lone dinosaur who mistakes a light house and it titular horn, for one of its own kind.
Of course, the Rhedosaurus of the finished film, isn't quite the same figure from the original short story (he's quite mean actually), but is a conceptual spawn of "The Fog Horn" regardless - especially since Ray Bradbury was involved with the film's production. It should also be noted, that Ray H

Believe it or not, both me and professional Godzilla artist :iconkaijusamurai: are huge fans of this show. Here's what the far more famous former have to say on the subject, straight from his Facebook page:
Yeah, I'm gonna' keep gushing over Hanna Barbera Godzilla, and there is literally nothing any of you can do to stop me.
Did anyone think to give this series a little credit for how surprisingly inclusive and progressive it was? No? Oh, right, you were too busy making tired jokes about Godzooky because you think you've had an original thought in your life.
Anyway, think about it. This may have been one of the earliest animated series to have a modicum of racial diversity in its ca

Problem is however, these pictures, do not tend to do that well in mainstream film format. Straight to dvd stuff does well. But theater stuff...not so well. And I personally blame that on two factors. The fact that there is no recognizability with the product...and that Jaws happened. Every shark movie is going to be related to Jaws because they are all going to follow that film's basic premise. A shark is going to show-up and torment some folks on a beach. It's pretty basic. It's not Shakespeare.
Fortunately for kaiju and monster fans...that will not have to be that way anymore. It was just announced yesterday that one of my favorite bo

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
