Solstice Greetings
It's the beginning of the weekend before Christmas, you've got everything sourced & sorted. From that which you give to that which you consume, like the turkey the nut-roast, the ham, boxes of fruit & veg along with plenty of booze. And it's all thanks to your little piece of plastic, your flexible friend. You're having a well earned rest & a very well earned drink, sitting before a roaring log fire watching the flames climb up the chimney. You are drawn inward by the warmth of the fire when suddenly, a face appears in the flames, an old man, his face painted, his long white beard plaited. Smiling, he holds out his hand, beckoning to you.
"Stretch out your hand. Stretch Out Your Hand.
Do you not have a greeting for me? Today of all days. Ending & Beginning Day. The day of Death & New Birth. Try "Solstice Greetings" or "Merry Solstice". You have forgotten me, haven't you.

My mistress, winter. My mistress isn't the loving heat of summer, nor is she the cooling embrace of autumn and if you falsely compare her to the new buds of spring you are much mistaken.
No, my mistress is of colder decent. Planting kisses upon my cheeks in the form of flakes and covering everything in a soft coating of wintry beauty that will always remind me of her and yes, I may worship the ground she walks on but she does make it wonderful, as the frost glitters and sparkles just like the twinkle in her eye. The occasional breeze that plucks at me and makes me tug my coat tighter around myself reminds me that she's there, keeping an eye on me, keeping her arms around me. A small reminder that even though she may not be there, she is still with me.
Her fingers gliding across the keys, each piano note washing over my skin like electricity as if each singular sound was a drop of rain and a storm was fast approaching. It was a background noise in my head to my life when I wasn't there to hear her live. Her

To share what you love II

Wed May 28, 2014, 4:12 PM

Hey everyone,

A little while ago I posted an art feature called To share what you love, because it had been a long time since I had done a feature just for the heck of it, filled with works I love, unaffiliated with any of the groups I'm an admin of, or any other specific purpose for the DA community. I figured I would do another one, just to share some amazing work that I love. So here it goes:

The first chime'Where am I?', the little girl wonders as she stumbles through the empty halls, which are painted in the same pristine white as her dress. Within her mind, echoes of screams and cries resound and she cowers in pain, as a few people hastily come running, pushing a stretcher, yelling things she cannot seem to understand.
They whiz past her, almost running her over with the stretcher.
She opens her mouth to scream, but nobody seems to care and as they disappear in the distance, so does every other sound except for the monotone buzzing of the lighting.
'What happened to me?', shoots through the mind of the little girl, as she looks at her tiny, pale hands, when a voice makes her jump, but even though she tries, she cannot make a sound.
"Are you lost, little girl?", the voice asks. It is a hoarse, but gentle voice.
The girl turns around and looks into the face of an elderly man, on whose skin life has left its traces. His eyes are filled with a sad kindness, the IV at his side softly drippi

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of the feedback you left for us.
  • Deviants were mostly positive about the new Write a Journal Entry page. Some deviants voiced concern about not wanting to use rich-text or preferring to use HTML, and so we wanted to clarify for deviants who currently do not have access to Beta Testing. The new Write a Journal Entry page can be switched into HTML mode from the Edit menu, which lets you type purely using code and acts the same way that the old Write a Journal Entry page does.
  • Feedback on last week's discussion topic varied. Some deviants choose to look primarily at Featured folders and not explore the rest of deviants' Galleries, some like to explore specific folders, and others prefer to click Browse to view all of a deviant's Gallery at once.
  • When submitting deviations, some deviants place everything in their Featured folder, while others choose not to use the Featured folder, or only put what they consider to be their very best in the Featured folder.

The Journal Portal Categories
When submitting Journals, you can submit to a number of categories within the Journal Portal. Do you find these categories straightforward? Are there improvements that you would like to see made to the Journal Portal? Are there ones you would add, remove, or merge?

Site Update: What's Hot (Beta)

Thu Mar 21, 2013, 7:11 PM

What's New

What's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantART

With the vast amount of artwork on deviantART, it can be easy to miss something, and it's common for artwork to get a spike of traffic long after it was originally submitted. About Project Porkchop

The DeviantArt Experience can sometimes quickly become the quintessential example of that most frustrating problem: too much of a good thing. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to peruse the thousands of submissions and postings of artistic innovation, creativity and sheer beauty that are generated everyday.

So thank you for ProjectPorkchop!

Astralseed, an Icelandic deviant artist with a penchant for equines, including Quirlicorns (a breed of unicorns), has made our busy lives so much easier with ProjectPorkchop, a feature she started on her DeviantArt page. Project Porkchop’s fine eye for the best of the newly submitted artworks of virtually unknown artists, the incredible art that slips past us, unseen and denied its due, day after day, has meant so very much for these artists trying to create a presence in the art world, beginning on DeviantArt. By spotlighting these skilled artists  and connecting creative art and creative art lovers, this group is doing the arts universe an immeasurable service.
