Finally some art again. ^__^
A pretty quick digital colouring underneath sketch layer + tons of effect layers. It was a fun sketch I just drew some time inbetween.

I like how it turned out. :)

This is my new Sona, Zuphi. You'll be seeing her a lot more from now on.
I tried a new shading technique with a bit of tweeks and I am quite happy.
4-5 hours worth of work 21, layers, photoshops cs2.

The hazelnut dragon feed on, like its name indicates, hazelnuts. Since it would need rather flat and strong tooth to be able to eat the hazelnuts, this dragon have quite a lot molar teeth, rather than sharp long ones like carnivore dragons often have them. It also have cheeks, so it would be able to chew its food before swallowing it. Since the hazelnuts have a rather hard shell, they use a quite interesting method to open these nuts: They fly high spotting a stone or something equal hard on the ground and let the nuts drop. Most of them would break on the ground.
This picture visualizes a hazelnut dragon preparing for winter during autumn. It would collect as much hazelnuts or other long durable edibles as possible, similar to what some of our animals do before winter (e.g. squirrels).

Taking some time between commissions to practice some extra-shiny gradient shading practice. A minty dragon, because he's very minty-looking. A nice spearmint with some cinnamon, mmm...

Tried a little something different with the shading this time - less shading, more highlights and vibrant colours. What do you guys think? (He's intentionally extra shiny and colourful, I'm mainly concerned with the crisp, graphic look of the highlights on the hard edges.)

Commissions in this style are avail if anyone likes it. I'll keep fussing with it, but I like my usual gradient shading way too much, hah.

Enjoy!

And it's done.:)

Edit: Some little touch ups I think were necessary. But now, I leave it.

---------

Another step, this time I figured out what I needed to do to get the result I saw in my imagination.
It's simply more lights, some adjustments and touch ups on the sword. The person's name, standing on the sword, is "Rhamoros", which is a name given by the dragon (I created my own dragonlanguage) later on. He will be the first of six Draconclerics.

The dragon's name is "Aalysarn".

The next step might be the final step. Stay tuned, thanks for watching.

--------------------------------------

Watch my recent steps here: [link]

The fourth step. I worked very long at this step, even if it's not a huge step "forward" after all, which has one simple reason: I almost went too far.

I added many lights, reflections of the sword, diffuse light, cast shadows, etc. etc.
But at the end I didn't like the atmosphere anymore. It was too much.

A golden rule when you're making art is: Save your previous steps! The digital tools are your friends.

Because I had almost 10 psd files I was able to "step back" to what I liked in the step before, without stepping back too far (which would cause that I would have to delete the newer ones). Let's say the fourth step became a mixture of step 3 and the step which went too far.
Still there is much to do.

I will soon write a journal entry about what I experienced during the work on that image.

Hope you have a nice weekend.

---------------------------------------------------

Alright, this is the third step for this image. Layer after layer textures and glazed colors were added. Just detailing and adding more lights and darks.

But it's not finished yet.

Some more to the backstory: Once there were six Dragonclerics - which were the greatest heroes during their lifetime. And this dragon met one of them.

Have a good week everyone, I'll work out the fourth step soon.

------------------------------------------------------
Finally, after I got enough energy (visiting the ILA yesterday was very exhausting) , here is the second step for the "The Golden Dragon Katana" image, I want to spend more time with it for sure.
I added more color and actually a background, but especially the color-palete is what I want to have here.

Then I worked out more texture and brushstrokes for the dragon.

Everyone who downloaded the first WIP image will see the difference. If you just stumbled upon this image, be sure to download this step if you want to follow the progress.

A little hint to the backstory: The golden Katana was forged by the dragon himself. It is made out of a steel/dragonscale/and a special golden shining ore-mixture. Actually, the dragon's forge is in the mountains which have a golden color due to the minerals he needs.

But who is the one standing on his hilt? Well, this will be told in newer steps.

Again: Download this step if you want to follow the progress, as I will change the image as soon as there is a newer step.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

---------------------------------------
A work in progress named "The Golden Dragon Katana". Just want to show you all what I am working at. Besides that I do some more speedies or other stuff, but I want to make sure I always have one work in progress for which I spend as much time as possible.

I will change the image as soon as I have a newer step - be sure to download the current step if you're interested to see the image's development.

I add a describtion about a backstory, etc., as soon as it is done. But one thing I can say - I wouldn't like to fight against this dragon in any case. Must hurt a lot...
