The shadowy alicorn landed in front of the steaming cave by the base of the volcano. Her wings folded against her side as she trotted closer, being careful not to slip on the mud and slick stones beneath her hooves. The air was filled with the stink of sulphur and the bubbling sound of pools of mud as they boiled in the oppressively hot and humid air. Taking as deep a breath as she dared of the stinking miasma she was surrounded by, she shouted into the cave as loudly as her prodigious voice would allow.
"Come forth Ille Qui Gubernat Monte Ignis- 'He Who Governs The Mountain's Fire!' I would speak with thee!"
She couldn't help but feel slightly proud that she was able to do this with breaking into a fit of coughing, considering the quality of the air. Of course no sooner had she thought this then a small cough escaped her lips. She sighed and shook her head ruefully, gently clearing her throat.
Luna's Best Night EverIt was the night of the Grand Galloping Gala and Princess Luna was thoroughly flustered. She stood in front of her mirror, pouting at her own reflection. Celestia had gone to great lengths to set the evening up for her, lowering the sun early and helping her to raise the moon and coerce the stars out of hiding so she would have time to prepare herself. She had even taken the liberty of personally greeting every guest on her behalf so that Luna wouldn't have an excuse to escape from the party itself.Luna's Best Night Ever4 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Luna adjusted her tiara and smoothed out the dress Celestia had picked out for her for the fifth time in as many minutes. She frowned a little at the puffy, lacy affair that now adorned her form, all ribbons and silk and crushed velvet with a large, elaborate skirt that made her feel uncomfortable about the size of her flank. When Celestia had told her no bit had been spared to prepare for the gala Luna had been shocked, even appalled by the flagrant misuse of the treasury to fund an event

Twilight Sparkle hadn't run this fast since she was a filly.
She rounded the spiral stairs of Canterlot Castle, gasping and desperate, until she reached her library workshop. Her chest heaved and hurt from the nonstop running, but she pushed it aside to concentrate on the task at hand.
They'd called her mad. They'd said she was depraved. They'd said she was messing with powers beyond her reach.
Unfortunately, for once, it seemed that "they" were right.
Wasting no time, she willed several books off of the massive shelves. They opened and spun around her. Twilight's eyes were lightning, moving across several turning pages in mere seconds. Her mind moved almost as frantically.
It should have worked, it should should have worked, it should have worked! None of this should have happened! I checked everything! I dotted my Is, crossed all the Ts, carried all the ones, seriously what happened here-
"There she is!" she heard a voice cry out from the hallway.

"Everypony, remain calm so as to allow our fair city to be efficiently defended!"
Even given its volume, Shining Armor's request fell on deaf ears. Unicorn citizenry either shivered in corners, or ran in all directions in an attempt to make themselves scarce from the chaos that was downtown Canterlot.
Meanwhile armored pegasi flew about, combating household objects which had become animate--brooms, mops, pantries, and even ovens which had learned to put their super-heating abilities to malicious use.
A squadron of fifty unicorns, led by Shining Armor and Princess Cadance, rushed to the scene of greatest commotion. While weary from preventing casualties for the past hour, they were still fueled by adrenaline granted through the will to prevent even more.
And at that scene, they found the source of the chaos--quite literally, in fact.
"Discord! It is you! I didn't believe it at first," said Shining Armor. He looked around. "Even when Celestia told me the legends of your

Rainbow Dash lay on a cloud, head in her hooves, looking out at nothing in particular. She had to keep her gaze down to keep the sun out of her eyes, and ended up pony-watching. Nothing in particular was going on; it was early enough in the summer that the heat hadn't gotten bad, but after planting season. Ponies went about their business in the late morning, a few deciding on an early lunch while most ran errands or still worked. Nothing special at all. At least, until she saw Fluttershy rushing through town with full saddlebags. It was odd enough to see Fluttershy in such a hurry, let alone with her packs. Rainbow Dash decided to see what her longtime friend was up to and took off from her cloud. She easily caught up to her Fluttershy by flying just above the ground.
"Hey Fluttershy. What's up?" she asked, making her flight look casual next to the hurried pony.
"Twilight said it was an emergency!" Fluttershy explained. It really came out more in gasps; Fluttershy was hardly

They say that time heals all wounds. But that's not true. Sometimes, time only causes the wound to fester—to become infected and burn with the fire of loss.
I have told this story at least a hundred times. And every time is like opening the wound afresh and pouring salt into it. So now, I write it down on paper so that those who wish to hear the tale may read of it. For I will never tell this story again.
It was the year 1903, and dust roared across the vast farm fields of Missouri. In those days, I was the head of a small family owned farm in a rural community. The summer h

Beads of cold sweat rolled down Rainbow Dash's neck. The hot ceiling lights above intensifying the anxiety she felt to such a point that she felt as though she was going to pass out. There she was, standing in the middle of Ponyville's largest store. Her eyes were wide, staring at the newest piece of fan-merchandise being sold.
No, it wasn't anything to do with the Wonderbolts.
It was a limited-time offer Daring Do wallet. Rainbow Dash had to keep her mouth shut to prevent drooling. The wallet was grey and had adventurer's face printed on the front, grinning competitively at some invisible foe. She was a force to be reckoned with, even as just a picture. Hilariously, based on how she looked out of the wallet, Rainbow Dash felt like she was the foe- her hero's ruby eyes piercing into her own like arrows in bows, primed to fire.

Up in the tallest tower in the city, Twilight found herself trapped within the confines of a black-crystal prison, the gems risen up from the ground, blocking any means of escape for the lavender unicorn. Just outside, Spike started to feel nervous. His eyes darted from side to side, his feet moved up and down like two, small pistons.
Twilight started to scramble within the crystal-walled trap, looking for the Crystal Heart with a set of panicked eyes.

Twilight Sparkle had never run so fast in her life--not that she had lived very long.
She ran across green hills and plains, leaving Canterlot Castle and its festivities behind her. She expected to become short of breath any second, but it never happened.
Soon she could see a house in the distance. As it drew closer, she could see a white unicorn looking out the second story window.
He didn't notice her. He was probably studying the castle guards from a distance again. He'd always told her that he wanted to be one someday.
She went into the house, up the stairs, and bolted through the door to his room.
Shining Armor quickly noticed her voice and looked behind himself. When he realized what the both of them were in for, he held out his hooves. "Twilight! Slow down!"

When we were praying for freedom
The light was blinding my eyes,
Then darkness came;
Was that the end…?
What waited were the graying walls
Lifeless city and kingdom
Is this the worth of my existence
Has nothing changed?
Am I alive and trapped in the death
Or dead and lost my afterlife
Was I ever anything else
Than these crippling chains around my neck
They say time has forgotten our life
Yet the scars are still fresh in my heart
Can't I just leave it behind
Can't I just forget it all
Am I a ghost that's wandering the earth
I remember nothing more but pain
I saw the light once faded
Is there meaning to even try to escape

Shining stared up at the oak door that towered above him. It was a normal door, no different than a typical door one would find inside a house. But given the contents stored away behind it, it had an unusually grand feel to it, and Shining couldn't help but feel dwarfed in its shadow.
The old grandfather clock down the hall let out twelve loud booms.
It was noon. The high sun's rays shone through a nearby window and across Shining's stationary, white frame. It warmed his fur while he kept his blue eyes locked on the door.
His parents always said how the attic held an eclectic assortment of things, from old music records to hardcover books that hadn't been opened since his grandparents lived in the house a decade before.
Shining imagined his deceased grandfather, the stallion with the amputated hoof and a pair of wild, yet kind, eyes. Shining imagined his still-alive grandmother, the sweet mare that would always have a batch of cookies at her house for him and

Emerged in the northern sky.
From thousand years of sleep
Woken the empire of past,
The world once perished and gone.
It looms in the north…
The echoes of cold dominance.
The king, the tyrant reborn
Waiting his renewed chance
To finish what had begun…
Drifting shells of the realm…
What's there… left… to protect…
What's left are filled with hurt and grief.
'Twas graying and tarnished,
The world they once called their home.
Despair and fear,
Tokens of slavery,
Left within the heartcells
In the lost, orphaned souls of the empire…

#104) Aren't bronies and furries the exact same thing? I think it's funny that so many bronies get offended when they're compared to furries. I don't see furries getting quite as offended about the comparison. Hah.
Answer: This is really the million-dollar question: are bronies and furries the same thing? The answer is, awkwardly, a little bit of both. Let's set the cards upon the table: there are all sorts of variables that come into the equation when defining exactly what a brony is. That's the first difficulty; if a brony is merely an adult watching the show, then you can't effectively argue that they're furries by definition just for doing that. If you did, then any parent watching the show with their child, or anyone who watched "Watership Down" or "The Animals of Farthing Wood" as children, or myriad other cartoons about animals, would be furries, which is ludicrous.
Just watching "Friendship is Magic" doesn't create a latent association with furries, despite what s

"You're going WHERE?!"
The earsplitting cry startled the birds that rested atop Twilight Sparkle's library home. Panicking, the birds rushed into the sky to find a safer place to perch.
Twilight was using her magic to pack several books and supplies into a few different bags. The books themselves covered a variety of topics, but she only packed the necessities, knowing she wouldn't need her entire library on her trip to Canterlot. The warm glow of the sun draped appealingly across the room, blanketing every surface. Certainly there was no better time to travel; the springtime aura penetrated everything, from the simplest plant to the most complex animal species. Life itself just seemed so vibrant, and Twilight was

Chapter II: "The Welcome Wagon Comes to Town"
Written by Diane N. Tran
For the first time in her mail-mare career, the pegasus named Derpy Hooves was late in a delivery. That delivery consisted of one single, solitary letter to be dropped off at the very last residence of her rounds, Ponyville's Old Clock Tower. When she arrived at the building, she was, of course, as punctual as ever, but the mail-box was still missing from the lawn and she didn't have the courage to knock on the door again.
Dressed in her saddlebags, pacing back and forth, she was at a loss of what to do at the moment, so she paced some more. If she left it on the doorstep, the wind could blow it away. If she slipped it underneath the doormat, it might not be seen. Then a thought came to her, perhaps she could squeeze the letter between the cracks of the door.
Placing the letter between he

"I thought we were going by air balloon," said Pinkie Pie with some disappointment. The truth was, she loved flying in it every opportunity she could get.
"Now darling," said Rarity indulgently. "That's scarcely a dignified way for us to arrive in Canterlot, all squashed together in that tiny gondola! Besides, it's traditional when travelling to Canterlot to go by coach."

Snips and Snails were dripping sweat as they struggled to drag along the heavy wooden cart that dug into the ground. The cart plowed up the dirt and left a sizable trench in its wake. They looked at one another, tired and worn out from pulling the new tyrant of ponyville to the edge of the forcefield. They stopped for a moment to take a quick break. As soon as they had stopped, a glowing red whip snapped at their backsides from mid-air.
"Pull you fools!" the whip snapped it at them twice more. "Somepony set off the magic forcefield and Trixie intends to punish them!" shouted Trixie as she prepared to whip her subjects once more for good measure. She did not have to go through with the final whip, as the two simpletons had begun to move twice as fast as they previously were. Snips craned his head back towards the unrelenting whip wielder.
"But wouldn't it be faster if we had some wheels?" he asked nervously, his voice higher than usual.

The big two-parter has arrived! And My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is kicking off with the Crystal Empire two-parter.
The first part is about Celestia giving Twilight the rather monumental test of finding a way to protect the Crystal Empire upon its mysterious return from the shadowy King Sombra (meaning shadow in Spanish).
And the second part is focuses more on Twilight finding the Crystal Heart which is key to stopping Sombra.
This two parter is easily the most visually stunning two-parter yet. Everything from movement to lighting to the absolutely gorgeous looking Crystal Empire is incredibly well-designed.
And surprisingly enough, darker as well. As in, there was more liberal use of black and shadows this time around, giving some pivotal scenes more atmosphere.
This willingness to be 'dark' just means that kids get a more well-rounded entertainment. They're gonna' have to use the potty on their own one day after all.
However, that's also the double-edge sword with Crystal Empi

Canterlot's silent, evening streets were not graced by the moon's rays, as a thick veil of storm clouds blocked it from view. The calm before the storm was chilling, the entire world holding its breath in anticipation of the first drop of rain.
And when it fell, it came in torrents, crashing over rooftops and spilling into overflowing gutters. A streak of lightning illuminated the entirety of the peaceful capital, the violent rumble of thunder following quickly on its heels.
However, the solitary pony ensconced within the Canterlot Palace archives paid no mind to the storm outside. She'd come to the archives on a mission; a mission of which nopony was to know. If news of this got out, all her careful planning would be for naught.

A certain pegasus flew back into Ponyville to find the entire town completely deserted. She flew all around, obviously checking the homes of her friends. Twilight’s Golden Oaks Library was all books and no ponies, every dessert in Sugarcube Corner was left untouched by Pinkie Pie, Sweet Apple Acres had no work of Applejack’s done, the Carousel Boutique had no Rarity for all those dresses, and Fluttershy’s cottage didn’t have a single living thing even living there.
Once Rainbow Dash checked everywhere else, she did find one caped figure standing in front of the town square. Next to the figure was a life sized statue of Rainbow Dash, but it was wearing a helmet, a red cape with a golden zipper, red strap on and a cloud making a yellow lightning bolt on it, and four golden gauntlets with tiny white wings for each hoof of the statue. The helmet and gauntlets were rainbow colored and had golden coverings to assure they were made of metal.
Once she flew close enough,
