SNIPPY: FLYING DAYENTRY 3647:SNIPPY: FLYING DAY3 years ago in Personal More Like This
November something something.
I've got to come up with a better system for telling what day it is. Maybe I could scrawl numbers on the back of my shoe? Nah, that sounds like something silly that Pilot would do.
I'm currently carrying a calendar that says 2012 on it, but I am pretty sure that these days aren't correct anyway to our year and Captain keeps scribbling things in the margins whenever I get distracted enough for the calendar to be snatched out of my hands. I found the calendar more or less intact and it's kinda impressive that it lasted from way back in 2012. It must have held some sort of personal importance to it's owner to seal it away in a plastic container with words "the Mayans were wrong, trust no-one!"
I've been trying to keep track of how old I am, but I keep forgetting to check off every day in the calendar or maybe captain is messing off with me by erasing my checkmarks.
Something tells me I shouldn't be telling Captain about my birthday anyway. I would
Apophysis Image Rendering and MultithreadingThis article relates to the fractal program "Apophysis" (Apo), but may also be relevant to other image rendering programs.Apophysis Image Rendering and Multithreading9 years ago in Personal More Like This
In Apo, there is a setting in the OPTIONS menu where one can specify the number of rendering "threads" to use. This has a direct impact on the amount of rendering time an image takes to render. If set to OFF, the image will render as if it was using a single CPU. If set to 2 or 4, the image will render in much less time, because it has 2 or 4 CPU cores of which to take advantage.
People who have Intel CPUs, which have hyperthreading (such as some Pentium 4's), can set this option to 2 if they wish (DO NOT use higher than 2).
Don't know how to get an image in here, so here is the screenshot link showing this setting option. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/46008841/?qo=1&q=by%3Azsteve+in%3Ascraps&qh=sort%3Atime
Hyperthreading (wanky marketing speak), basically means the CPU has "two threads" with which to perform its data processing (sort of like two C

01 Anatomy of typography
03 Numeral sets
There have been many images going around the Internet explaining the basic elements of typography but most of these sources are incredibly basic and incomplete. That's why I decided to come up with my own version and be as complete as possible.
I excluded several things like diacritics, the different ligature types, numeral sets etc. to avoid making it look too chaotic but most of the basic elements seem to be there. I will focus on diacritics, ligatures and numeral sets later in this ongoing typography series.
Click on the image below to go to the deviation page so you can comment and/or add it to your favorites and download a zip file including a 2000px wide .jpg and an .ai vector file:
A little story...Wanted to share this story with you guys, and future creators:A little story...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
After getting out of a slump, I wanted to share this story of something I went through a few years back. Bit of a read, but thanks for sticking through it
As you know, Comic-Con is arriving and as I prepare for it, I grow more and more anticipated with anxiety/joy in regards to the re-release of Last Man Standing.
As long, challenging, and mind-opening the creation of LMS was, something really stuck with me.
Before I had created LMS, I wanted to work for WETA Workshop. To those that don't know them, they've created props, designs, sets, costumes, and more for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, District-9, Elysium, The Hobbit and many more films.
I was obsessed and inspired with them. The creator, Richard Taylor was always a huge inspiration to me. After viewing supplements on the Extended Editions of The Lord of the Rings DVDS, I knew right there: I HAD TO WORK FOR THEM.
So I al

In the meantime, allow me to bring this here update to your attention. Originally posted on my website over a week ago, it details a few rather sudden (and yet, months in the making) changes to my life that may or may not have some impact on Marauder Shields as well. Here we go, ladies and gents:
"To all the ladders I've ever walked under and all the black cats that I've ignored during my restless strolls: screw you, guys. Just… Screw you in your wooden/furry asses.

My new webcomic series coming to The Escapist! If you’re one of the folks that kept a close watch on my time expenditures over the past six months, you might’ve noticed a certain super-secret project popping up now and then, most prominently around Christmas time. I kept it pretty low-profile for a while, mainly not to provide any more evidence that I am an overoptimistic fool that doesn’t know his ass from his forehead – because, seriously, if you’ve been around here for more than a month, you know I’ve provided enough evidence of that already. My new webcomic series coming to The Escapist!4 months ago in Personal More Like This
As of yesterday, though, it seems said super-secret project is finally getting some traction – as in: smiles being issued, handshakes exchanged, pens touching the paper, all the jazz. It’s a definite game-changer for myself — and I really couldn’t wait to, at the very least, tell you guys it’s happening!
And, thusly, without further ado, I’m batshit excited to announce that I shall be working with the awesome fo
Reflections of Life - Giving for NothingIn a world where mostly anything has at least a measurable monetary value and where even us, human beings are valuable or not depending on our skills when we seek for jobs, its difficult, to find any trace of kindness of someone doing something for nothing, and when I mean nothing, I mean actually no reward of any sort that can be tangible; money, objects, materials, or verbal appreciation for what you are doing.Reflections of Life - Giving for Nothing1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Well, it makes sense right?, why would us do something for nothing, its quite worthless, actually, quite stupid...
I am quite happy to acknoledage that this is not my case, and I am sure many people will complain or argue about that, that Im wasting my energy, wasting my potential, wasting my time or my hole life with that attitude.
Art is a great example here to put on top of the table, because we artists, not always but most of the time, make art for the sake of it, because we love it, and do not expect any kind of retribution but you from enjoying what you are seeing. I don
One of us, one of us, one of us!As most of you probably know, one of my main ideas for Koobismo.com (a.k.a. my workshop) was to create a simple platform for like-minded people to voice their opinions about many, many things, with a special focus on game stories and storytelling in general. We've recently had a few cool articles and topics you might want to join the discussion on - so allow me to point you in their direction while I write up my newest journal entry, to be published tomorrow (while I, of course, start working on another Marauder Shields ep)... So, here we go:One of us, one of us, one of us!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

ROBOT ROLE PLAY GO!I'm doing this to advertise. XD ANYWAY...ROBOT ROLE PLAY GO!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm looking for robots, aliens, and other sci-fi type characters to join in my GIANT ROLE PLAY about sentient robots who wanna take over the galaxy.
NOW, that sound over-played, right? Well, there's a lot going on besides that, trust me.
Many of these robots are fighting with their morality over this. They're developing relationships with aliens (meaning people not of their planet, this could very well be your average human), they're getting in deep trouble with their superiors, and some innocent people are getting killed...
HOW'S IT GONNA GO DOWN? Well, that's up to YOU GUYS. But to do that, you gotta join my group:
I'm gonna try and have tournaments, events, contests, what have you and KEEP THIS THING GOING INTO SOMETHING AWESOME. ALLCAPS. I swear I feel like a used car salesman sometimes on these things...
RIGHT. But yes! Please go check it out! It should have everything you need to know th

Art4Love, blah blah blah.I'm sure many of you are aware of the Art4Love.com drama floating about. How this Chad Love fellow stole the works of many artists from here on deviantART, including myself, and was selling them for ridiculous amounts of money, claiming they were oil paintings, even shipping them with a certificate of authenticity.Art4Love, blah blah blah.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway, there seems to be some ridiculous responses going around to this. I'm not going to call anyone out by name, but a certain deviant has taken it upon himself to ask for donations in order to hire 'the best copyright lawyer' and pursue a 'class action lawsuit'. This in my opinion is a bullshit move, as any copyright lawyer worth his weight would probably take on something this big and blatant for a percentage with no upfront fees to begin with. It's pretty clear cut copyright infringement on a massive scale.
I personally think this deviant jumped the gun and instead of taking a moment to think about the situation, figured he'd get everyone riled up and paying for his la
I need a huge favor...For those of you that don't know (which most of you don't) my boyfriend and I have been together for over 5 years...online. Thanks to skype we are on webcam everyday and every night, literally we fall asleep with each other (silly right? but sometimes it helps my security issues :/). This past February I finally met him for the very first time, he came up here. He saved up and spent his hard earned money to come see me (and the Swedish House Mafia concert of course!) And I felt like I had fallen in love all over again, it was breathtaking, unbelievable, extraordinary. But unfortunately it only lasted a week. A week of full love and bliss. All good things really do come to an end I guess, or do they? Eventually he went back to Texas, thousands of miles away and it was back to online. That was the hardest few weeks of our lives. Now it's my turn to come see him. But with what money? I have no job...I'm a full time student with over 11k in student loan debt. That's when I found thisI need a huge favor...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Trying something new: Battle MapHey guys, the next piece I'll be doing is a 2-D "battle map" of the solar system using a grid, a bit like for an actual board game. The main focus will, however, be on the lighting of the piece and on me trying to get a good variety of space dust, ice asteroids and normal asteroids into the piece, as well as guaranteeing that each planet's / each zone's placement make sense on the "playing field".Trying something new: Battle Map2 years ago in Personal More Like This

3D-printing!Been a bit busy lately. Last year me and 2 friends founded a company and started to build the foundations for a web based 3d-printing service. Early this year we managed to get funding to the project now we are developing our services which will enable people to order plastic parts directly from our site. The technology we use is called selective laser sintering, basically it means that plastic parts are built from layers of nylon powder by melting the desired shape with a laser.3D-printing!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I made a little video demonstrating the process here: LINK
It has been very hectic and after some troubles we finally got our systems up and running and we have been producing plastic products for about 3 months now. The project is keeping me very busy and I haven't had much time to post anything here in deviantart, but dont worry, I have some CGI projects going on too
Our company is called Materflow and the web page is
