I drew this picture of Obama and originally i was going to draw Mitt Romney as well but decided not to since the election ended around the time i finished this one, was too late! so this is done in Pen and Ink on Art board i was originally going to add watercolor to it but messed but because i thought i picked watercolor board when i didnt ohh well!
So if anyone Hates Obama please no nasty comments, im up for discussion but if you just have a negative comment please dont bother, it is a piece of art and negative comments will be offensive.
During the Victorian period, Perraults tale was deemed to improper and too frightening for the mild bourgoise <---sp? child, so it was re-written with a focus on obedience. Law-abing/school/straight path vs bohemian underground/gypsy/outlaw. You will see the composition is split into 2 sides. 1st appearance of the woodcutter symbolising authority, straight, lined up trees vs the curvy path of the bohemians. the 'gypsy' wolf trys to tempt Red to the 'dark-side'
other social symbolism: building in the background= french barracks/napoleons invasion of Germany. Germany is all about protecting national security at this point and the tale reflects this. oh and Red is like a symbol of the nation being 'corrupted' by france/gypsies etc (she carries the prussian flag over her basket)
***UPDATE 11-19-12 To everyone that has commented and fav'ed this piece, thank you. But really...there are better Animal Farm inspired pieces here on DA. Go check them out too...
To everyone that has commented on the use of the Cyrillic font - Ok, I get it. It was a bad choice. I agree. I did this 5 years ago so RELAX! If I were to do this today, I would choose a different font. Ok? Ok...
this is a propaganda poster for one of my all time favorite books, george orwell's animal farm. this poster illustrates the initial belief that all animals are equal. this is before the pigs, lead by napoleon gained control and declared that all animal are equal but some are more equal than others. I might do one illustrating that belief at a later date.
***i chose to use a cyrillic looking font as part of this design because the book is, in many ways, a commentary on post-revolution russia and totalitarian governments.
the symbols in the corners are part of the official animal farm flag as described in the book and in the cartoon.
