Inked commission to Kairoe on FA of his girlfriend's ever so handsome werewolf character Garou. Enjoyed working on this very much - it's always a pleasure to get to draw some snarly and fluffy werewoofs!
I had the joy of starting a completely new sketchbook and this is the first thing that popped on it.
Sometimes I feel pretty bummed out by the fact that I haven't found a coloring style that feels fun and "me", but then I grab a couple of my trusted ink pens, do something like this and I don't even miss colors.
Takka's marriage with Anakka wasn't a particularly happy one. He loved her and she probably loved him too at some point, but they had to live separated and every time they saw each other, they'd get into really serious arguments over pretty much anything. When they ended up resorting to violence, which was pretty often because werewolves are violent creatures, Takka was always careful to keep his claws and teeth off of his wife so he wouldn't hurt her. An wasn't so gentle and she'd often bite and scratch him, usually not enough to leave a permanent scar but still.
This particular fight, he won, and he has a scar on his shoulder to remind him of the one whole summer he was able to spend with his son. They were the best few months of his life even though he was in pain because of a cracked clavicle.
I really like how this sketch came out. I might ink and colour it if/when I have time.
One of a series of black and white illustrations for a fantasy RPG guidebook.
This was one of a couple of "tall" pieces intended to take up half a page (the other half would then have text put in. There's so many depictions of werewolves out there and for me they usually vary on a sliding scale from okay to god-awful (a notable exception being when gary oldman appears as that wolf/man/thing in Bram Stoker's Dracula, that one's terrific, go figure) There isnt really any solid consensus in either monster movies or the folktales that preceded them as to whether a lycanthrope turns into straight up wolf, or just a wolf-like creature. I personally prefer the idea of werewolves just turning into wolves, and I think of this guy as being in mid transformation still, but I wanted to leave it open.
