Luna, don't make me have to use the Elements! You're better than this, I know you are! Everyone enjoys the night sky, but even ponies need to rest! They appreciate what you do!
No, sister. We... do not believe what you are saying is true...
Celestia had just entered her study and removed her shoes when a guard had dashed into the room, stammering something nearly incoherent about her sister, Luna. Concerned, Celestia quickly went to see what was wrong, and was met with a horrible sight. A mare with a coat as black as ink, and an ethereal mane filled with softly twinkling stars, stood before her. She called herself 'Nightmare Moon'.
I decided to test a new shading style, just to see how it would turn out, and I think I like it quite a bit more than the style I used before. Everything just seems... cleaner. Regardless, I think I may stick with this style, or even jump back and forth between this one and the softer shadows.
Seeing as I haven't really drawn Celestia in great detail lately, much less in a somewhat dynamic pose, I chose her as my subject for this drawing. Her light coloring, plus her wings, horn, and jewelry, let me really practice my shading.
I pictured Celestia as the artillery and Luna as the close combat specialist.
The blade infront of her is the Star, the one on her flank is the Lunar Sickle. To make things clear, none of these are to be wielded using ones mouth. There are no handles or hilts, just insanely sharp edges.
Why is the chest thing holding the Star? Answer: magic armor, it is part of the set bonus Now she can use her magic on other things, such as throwing her sickle around. But seriously, horn glow would have fudged things up, so I went with the lesser of four evils. The third option having it just hang there with no effects at all. The fourth... having her hair hold it?
Big thanks to the guys on the Minecraft Forums pony thread for the early feedback.
So what to do next?
Note: A few people seem to think I got/took some design ideas from the game League of Legends, this is NOT the case. Please don't assume I steal designs just because they look similar. If I ever borrow design ideas I will be sure to give credit where credit is due. Thanks!
