Eight years ago (almost to the day) I did something I never thought I would willfully do. I stepped in front of a still camera.
I had been inspired by a small group of people who were doing something I had not realized ANYONE did back then; they were providing references for other artists to use in the creation of beautiful, wonderful, exciting new works of art. They were contributing to the creative processes of artists of all skill levels in, literally, every corner of the world. I thought then (and I still do) that the concept was one of the most fantastic things I had heard of.
I'm still not sure why I decided to take that picture (the one below), other than hoping that I might be able to give a little something back to the visual artists who had inspired me for so much of my life.
Eight years later; same shirt and same knife (two of my dearest possessions, many stories attached to both), but a fairly different me.
Mainly, I just wanted to take a minute to say 'Thank You' to every one of you. You all have taught me so much. About creativity and collaboration and technique, certainly, but much more importantly about friendship and support and community. I wouldn't be the person I am today without you all, and for that I will always be very grateful.
So here's to another eight! (Sixteen? Hmmm, might be pushing it. Not sure I'll be able to fall on my head as much. But I guess I could take shuffleboard shots). Can't wait to see what you guys create in the years to come.
Wide-angle scenery of an old war tunnel from the Marin Headlands located in Golden Gate National Park near San Francisco, California (USA). HDR composite from multiple exposures captured and color-processed variant of this same scene to communicate the concept of finding light at the end of an otherwise gloomy tunnel.
This picture is also available for download at 5000 x 3333 px for a small premium of 50 points. Most everything else including my stock rules remain the same, except this premium download gives you access to a much larger version of the picture without watermark.
This is an older image (1996-1998) taken with a 60's era film camera. Therefor, the quality may not be high enough for some high resolution manipulation purposes. Still great for drawing reference and smaller manipulation projects, though.
PLEASE READ AND ADHERE TO THE RULES IN MY JOURNAL BEFORE USING THIS IMAGE.
