A gown of sorts, this time inspired by the Monarch Butterfly (one of my favorites)!! I wanted this one to look more regal and elegant so that it stays true to it's name!
Since I've been asked about medium multiple times, I'll just say here that this piece (along with the rest of the butterfly series and 95% of my gallery) was drawn completely in photoshop CS4 with a wacom tablet. The paper textures are added in afterwards for the traditional feel
Also, since it's already the 22nd where I am, happy thanksgiving to those who celebrate!! Here, have some virtual pumpkin pie! ---
October, as you may or may not know, is breast cancer awareness month! So here's a sketch in honor of that.
My earliest watchers might remember my deviation to this cause from last year, in which I mentioned a friend of mine whose mother was fighting breast cancer. She was the one who made me aware of the campaign and I'm really glad to say that her mom had gone through with the surgery and is fine now! :,D There are however, many women who are still fighting, and although most people are aware of such a disease, most aren't of the early detection plans/ possible preventative precautions and such :T So if you'd like to learn more about the campaign or help with the cause, here's the website! I encourage you all to take a look see! [link]
Tumblr'd here: [link](please reblog instead of posting! )
Here's a dress design, featuring human Toothiana! She has such an awesome character design, how could I not? Her color scheme was fun to work with, as was finding ways to incorporate the wings, plumage, etc! I read through Tooth's backstory and discovered she was originally Southeast Asian, which I tried to show here. The story was really interesting, but kinda made my heart all sad :C.. Somehow I didn't expect Tooth to have a dark history I read her story here: [link] but beware of possible spoilers and sorrow..
On a more cheerful note though, I watched rotg yesterday and I loved it! I felt that the plot pacing could've been better, but the character designs, overall theme, and ANIMATION just completely blew me away!! :,D Yeah.. I'm quite obsessed right now :T.. expect more rotg from me XD
Here's Starling, a character from my story the Valiant and the Vain! oh wow.. I should really update the plot O: Anyway, Short description time!!
Starling is Auberon's sister and although she had no involvement whatsoever with Auberon's wrongdoings, she was also cast under the spell. Instead of turning into a peacock during the daytime like her brother, she turns into a starling bird. Like the bird, she can very accurately mimic any sound/ action and uses it to her advantage (such as mimicking Felix's cry to lead Laurebelle to their fortress.) She later becomes one of Laurebelle's closest friends. Starling doesn't actually have wings by the way.. it's just metaphorical of what she morphs into
Also, I think I've decided to give all my characters their own little dremzle! Because everybody needs their own dream guardian right? plus I just like drawing those cute fluffies ^.^ So the little floating creature is Starling's dremzle xD (more on dremzles here [link])
I actually really love drawing super long flowing hair, if you couldn't tell already! XD Believe it or not, this started out as Marceline fanart, but I got carried away with the colors and somewhere along the way, she lost her clothes. Oops. :T So now I guess it's just a random drifting gal? xP
Also, a wip version of this design was used as our school's magazine cover! : [link]
So here are the career girls, before the chariot rides or the interview with Caesar I suppose From left to right: District 4 (fishing): This one was my favorite to draw/ design! I knew the color scheme I wanted to use, but I couldn't decide whether I wanted to stick with the water or fish theme. So I tried combining the two by liquifying the sleeves and.. fish-ifying the skirt. C: District 1 (luxury): I wanted this one to give off a more elegant vibe. Initially, it was just going to be a long dress with a halter top, a sparkle overload, and a very simple white-ish color scheme. I stuck with the first two plans, but then I got inspired by the grapefruit I was eating, hence the colors. :T District 2 (masonry): I was debating whether or not I wanted peacekeeper elements in this one, but decided against it and went all lithic. It was actually really fun to design :,D I'm just not sure how it'd ever be made into a real dress.. though I suppose through an excessive amount of wires it could work? They aren't in order, obviously : P. I just lined them up in the order I thought looked the best.
This was actually a commission, done for somebody I met over an internship! She doesn't have da :C But she's a HUGE hg fan; she saw some of my fashion sketches, liked them, and asked me to draw this, with herself as one of the models! (She's the masonry gal and yes, that hair is a pretty accurate portrayal! :,D) I've already sent the unwatermarked versions over, but in case she ever checks this… Melenie Yin, thanks again for commissioning me and giving me the opportunity! Now I'm tempted to draw the rest of the districts!
Yay more random clothing designs! At first, I was planning on drawing ladies from those good ol' black and white films with matching black and white dresses.. but then this happened instead It's still loosely based off the idea though! Oh well! I had meant to challenge myself with some color shading so
