Good vs. EvilGreetings all!Good vs. Evil11 months ago in Philosophical More Like This
This post comes as the conclusion to my two-part ending for July (albeit a little late, perhaps). In this post, I intend to take on a notion which is widespread in the United States, but is also found in just about any country. We like to think of everything within the bounds of black and white, good and evil, and nothing more. There are innate problems with this system, and the very fact that we let it exist obstructs much of our policy efforts.
As stated, we like to see politics through a lens of “this is either one thing, or the other, and nothing in between.” We can see it in many of our mantras: if you’re not with us you’re against us, we do not negotiate with terrorists, etc. We enjoy the simple nature of having to choose between two options; this allows us to avoid having scary things like complex situations arise. The biggest problem with this is that the world does not work this way. Things are not so black and white, and in fac
From Democracy to CommunismA greetings to all my readers! From Democracy to Communism2 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
This week begins my practice of adressing a larger issue each month with a larger debate. This month's big issue, after much pressuring, is my ideology of communism. I have been consistently asked to explain why I believe in communism. The reason I can't give an answer for that question on the spot is because it is a ridiculously long answer, which takes a while to say and would bore the common listener. As such, it is both easier to compose and read here on my deviantart account. By the way, this week's quote is by Leon Trotsky, a famous Russian communist advocate back in the days of Lenin. After Lenin died, T

This post comes the weekend after the United States election, in which president Barack Obama was re-elected by a comfortable electoral margin. Many state ballot measures were also voted on, giving various failures and successes to both liberal and conservative movements in America. In good news, gay marriage laws have been approved in Maine and Maryland, while a Minnesota ban was removed. Colorado and Washington legalized recreational marijuana use for those of age, and Massachusetts now allows weed for medicinal purposes. A ballot measure in Florida against Obamacare failed, while similar measures in Alabama, Wyoming, Montana, and Missouri
Hate Without ReasonPeace, justice, equality. Things Americans are proud to die for. But Communism? They don't even want communists around them, let alone die for their system. But why? If people actually read the Communist Manifesto, perhaps they'd find out that their government was tricking them. That they were being lied to. That the people who have been ripping them off and exploiting them are now scapegoating and forwarding hate and aggression to innocent people who want the best for their citizens.Hate Without Reason7 months ago in Philosophical More Like This
I'm of course going to refer back to Red Terror of the 1950's. The US was blacklisting accused Communists and doing inhumane things to them, but why? Because

As the latter piece of my two-part work for May Day, I am now posting on the successes and needed improvements of organized labor outside the U.S., particularly Europe. This comes after the first May Day posting for this year about labor in America, which I highly recommend reading before progressing to this one.
We'll start our look at labor rights in Europe, a continent which has had substantially better records for labor relations throughout the decades in comparison to us, but still has much to do. This standard applies especially to the European Union due to the E.U. debt crisis and subsequent responses across the region. Ho

A recent rain left the city feeling even more damp and mildewed than usual. Puddles gathered
on the decaying sidewalks and in the potholes of the street. The wet ground reflected the light of the
overhead electric signs with hazy and dull splotches of color. What few cars were on the street at this
hour drove slowly to avoid the dilapidated sections of the road.
Hopey backed into the door to the 24-hour market and pushed it open with her hips, knocking
the bell on the lintel. As she stepped onto the street, she pulled in a deep breath of muggy air. The

Many Christians wonder how anyone could doubt the existence of God, but it turns out it's right in the bible. If you read between the lines, it tells you there's no God
1) The bible claims that God sacrificed Jesus for our sins. (John 3:16, Romans 3:25, Ephesians 5:2, Hebrews 9:26) (This is ignoring Deuteronomy 24:16 and Ezekiel 18:20, which state that everyone is to be responsible for their own transgressions without anyone else dying for their sins, thus undermining the primary basis of Christianity.)
2) Since Jesus is God (2 Peter 1:1, John 10:30-33, and other verses), premise 1 means tha
