MinecraftI just got Minecraft and holy hell is it addictive. I've played around with the iPhone app before (building stuff with infinite blocks with no enemies to fear), but I wasn't prepared for how addictive the full version of the game actually is.Minecraft3 years ago in Personal More Like This
To my credit, I had a little help before starting the game by using a seed which spawned me in the middle of a NPC village, thus giving me shelter and resources to survive my first few treacherous nights. But after a few days had passed and I got used to the controls and crafting, I ventured out and built my own little hut and started digging away.
The first few nights were exceptionally scary, even though I was in a nice safe house. But gradually I learned that Creepers are less creepy to me now than they are simply annoying, and I find myself being more creeped out by those ominous Ender Men.
After digging a very inefficient hole near my house and gather up more resources (cobblestone) than I could handle, I decided to venture out and build a bi

I've thought long and hard and have decided to change it toooooo.......
That's right; i'm one of the few artists here on DA that seems content with my name. That; and I think changing a "brand" simply because you can, after you've spent time and energy building up an audience is f**king stupid.
I've been here for years. I've operated on the internet under "jollyjack" for longer. If I changed that now it would be monumentally confusing to people that follow my work, which, in turn, would have an effect on revenue.
There are a ton of artists here whose work I keenly follow, and I think they're kinda shooting themselves in the foot by doing this.
Kinda reminds be of those little label-making things everyone's been given on at least one Christmas as a kid: you unwrap it, you find out what it does and you spend the rest of the day punching out new tags for everything. Even if they'

Now I know thats a little bit harsh language but this excuse really pisses me off. I'm not angry at the person who uses the excuse "they tell me I can't," I'm pissed at the people who tells the person they can't. Seriously, anyone who says you can't do it is making up shit and doesn't know what they're talking about.
I've heard many different variations of this excuse. "THEY" can be your mother, father, brother, sister, best friend, teacher. "They" can be people on forums, or professionals you've talked to that have their head so far up their ass they forgot what it was like to start out. But no matter who "They" are, the fact of the matter is they don't know anything about what you're trying to do. So what qualifies them to judge if you can do it or not?
What reasons did they give you to back up this wild claim of "you can't do it?" Was it because You don't have the education? the skills? Is
Party PoopersRussian politicians really like trying to associate cultural elements that they personally don’t like with things that are universally frowned upon, in the hope that the latter poisons the former in the public's view.Party Poopers6 months ago in Personal More Like This
During the lead up to the Winter Olympics in February, for example, while large gentlemen with flails were beating the sh*t out of small, female protesters, Putin seemed to make a great effort to always mention homosexuals and paedophiles in the same sentence, as though the two were somehow linked.
I’m not suggesting that politicians elsewhere in the world don’t pull the same trick in order to rally a hysterical mob in their favour, but the Russians do it with all the subtlety of a brick.
In what I’m assuming is less an effort to protect the fragile psyche of Russia’s youth and more an attempt to thwart another dastardly Western concept (namely f
AsexualityAlright, considering that this worked out very well last time and I'm bored I thought that I'd talk about another facet of my personality. I don't know if I would call it unusual, because apparently about every one out of a hundred people are asexual...? Honestly, it feels like a lot less and I'll get into that. For those who don't know, I am an aromantic asexual. You can be one without the other, although I don't know how common that actually is. It seems very simple to me and a very easy concept to grasp: people who are asexual do not have a sexual attraction to people of either gender, and people who are aromantic do not desire a romantic relationship with either gender. But honestly, anyone who has gone through middle school can tell that... life without sexual goals, desires, or interests is very different. Literally every conversation I had in the seventh grade was this:Asexuality2 months ago in Personal More Like This

This topic is about rates and wages that an artist should start to consider when taking on a new job. This is my advice, so take this as advice.
So let’s begin. As an artist you should know right away that you are valuable. You can recreate people’s imagination and ideas into reality. You are the one who brings people together to be able to all see the vision for the final product. This is valuable. Keep this in mind when you take new jobs. Think about how many hours you plan on slaving over iteration after iteration. Because even though you may have a voice, if you agree to whatever the arrangement are, you must live up to their standards. So make sure you are paid well.
Imagine a client asks you to do 50 hours of work for only $500 dollars. That’s $10 an hour. That is not enough. You can go get a job that could pay you as much if not more, without being an artist. I’ve seen people’s salaries as low as 30k a year. This is not acc

Many people use the “Epicurean” label to represent a life of luxury and sensual pleasure. They couldn't be more wrong. Epicureanism actually represents moderation and avoidance of things that are painful, such as romantic love. What follows is a further exploration of the Epicurean doctrines.
Epicureansim began in 307 BC and flourished until 529, when Roman Emperor Justinian closed down what remained of the four Athenian philosophical schools, including the Epicurean Garden.
The main crux of Epicurus' philosophy is living to maximize pleasure, minimize pain (and have an attitude of gratitude!), and not doing something bad that would cause something bad to be done to you
in return. (Love thy neighbor is the same concept, it just doesn’t include the retaliation part). “Don't fear god, don't worry about death; what's good is easy to get, and what's terrible is easy to endure.

The Enemy at the Gates, the “Other”, forever lurking in the darkness and plotting an invasion most evil and an enslavement most hideous, is probably the original seminal “narrative” that was born when humans first acq

The Serenely Powerful Art of `yuumei
In the top half of an hourglass, a polar bear and her cub perch perilously atop a wedge of melting ice, its dripping water becoming the "sand" that is inexorably drowning an urban couch potato figure in the hourglass's bottom chamber. The beautiful yet arresting digital painting is "Countdown" by yuumei and it is currently one of the most popular pieces on deviantART. It is "archetypal yuumei" in its perfectly balanced blending of a striking lyrically beautiful visual with an underlying urgent social or political message.
Her specialty is digital art in an anime style, but she often employs traditional watercolors and other elements. Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem

Nuances of an Annual Ritual
Which brings us to each year’s communal celebration of the passing of our lifetimes:
New Year’s Eve
So what did you “actually get done” in the past year? How closer are you to a grand goal in life? An assessment is made and then the inevitable Step 2 of the yearly process is engaged, which is often a word for word repeat of last year’s Step 2:
The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat

I'm not a fan of anime. At least not anime people. The style is too simplistic for me to like fully, I don't see a lot of diversity between artists.
When I started serious drawing, It was because of Warrior Cats (<333)
After the warrior cats phase, I actually wanted to draw sonic art, but I got side tracked when I discovered anthros. If I hadn't discovered them or liked them I think I would have been a well known sonic artist now.
Sometimes I regret starting to draw anthros. I've always wanted to draw sonic style, even since I first fell in love with the gaming saga and the characters' appearances many, many years ago. I think I was about 9? That's like, 5 years ago.
So basically, I really want to switch to sonic style, but It would annoy people ; __ ;

Having read a book on Operation Valkyrie I feel compelled to share it with you.
Stauffenberg and other German commanders like Henning von Tresckow, Ludwig Beck, and to some extent, Friedrich Fromm, devised the plan to assassinate Hitler using pencil detonators confiscated from resistance members, with plastic explosives. The plan was to leave the bomb in a suitcase, near Hitler, planned to explode during a military conference in a bunker in Hitler's eastern Front headquarters, the Wolfschanze or "Wolf's Lair", in Rastenberg, East Prussia. Stauffenberg would've been out of the meeting to answer a fake phone call. Once the bomb exploded, he would've traveled straight to Berlin.
The second phase of the operation was to eliminate the Reic
