Stock Photography: Clint ClemensClint Clemens has long been dubbed the Father of modern Automotive Photography. His work is sleek, crisp, smooth and not unlike the subjects he photographs. One of his most famous shots is titled Kills Bugs Fast. The story behind the image is that Porsche trust him only with the slogan and told him that he had to illustrate the idea himself. So he did. Thus landmark commercial stock photography was created.Stock Photography: Clint Clemens7 months ago in Community Relations More Like This

Not satisfied with the fame for his astounding images, Clint went one step further to explore and figure out how he could photograph cars in his studio, creatively and with limited resources. He made the connection between car and road and realised that's where he belonged, out in the field rather than inside a studio. In 1980 he got the idea (a genius one!) to attach a camera to a car. H

What is Traditional Darkroom? What is Traditional Darkroom? What is Traditional Darkroom?7 months ago in Editorials More Like This
Traditional Darkroom is where it all began. It started in a world where the word 'photography' didn't yet exist and the art of creating images of reality with light and chemicals sat somewhere between science and magic. Did you know that the mathematicians Aristotle and Euclid describe pinhole cameras in the 4th and 5th centuries?
In the early 1800s, artist/inventors like Louis Dageurre and Henry Fox Talbot (among others) experimented with ways of fixing images using chemicals, including silver compounds, following exposures on materials like glass and metal, lasting from several minutes to several hours. By 1840, Talbot was creating negative images using the calotype process and John Herschel had invented the cyanotype process (where the term 'blueprint' comes from) and created the first glass negative in 1839.
In the middle part of the 1800s, the wet plate collodion process be

Today is a day for gratitude -- giving thanks for what you have and what you've been given. It's a time for remembrance and enjoying the company of others. And though Thanksgiving is not celebrated everywhere in the world, being thankful is still important to keep in mind. We're asking you to tell us what you're thankful for! It could be anything -- the people in your life, the weather, your lunch, or, maybe just that it's Thursday, the best day of the week.

“You don’t take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it"
~Anonymous
I read an article this week that said something along the lines of how every moment is a fresh reality. Every now is a beginning. Every now is a chance to restart. With those thoughts came the declaration that we should learn to photograph in the moment rather than work ourselves up into a frenzy of trying to create moments for ourselves. Ultimately I feel that it's a bit of both. This past week I've spent some time doing professional shoots with babies and used them as my photographs of the day. I've then been surprised and a little dejected when the following day, an opportunity didn't just fall into my hands. Sometimes though, it's good to leave the tripod at home, forget the filters and the flashgun and just shoot with free hands, fingers crossed, hoping for the best. Unless, like me, you are prese
Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing HalloweenHalloween brings with it the chance to combine many areas of Photography whether you are presented with a field of pumpkins, decorated houses, close up spooky food creations or indeed infants and children adorned in the cutest of costumes. In terms of vibrancy, fall/Autumn and Halloween combine wonderfully to create a time of color, emotion and interesting subjects. So it's often difficult to know where to start, but the key elements behind arming yourself with the camera don't differ that much from how you should behave day to day when shooting.Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing Halloween8 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
Still Life Photography Tips
Halloween is about the drama and you can capture this and convey it in your images by getting in close and filling a frame with your subject. People or objects alike, getting in close will add a bit more drama to your shots. If you're capturing food and in particular cupcakes or other Halloween treats and desserts then consider making your background Halloween themed too. Orange paper,

Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing FireworksWith the 5th of November looming - and of course Christmas and New Year bringing the opportune moments for fireworks - it seemed useful to put together a small troubleshooting guide for those that are going to venture out with the camera. The 5th of November in the UK is known as Bonfire night - the day when, many years ago, the plot to blow up the houses of parliament was thwarted. Nowadays when officials discover a terrorist plot, they're pat on the back and life goes on. But back in those days, a whole day was set aside for celebrating. And now, in the modern age, up to two weeks are spent setting off fireworks. So first and foremost, if you can - shoot it in RAW mode. It's great for after-tweaking and especially with white balance and sorting out flaws. We're drawing on the expertise of `WhenPigsFry in order to give you as many tips as possible. He's part of a crew that puts on firework displays and thus sadly misses the chance to shoot them a lot of the time. I also like the difficulty of some of these mediums and their diversit

We love creatures of all shapes and sizes. I grew up with dogs and have always loved them as friends and adventure buddies. This concept started out as sketches in my black book, and I worked out many styles.
From foxes to long cats to wolves to simple barking dogs, I was drawing them all in marker, ball-point pen, and pencil. I liked that each of them had a different feeling that was really accentuated by the choice of drawing tool.
During this process, I went to a drawing party, and there was a fun little canine there named Dexter. I considered him for the piece, along with some other dog friends of the same breed. Using brush pens, china crayons, and thick markers, I ended up with a multi-media piece that I think truly captures this little guy’s atti

Art exists across many media, from the very static to the super dynamic. Moving-picture media is a great subject matter, and it is the inspiration for this graphic illustration.
This design began on tracing paper with a sharpie marker as fast and furious lines over a pencil drawing. Knowing that this would be a shirt graphic and wanting to mix up the styles on the collection, I was happy with the drawing but wanted to move a different direction. In searching through images of movie-making and projecting systems, old-school projector technology caught my eye as a relic of times past. It’s all about following the inspiration, and the imagery of this machine that existed as a building block for the film technology we

The VestibuleMy moniker came without conclave, but I quickly cast it aside. Never since has my name been repeated. Who am I? [Answer: Pope Celestine V]
In life, I embraced neither the darkness nor the light. In death, I am nowhere near either and can only run ragged around this outer vestibule, stung relentlessly by hornets for my lack of judgment. But, I digress. Which olive-toned stone might be of the most use to a Witch who wants results that are . . . otherworldly? [Answer: Moldavite]
Under me, He suffered, died, and was buried. I did not believe in His guilt, yet served him unto Death most willingly. For that I must suffer. Who am I? [Answer: Pontius Pilate]

Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing AutumnFor many Photographers, Autumn is now officially here and is one of the most exciting seasons to capture in terms of colour, change and vistas. Early morning mist, late afternoon sun, orange, red and golden hues - Autumn has a lot to offer in many countries. If you're like me, Autumn often arrives all at once and it can be tricky to know how to make the best of the season before it's over. A couple of days of high winds and rain can ruin the best Autumnal captures by ripping the leaves down before you've even got the chance to snap - so it's great to be prepared for the season.Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing Autumn9 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
Leading lines are particularly useful. Yet so many people quote ' Look for leading lines...' or 'You've captured the leading lines here perfectly' and really do we even know properly what they are? The purpose of a leading line is to draw a viewers eye into the photograph and then on a journey - through it. Think of it as a visual narrative. They can be intentional and ind

Traditional Tuesdays #52OMG OMFG OMFG! This is week fifty-two of this little article, and I can honestly say that I didn't think it would last this long. The night I started this feature, I was bored and just browsing around the Traditional Gallery. I was finding all kinds great artwork, that for one reason or another I couldn't/wouldn't give a DD. It could be because they had a DD recently, but mainly it was for a link to go back and see what they created next, and if they took it to the next level. Now it's more for artwork that I no longer have time to DD, I can't DD everything! I still find the article fun to do, and I'll keep doing it until it no longer is. So.... here is fifteen works of art that I thought you should see. I can't trust all of you all with anymore awesomeness, you might hurt yourself!
