Godzilla 2014 Clip - SPOILERSThose following me on Facebook are well aware that I, along with a little over 100 SXSW attendees, were treated to an extended clip from the 2014 movie by Mr. Edwards himself!Godzilla 2014 Clip - SPOILERS11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Man oh man oh shevitz, THAT was a thing, lemme’ tell ya.
Again, it has been recounted in many other places the play-by-play of exactly what went down, but it is impossible to convey the raw awesomeness in words alone. I daresay this flick is gonna’ be a crowd-pleaser. That said, I’ll just run through the highlights of what I saw.
- Aaron Taylor Johnson is escorting a little Japanese boy that I think he’s just keeping an eye on during this segment of the film. Not sure what the story is there, but they’re on a monorail when the power goes out.
- SOMETHING’S going on out in the Hawaiian jungle, and it starts a fire that catches the attention of attendees at a luau. Suddenly, a little girl notices the water from the shore receding…and people start running, because, y’
GODZILLA (2014) review - The Showa Must Go OnGODZILLA (2014) has hit theaters, and for months (years for most Godzilla fans), potential audiences have been anticipating a return to form for the Lizard King - a film that will revisit the themes of the 1954 original and deliver a brooding, apocalyptic story of destruction and doom.GODZILLA (2014) review - The Showa Must Go On8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Instead, what we got could best be described as a sequel to THE TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (1975).
Trust me, I wouldn't begin a review with a hyperbolic, attention-grabbing statement like that without explaining it. For the moment, let us turn back the clock and toss out a quick recap of the film's plot. Obviously, this review will contain a metric crapload of SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS, but you'll complain anyway, so let's get on with this.
After a mysterious event in 1954 regarding the Castle Bravo nuclear test and an unknown giant organism, the story jumps to 1999, where two scientists, Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Graham (Sally Hawkins) are investigating a massive underground tomb in the

Disney closes LucasArtsF**k you, Disney. F**k you.Disney closes LucasArts2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are not angered by this news, you're obviously a very young gamer and probably (rightly) see LucasArts as nothing more than a mediocre-Star-Wars-title-discharging-sewer-pipe.
Disney bought LucasFilm because of the Star Wars cash-cow, but the number of classic IPs produced by LucasArts throughout the 90s makes the descision to close it rather than attempt to return to the studio to its glory days pretty staggering.
I actually see way more potential in LucasArts IPs than Star Wars.....but then, so would anyone with even the most stunted of creative minds.
Disney obviously still own all the properties, but the LucasArts brand is gone, and it's the end of an era, even if they start picking at the corpse for ideas to ruin.

How to make a Godzilla movie, step-by-stepHow to make a Godzilla (or any kaiju) movie:How to make a Godzilla movie, step-by-step8 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is a pattern that I noticed in nearly every, single, Godzilla movie.
1. Introduce minor characters reacting to strange events or anomalies that can't be logically explained.
2. Slowly reveal that the strange events or anomalies are the result of kaiju (giant monsters).
3. Unleash kaiju to wreak havoc upon a densely-populated, major city. Like Tokyo for example.
4. Bring Godzilla or main kaiju in to kick some butt and take some names.
5. Beaten kaiju eventually recovers and/or recruits an ally.
6. All of the kaiju fight again and cause a massive amount of collateral damage to said, major city.
7. Godzilla / main kaiju wins.
How Dino Squad could have been betterI do like Dino Squad, but I will admit it does have its problems, caused, in my opinion, mostly by poor writers. After talking with some people about this show, I decided to write this, though it took me a while to complete. It's a rewrite of the show, attempting to fix some of the problems it had.How Dino Squad could have been better3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So far, I only wrote episode summaries rather than full episodes. I might get around to writing some roughdrafts of the full episodes, if I get enough ideas.
Here's what I came up with-
Veloci and Moynihan come from an isolated valley where dinosaurs lived into modern times. He and Moynihan are the last ones to survive when a mysterious plague wipes the others out. They took up an interest in human science and experimented themselves until they accidentally obtain human forms. Veloci and Moynihan go on seperate paths, with Veloci wanting to bring back the age of dinosaurs and Moynihan wanting to educate humans on how to live in harmony with nature.
Kids get perfect dinosaur forms due to extr

10. Kudo's super-not-creepy 'Hackers'-style computer program (Godzilla x Megaguirus)
So during the fiery climactic battle between the title kaiju, Japan's big black-hole-gun-mounted-on-satellite death weapon is starting to fall apart and re-entering Earth's atmosphere, apparently having been made out of graham crackers and duct-tape. So they bring in super nerd Kudo to fix the problem with his trusty laptop. Right in front of all his fellow 'G-Graspers', he starts up his 'fix-it' program, showing a bizarre chibi version of the female protagonist (Major Tsujimori) in a nurse's outfit. Nobody bats an eye at this, btw, nobody wonders (out loud) why he has such a thing on his computer... or what he does with it in his spare time. His solution to the problem, which will grant them at least one more shot with the Dimension Tide, is to have this (apparently stalker-born

Gamera Guardian Of The Universe and Godzilla 2014.In this writing I'll be comparing the similarities of the first of the Heisei Gamera trilogy, Gamera Guardian Of The Universe (1995) and the recent 2014 film, Godzilla. Several people, myself included, picked up on the similarities of the two movies, so I'm here to point out what I consider to be key resemblances.Gamera Guardian Of The Universe and Godzilla 2014.6 months ago in Personal More Like This
More heroic origins
Gamera in the Showa Era had no definite origin, he was a preexisting kaiju that was simply reawakened by an atomic bomb. Whereas Godzilla throughout all of his appearances has been an irradiated dinosaur. In the new film he was the way he was by absorbing the Earth's natural radiation and is therefore completely natural, therefore giving him a less threatening, apocalyptic origin.
Gamera in the trilogy was reimagined with a directly heroic background, a genetically created turtle born to fight the Gyaos as well as any other enemy of Earth.
In short, both kaiju in their respective reboots are presente

So, basically you all need to drop what you're doing and watch this:
If you're a fan of kaiju flicks, Evangelion, Miyazaki, or hell, just special effects in general, you owe it to yourself to watch this. It's a short film made by Shinji Higuchi (The GAMERA trilogy), Hayao Miyazaki (Everything amazing ever) and Hideaki Anno (Evangelion). And it's nearly ALL PRACTICAL EFFECTS. Some CGI overlays and a few touch-ups and lasers and stuff, but yeah, practical effects. Explosions and miniatures and puppets.

Secondly, this was a hell of a birthday surprise.
Yesterday, it was formally announced that Toho Studios would be reviving their OWN Godzilla film, set to be released in 2016, with production starting in 2015. Speculation abounds on the project, but the biggest question seems to be the focus on CGI or traditional Suitmation. The article cites the recent adaptation of the manga Parasyte as an example of the "high quality filmmaking" that Japan is currently capable of, but given the franchise's tradition of practical effects, and perhaps an unwillingness to appear inadequate when compared to the hundreds of millions spent of American SFX, we may be seeing something akin to Shinji Higuchi's Attack on Titan adaptation - a combination of sparse miniatures, green screening, props, CGI, and suits. One can only hope.

He was an artist you might not know.
But you’ve met his children…
It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead owe their existence to Romero’s original vision.
In 1979, screenwriter Dan O’Bannon craft

What Godzilla: Heritage is:
From an initial idea formed in late 2009, Godzilla: Heritage's concept has drawn the interest of several talented artists and actors - non-fan and fan alike and is now entering pre-production status. The film seeks to return the Godzilla mythology to its darker roots and ground the character and some of its memorable kaiju in an altered continuity that explores a world where they have been a staple of everyday life for almost 60 years. The project will utilize traditional suitmation and miniatures as well as more contemporary effects. The film is a non-profit project . "Godzilla" and all related charac
A New Monster Battle Game?Hey guys - what if somebody, somewhere, was talking about the next big monster fighting game? And we needed YOUR help?A New Monster Battle Game?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here's the thing - with Kickstarter blowing up everywhere, and crowd-sourcing becoming viable, we could get Kaiju fans everywhere to pool their money, and get a game made. Not just any game, though! A game that exactly conforms to what WE, the fans who would pay for it, would want in a Kaiju battle game.
This isn't just idle speculation - Chris Mirjahangir, filmmaker from LA, got in touch with Simon Strange, the mastermind behind the last three Godzilla fighting games. After bringing me in, we all jumped onto Skype, and started banging around about what it would take to create a new, high-profile kaiju battle game. Turns out, "what it would take" is very dependent upon what we, the fans, would be willing to pay for.
So, in all seriousness, and FOR REALS I put out this question: What would you like to see in a new Kaiju battle game, and
The One True King of KingsIt’s amazing how a 60-year-old product of postwar nuclear paranoia can still be so important to people’s lives to this day. I have a lot to thank Godzilla for, so much to the point that, if I had a gun to my head, and had to declare a religion (ANY religion), I’d point at the Big Guy and say “That one.”The One True King of Kings3 months ago in Personal More Like This
That’s right. My god can beat up your god.
Anywho, it’s also amazing to see where Godzilla is now compared to…man, even 10 years ago. And ESPECIALLY 16 years ago. We’ve essentially seen this character tried to be taken down and twisted into something he’s not, and then rise from the beaten, bruised ashes only when a meek British director reminded everyone that we just need to step back and let him be Godzilla.
A favorite quote of mine, from the series, is the line from Godzilla and Mothra: Battle for the Earth (1992).

True Beauty. It wasn't so long ago when it all happened. Oswald Kremlin, a plastic surgeon for models, loved his work greatly. He made a handsome living, he married a beautiful woman named Sheila, and was renown through out the world of fame. However even with all this, he felt empty, as though something is missing. A late afternoon pasted by and business was slow, Oswald was bored and was considering what he was doing with himself. Though he was a plastic surgeon, he had studied a wide field of medical arts, though plastic surgery was the only field he was accepted in. The front desks' bell rang, a customer had came in, a usual named Cyndy Faustus looking to improve herself in any way she could. "Ah , w-well hello Ms. Faustus, what brings you hear?"
