to feel the sun-soaked cloud-dew frosting my eyelashes.
I want a piano playing in the foreground,
no sound but hammers striking strings:
the deep chords of my heart clambering to be heard.
I don't want to breathe, or sing,
I just want to play that melody like its involuntary.
Back bent, fingers trembling, I'm trying to remember how to cradle A sharps;
Rust turning my palms bronze and dust twanging from half-step flat strings.
It doesn't matter anymore, that white-and-gold instrument is chipping away
to dark-mahogany static and the voice box buried beneath those organs has
eroded to frequencies.
I want the Wind tangling his frost-bite fingers into my hair,
the flurries whistling across the canals delved between my vertebrae:
tickling, whispering secrets from sea
