Lament of a princessThe sky was bright orange. The sun had been setting for the past few minutes now and it's fading light was creating a spectacular scene. A grassy hill, in the middle of a beautiful flower-filled field. Atop the hill, a single oak tree, probably a hundred years old.Lament of a princess3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
But it was next to the tree where the truly important sight was. It was a stone. Old and worn, with etchings on one side. As the sun's light began to dim, a figure approached the stone. An alicorn, with dark blue fur and a mane that contained the very night sky.
She approached the stone and gently sat down. Her gaze never left the etchings, which had been partly obscured by moss and ivy. Carefully, making sure not to damage thje stone, she used her hoof to brush the plants away, revealing the markings more clearly. As she looked upon them, her expression, which until then had been fairly stoic, eventually began to morph into one of pain. Her eyes shut tightly as they began to well up.

"Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were two Regal Sisters who ruled together, and created harmony for all the land.
To do this, the eldest used her unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn; the younger brought out the moon to begin the night.
Thus, the two sisters maintained balance for their kingdom and their subjects, all the different types of ponies.
But as time went on, cracks appeared between the two sisters.
The younger sister became resentful. The ponies relished and played in the day her elder sister brought forth, but shunned and slept through her beautiful night. Her jealousy grew as she dwell longer and longer in her elder sister's shadow.
The elder sister meanwhile became consumed by a different darkness: out of everything else, she only desired to protect her subjects from any and all forms of harm. As her desire became an obsession, she come to see her younger sister's night as one of the things that caused it to them the most.

The sky began to dim as the fiery orb descended upon the horizon. Within moments, it was gone, and the land of Equestria was now deprived of it's light and warmth. There was a time when that would be the end of Celestia's daily duties, but these days, there was one final task she had to perform. Turning around, she now faced the east.
Closing her eyes once more, her horn began to glow again as she focused her power into moving yet another important part of the world. Slowly, the pale white orb rose above the eastern horizon until it hung gracefully in the night sky. What followed was a swarm of tiny dots of light which surrounded the orb and the blackn
One Year LaterPrincess Celestia walked slowly and quietly into her private chambers late one night. She moved purposefully to the one window in the room. Moonlight was showing through, casting a faint white glow about the room. As soon as it came into sight, Celestia's eyes were focused on the moon. She stood in front of the window, staring up at the glowing orb. Her head lowered and her eyes closed as her horn begins to gleam brightly. She was concentrating hard, and her eyes squeezed tighter as she tried to focus.
Celestia found herself on a gray and barren world. Did the spell work correctly? Did I transport my full self instead? Celestia wondered to herself. She looked down, noticing that she was transparent. However, she quickly became a bit more solid, gaining her white coat and looking every bit like her real counterpart.
She looked around, but there was n

I held in a growl watching Fluttershy panic in fear as she tried another loop. That pegasus is such a scaredy pony. It had been just about the same thing for the past hour or so. I'd demonstrate the trick Fluttershy would try, she'd panic, fall down, and whimper how sorry she was for failing. She's a pony that you can't seem to stay mad at, but she could be really aggravating at times, though.
Seriously though, I shouldn't be complaining. I was the one that had taken a day off weather duty to spend some time with Fluttershy and teach her a trick or two. But all she seemed to learn so far was a half loop, and how to fall without breaking anything.
Fluttershy sat on the ground, shaking her mane to cover her face. She was obviously embarrassed.
"Its okay, Fluttershy. You put in a great effort. It just takes practice." I had to hold back a choke at grea
Uncharted: Applejack's journey- Chapter 1'Come on AJ, get up. It was just a little ole train crash. You've been in worse. Now get up!' thought Applejack as she writhed on the ground. Sharp shards of gravel were digging into her skin as rolled onto her stomach, wincing as a bolt of agonising pain shot up her arm from her left wrist. Opening her eyes, she saw just how much devastation the train crash had actually caused; trees all around her were ablaze or completely torn out of the ground after the carriages of the train had crashed into them. Applejack got to her feet, instinctively placing her hand over the bloody wound in her side. With a groan she gripped the shard of metal that had embedded itself in her abdomen. She took a few deep breaths before tearing it out, crying out at the same time. She gritted her teeth against the pain, throwing the three inch long piece of shrapnel on the ground as she started to walk.Uncharted: Applejack's journey- Chapter 13 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This

It had only been three days since she and her friends had arrived in the city, and thus only three days since her colt-firend, Dusk, had asked her that very important question. Twilight decision was not something that she regretted. On the contrary, it made her all the happier. But now that she'd made her decision, there were many things that needed to be sorted out. And one of those things was exactly why she was walking down the city's main street.
For as she continued down the road, she eventually came upon her destination. The royal palace of Canterlot. This place had, during much of her upbringing, been like a second home to her. And it always made her happy to see it. Walking up the main stairs, she eventually came upon the massi

My dearest Luna,
We thank you for
The Moon you raise,
And the stars
In the evening sky
As the jewels in

My noble princess,
You are not shunned,
We hide not from
The night you bring;
You are the peace
In the enveloping darkness,
Protecting us from harm.
We beseech you:
Raise the Moon
And bathe your kingdom
In it's fair light.
Keep your people safe
In your humbling night.
And only rest your weary head
When your sister
Brings forth her light
And reclaims her righteous day.

She did so with great pain, but there was no room for doubt nor hesitation.
And then, she waited.
She might have felt her heart torn to pieces. She might have wanted the earth to split apart and swallow her whole. She might have wished to share her sister's fate...
... but Equestria still needed her, so she waited.

The air was cool and there were many stars tonight, all surrounding a crescent moon. The door had led them to the balcony of the castle's tallest tower, which Luna often used for private flights out of the city.
"I appreciate you concern Captain, but this is a personal matter I must attend to myself. I require nor desire anypony following me right now." She replied.
Shining stopped as the Queen continued forwards, spreading her wings and ready to take off. She stopped however when her captain spoke once more.
"Does this have something to do with my sister?"
She furled her wings again and turned to face him, her expression cold.
"And what makes you think that Captain?" She asked.
Shining's eyes narrowed somewhat, though not

Chapter 5: A Day at the Spa
Lowering herself slowly into the steaming hot tub, Fluttershy let out a long, content sigh while she sank into complete relaxation. Once she had adjusted to the rapid temperature change, she could feel every muscle in her body loosen while she closed her eyes and laid her head back. She needed a day where she could just unwind without having to worry about picking up the kids from school or anything else, and the spa was just what the doctor ordered.
“This feels more amazing every time I come here,” she told Rarity, who sat across from her. “I didn’t even realize I was this tense.”
“You never can,” Rarity replied. “It’s just the stresses of life, I suppose. Sometimes you get so busy in the chaos of the day that you forget how much pressure you’re building up inside. That’s what the spa is for!”
Fluttershy could easily agree on that. Even though it was hard to believe that they had

Twilight shivered as the doors swung closed behind her with a thud. The frigid mountain wind whipped against her, sending daggers of icy pain through her coat. Wincing, she lowered her head and trudged forward. Snow crunched under her hooves as she pushed forward through the gale, freezing her hooves until the feeling went from them. Wind-blown snow lashed against her coat and mane, clinging to her.
Ahead loomed a series of switchbacks leading to the summit. Twilight sighed and lit her horn, a light purple sphere surrounding her and blocking out the violent wind. I should have brought a cloak, she thought, shivering as the cold permeated the shield. Still, she forced her hooves to move, and started up the rocky trail. "This better be worth it," she muttered, trudging upwards despite her worries. As she climbed, the path narrowed until she was forced to press herself against the mountain face and slowly shuffle along.
She kept her eyes trained on the path ahead, knowing what view

A muffled, sleepy grunt came from under a dark purple comforter.
"Vinyl? Are you up?"
The comforter groaned again. The longer grunt had anger laced within it's lack of syllables.
"You sound awake."
"Why ASK me if I'm awake if I look like I'm sleeping still?" Vinyl spat into her pillow. She was unsure if her irritation was at Lyra or her sudden lack of being asleep. She assumed the former.
"Well, you could have had your eyes closed but been awake."
"Or... or I could have been SLEEPING." Vinyl sighed and pulled the blankets off of her head. "What do you want, Lyra?"
"Well, I want to talk."
As Vinyl pushed herself to an upright position, she noticed her mane was matching its electric color with its style. She shook her head and almost perfectly, her mane sunk down in a classic Vinyl 'do. The DJ cast a hard glare towards Lyra but felt the ice melt off of her heart a bit as she took in the sight. "It's hard for ponies these days to imagine what it was like back then. If they were dropped into this time before Equestria, it'd be unrecognizable to their eyes."
Excerpts from the Candid Sayings of Celestia as recorded by her friends
Whip Scar chewed with his head low and his eyes peeled in the soft moonlight. Tension filled his every muscle and he wandered amidst the herd aimlessly. Deep in the wilds of the wide, wide forest known as Everfree, the simple herd of ponies grazed the grasses in the fields that sometimes broke the expanse of trees. They, too, were tense though they did not show it.
Foaling was a dangerous time for all. During the first few hours of life, a foal cannot walk. Predators sought those times. They preferred not to attack the strong or swift, it did a carnivore no good to pit themselves against the best when all they wanted was a meal. They liked their prey helpless, be it sick, old, or simply unaware. There was nothing so helpless as a new

It was a warm and sunny midmorning, ponies of all sorts happily trotted along the cobblestone streets of the most magnificent city in the world. There was to be an extravagant gala later this evening and ponies from all over the world had come to attend it. After all, the richest and most famous ponies were all going to be there, especially the richest and most famous of them all; the one and only Princess Celestia. This was a party that was truly a must come for all.
"It's so wonderful to finally have you here, Princess Celestia."
"Please, Commander Chiton. The pleasure is all mine. I cannot wait until we arrive at the gala. I have no doubt it will be one to remember."
"I'm glad you're so enthused, Princess. I can't say the same for myself though. I've been having these odd dreams as of late, and I haven't been able to sleep very well. If there's anything I remember well from the oracles' teachings, i
A New Moon The morning couldn't have been more beautiful. With Philomena at her side, Celestia looked out over her kingdom. On this warm summer day, the birds were singing and the sun was shining brightly on every stallion, mare, colt, and filly in all of Equestria. The mere nature of the day alone had put everypony as far as the eye could see in a good mood; except her. Celestia hadn't really cared much about even the loveliest of days in a long time. She'd seen so many, it seemed saying 'what a nice day' was almost a joke. "The wine is lovely this year, Madame Berry Grape." Celestia gave a short nod to the bowing pony. The wine was, in fact, not lovely this year. It was simply what a princess was supposed to say at the Autumn Equinox Banquet.
At this function, like most, the aristocracy played a traditional and subtle game of which-pony-was-better-than-which, a ferociously competitive sport of tiny score keeping. If you sit one space closer to the princess, you are one point better. If you wore a dress not haute couture, you lost a point. If your hat had an extra feather, you had an extra point, unless you attempted a power play by foregoing feathers and trying a coiffure done by a famous mane stylist, though that was a risky move. Fumbling through a step on the dance floor was an easy way to lose points, though that was never an issue, since no one ever danced for fear of subtracting their score. Winners were allowed to hold their noses in inc
