The first two chapters basically cover little aspects that you need to know as the story progesses. Please don't let the first two chapter deter you from reading on. Thank you!
"I'm proud of you kid," said Anderson.
"Just remember you were a human before you were a Spectre, you represent all of humanity with your actions," said Udina.
"I won't let you down," said Shepard confidently.
Anderson stepping down and giving Shepard the Normandy? It didn't feel right to her. Pushing papers wasn't his thing but he wanted to give her every chance to succeed in this mission. She knew how much this meant to him and she wasn't going to let

CHAPTER 19: BREAKFAST
Garrus let out a low growl of frustration as his hand slid down and away from the door. He turned to call the elevator and as the doors slid open he mentally went over what he planned for the day: breakfast with Solana, talk to Chakwas and maybe, if he was lucky, he could nail a few minutes with Anderson. He stepped off the elevator and turned toward the direction of the Crew's Quarters. He had a few minutes before he had to get ready to meet Solana and, knowing her, she would probably be late anyway. The doors slid open and his Turian nose immediately picked up the scent of booze, sweat and the stench of vomit. Apparently, the rest of the crew had continued the party after coming

This takes place a few weeks after the Collector Base.
Shepard eased her body into the leather chair in front of her desk, trying to make as little noise as possible in her silent quarters. She didn't have the heart to wake the Turian slumbering under the covers of her bed. Just because she couldn't sleep didn't mean he had to be disturbed. They had gotten together for the past few nights in a row now. A small smile formed on her face as she recalled how Garrus had embraced her tightly after the elimination of the Collector base. She had nearly fallen to her death at that base, but he had saved her life by pulling her up into the Normandy at the last minute. The Commander shook her head to get her thoughts away from the feeling she had had at that t

The doors of Liara's office slid open again.
Still in her chair facing the console, Liara sighed, "Sera, I ."
He cleared his throat, not wanting her to say anything further, making sure she knew it wasn't Shepard.
Liara gasped, quickly turning around in her chair. "Garrus! I I'm sorry. I thought "
"Yes, I know what you thought Liara," he said roughly as he slowly settled into the chair that just held Shepard.
"What can I do for you Garrus?" she said pleasantly.
He wasn't exactly sure what he wanted from Liara but he knew he wanted answers. Shepard hurrying so quickly from Liara's office alarmed him. He felt he no longer had the right to ask what was wrong. Ever since their meeting on Menae he so desperately wanted to talk to Shepard hear her voice again anything. It was impossible because she had conveniently made herself busy and was never alone, surrounding herself with people. When he thought he finally had the opportunity, she was a

Title: In Another Life
Game: Mass Effect
Disclaimer: Bioware owns anything associated with Mass Effect. I only own the plot.
In another life, things would be different.
In another life, there would be no more war; only peace. There wouldn’t be any more heartache; only love and happiness…..There wouldn’t be any more death; just the feeling of you in my arms again. In another life, you’d still be here with me, alive, well, and looking up at me with a smile so bright that it could outshine any sun.
I’d give anything-my heart and soul, everything I am and would ever be-just to have the smallest of chances at another life with you in it.

Shepard rounded the corner and headed towards Liara's office, carefully avoiding the Main Battery. She wasn't in the mood to have that inevitable conversation. She picked up her pace a little bit praying the Battery doors didn't open. They didn't. She breathed an audible sigh of relief as she walked through Liara's door and felt the doors quickly slide shut behind her.
"Shepard you can't avoid him forever you know." Liara said without looking up from her terminal.
Crap. How did she know? Was it that obvious?
"What are you talking about Liara?" she asked, trying to pawn off the best nonchalant voice she could muster.
Liara leaned back in her chair turning around to give her dear friend a knowing look.
"What?" Shepard said again; palms up in feigned innocence.
"Don't give me 'what?' You know very well what I'm talking about."
Shepard sank into a nearby chair and leaned back closing her eyes. Liara was the only one who knew what happened between

Liara glanced to Kolyat with a sigh; the younger drell was busy across the small room, typing into the keyboard of the computer hub that served as pretty much the only piece of equipment inside the otherwise bare chamber.
The asari noticed his hands were shaking, though his expression was grim and almost completely still, revealing nothing of his all too clear distress.
"How are you getting along?" she asked casually.
"Almost hacked in; their encryption is ridiculous and there aren't as many cameras as one would expect a place like this would have," he replied a bit tersely.
"Kolyat take a moment, if you need it," Liara said calmly, hoping not to sound too patronizing.
The young drell stopped with his work, turning to shoot her a dark look. "I can't; my father might be somewhere down there. We need to breach these bastards' network so we can look for him; Shepard might need the help too," he groaned, the last words clearly an afterthought-or an attempt to get her to back off,

I loved you.
Thats what he had said.
Kaidan walked slowly down an alley of the Wards back on the Citadel, stopping in front an apartment door. Bringing his hand over the keypad, he typed in a key code.
I loved you.
Thats what he had said to the woman he had been waiting 2 years to see again.
The door opened and Kaidan walked inside, grateful to finally be alone. Throwing his baggage on the floor, he walked over to a desk pulling out it's chair, and sat down.
I loved you.
At first Kaidan didn't know what to think or feel. Happiness? Relief? Anger? Betrayed? To be honest, he still wasn't sure. The moment he seen Shepard back on Horizon, he felt his heart swell with happiness. Happiness, to know his lover was alive... Shepard was alive!
He felt relieved to see she hadn't changed. She was still beautiful... her firey red hair resting against the strong yet feminine features of her face. And those eyes... big, gorgeous, green eyes that made Kaidan feel weak at

Commander Shepard glanced back to the now shut door behind her, not without some apprehension, though she made sure it wasn't visible. The man who had negotiated with her stood by her side, giving her an encouraging, if shifty smile, his comrades moving away to remove their helmets and their weapons as well.
Shepard noticed the neat weapon racks lining the small antechamber that stood just past the entrance to the mining complex; the men seemed to arrange their gear with practiced ease, she thought, which was probably the case. Her escort joined them briefly, setting his own helmet and rifle in one of the spaces before returning to her.
He was older than she had thought, a stately-looking man with a bit of gray in his temples. His expression was grim, though not unfriendly and he had not stopped watching her for a single moment, through knowing, steel-gray eyes that seemed to peer into her soul.
He reminded her a bit of Admiral Anderson, she thought vaguely; the same portly demeanour,
A Week to RememberGarrus was excited as he packed his bags. He was going to spend a week with his father, Aetius, on the Citadel. Garrus had never been there before and he could hardly wait to see it. It had been six months since he had seen his father; his last visit the week of Garrus' tenth birthday. With his father's work at C-Sec, he wasn't able to make it home very often. His mother, Tacita, suggested that father bring him to the Citadel during his week off from school and to Garrus' happy surprise, his dad accepted.A Week to Remember3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
"You all packed?" his mother chuckled as she leaned against the door frame of his bedroom.
"Think so," Garrus chirped.
"Mama, where's daddy?" Solana said sweetly as she entered the doorway.
"He should be here any minute," she replied warmly as she patted Solana's back.
Suddenly, they heard a sound from the living room the sound of a door opening.
"Daddy!" Solana yelled as she ran down the hallway and into the living room. Garrus zipped

Shepard was speechless. The room was deathly silent. Anderson got up and walked over to the glass case behind his enormous desk. He selected a bottle from the third shelf and two glasses. Setting them on the desk, he carefully poured the amber liquid into each of them. He picked up the glasses and walked back over to her. He offered her a glass as he sat down in the chair across from her. She gratefully accepted it, taking a generous mouthful before setting it on the table. The liquid was rich and warm, burning a trail down her throat.
"I'm sorry, Shepard," he offered weakly, studying his glass. "She blindsided me. I had no idea why she came to see me and then she dropped that bomb right before you walked in. What right did she have to use that?! I swear Shepard, if I had known that there was a leak from the inside, I would never have put you there ."
"I know," she reassured him. "What do you think we should do?"
"Well " he started slowly, thinking " it

In reality the best word to describe this dismal ice rock was 'DEAD'! Severe bone-breaking cold and ravenous ice winds howling like hungry predators that want nothing but to jam their sharp icy teeth deep into your flesh were your greeters here. But even all of them together could not compare with the corrosive void that the sight of the crushed ship left in Commander Seidra Shepard`s soul her ship!
Seidra was standing there in the shuttle and watching: even after two years of blizzards the dark burnt parts of the ship were still visible and very well recognizable. Still sat on the briefing room floor, Shepard reasoned that she would have to leave at some point. Unfortunately. She had gotten quite comfortable. And may have fallen asleep for a few moments.
Ah well, she thought, I guess I'll go get ready then. She had mixed feelings. On the one hand, she didn't want to see Thane, let alone spend time pretending to be his girlfriend. Not right now, it was too embarrassing. She didn't want to make a fool of herself. But, on the other hand, she couldn't wait. Hell, if she couldn't be his real girlfriend, why not just enjoy playing pretend?
But what should I wear? She thought as she dawdled towards the lift. What do clubbers wear? Could I get away with combat boots? Probably not.
I have nothing sexy. Should I be considering something sexy? As she trudged out of the lift, into her cabin, she was surprised to see Tali and Kasumi were already there, and her bed was covered in clothes.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought I was in my quarters," Shepard said

Her head was throbbing and the room was entirely too bright as Shepard slowly opened her eyes. She pushed herself up to a seated position and rubbed her forehead. She squinted as she scanned the room there was a glass of water and something else on her desk. She got up and stumbled over to her desk by the glass of water there were two pills and a note. She picked up the note and stared sharply at it...waiting for her vision to focus in.
For the headache. Don't worry, they won't make you forget the best night of your life.
She laughed and picked up the pills. She tossed them back quickly, followed by the glass of water. She did have a fun night but it wasn't the best night of her life - the best nights of her life involved Garrus. Her heart sank as thoughts of him ran through her tired mind.
Shepard walked back over to her bed and laid down. Her eyes were sore and her body felt weak...all energy completely drained from her.

Garrus slowly opened his eyes, adjusting to how bright the room was.
"You're finally awake, how do you feel?" a familiar voice asked.
He slowly turned his head and saw that it was Dr. Chakwas. Confused he looked around the room, a room that looked like the Normandy's med bay. He shut his eyes again.
"What's going on? Where am I? Where's Shepard?"
"It's alright Garrus; you're on the Normandy II, built by Cerberus. Shepard is in command, alive and well."
He was so confused and was drowsy from the meds.
"It's a long story Garrus. When you are feeling better you should find Shepard she'll do a better job of explaining everything. Bottom line is you're alive and Shepard is back."
Shepard is back. The words resonated deep within him. He allowed himself to fall back asleep; knowing the sooner he recovered the sooner he could speak to Shepard.

It didn't take long for Shepard to bring Garrus up to speed. She died, she was brought back to life, she found him and he's been with her every step of the way since. Most of Garrus' questions had to do with Cerberus' intentions. Shepard didn't really have answers she didn't know what was going on herself and she didn't like working for them. She was using it to her advantage though and Garrus knew that no matter what, he could always trust Shepard.
"What about you?" she asked. "How did you end up on Omega?"
Garrus' story was much longer than hers had been. He talked about her death, her funeral
"It was hell Shepard. Without you, there was no one left to take on the Reapers; nobody saw it as a real threat. It was frustrating! I tried, believe me I tried Shepard! I ended up getting so angry that I just couldn't take being on the Citadel anymore.

She could almost feel the stares, but she didn't really care; her entire attention was focused on the screen before her. Absently, she thought she would have done better to take this incoming mail upstairs in her cabin, but it had been too late to do that the moment she read the opening line.
"We have someone you're familiar with "
Normally, she'd have dismissed the transmission at once, consider it a cruel, malicious joke or even a scam-there were a lot of those going round the extranet, after all-but she had instead read through it. And she was sure she had been staring at her screen for a goodly amount of time by now; given she normally didn't stand still for this long, it was no wonder people were getting concerned.
"Everything alright, Commander?" a hesitant voice finally asked and she blinked, recognizing it as her appointed assistant. She had been the one to point her to the unread message a few long minutes ago; she nodded, looking up, trying to seem as fo

"You can kill a Reaper. You came back from the dead. You went through a relay that no one ever has, successfully I might add. You took out the collector base and none of your team was killed. Yet you are nervous about being married to the woman you love? I don't know about you but that seems a little messed up to me." Garrus said. Coiln couldn't stop his hands from shaking.
"I'm not nervous, I'm happy." Colin argued.
"You are not helping." Garrus smiled.
"Want to know something funny?" Colin asked trying to distract himself.
"Everything good that's happened to me has happened to me on the Normandy." Garrus thought about it for a moment.
"I think I can say the same thing. Alright let's get you ready, it's almost time to head down to the Cargo Hold."
"You look beautiful, Tali." Tali looked up to see Kal standing at the door.

"I do not like this place," Javik remarked grimly, pausing, along with Garrus on a small ridge overlooking the mining settlement that was their destination. Both of them took care to keep behind some rocky outcrops that lined the cliffside, keeping out of sight, without either of them mentioning it; they were both soldiers, after all, trained in battle and both their instincts said the same things when it came to staying alive.
"Yes, me neither," Garrus huffed back, leaning out of their makeshift cover to look ahead through the scope of his sniper rifle. The settlement seemed awfully quiet, and he could see no sign of any movement at all, which did very little to reassure him. "There could be a whole army down there, hiding out, waiting for us to walk right into them".
"Small problem, that," Javik shrugged back, motioning towards a small, almost invisible path that seemed to lead downwards and into the neatly arranged group of containers that formed the settlement

Shepard left Mordin's lab and headed for the elevator. She needed to get suited up before they arrived at the Migrant fleet's location to speak to the Admiralty Board.

He did what he could for her, his last love.
And now here he lay, in a hospital bed. His last minutes closing in on him as Kolyat looked at Shepard, waiting for her to say something.
But Shepard couldn't say anything, she couldn't do anything. She had rushed here at once, after the citadel fight was over. The doctors had told her all about Thane; how it didn't look like they could do anything and how she couldn't do anything.

The Citadel was a complete mess. Buildings still had holes in them. The blood of the fallen still covered the walls. But people still lived on as though nothing had happened a few weeks ago, they still went to shop at the local stores, they still went to see the new Blasto movie, and they still gossiped about John Shepard's relationship status.
Maybe he's into Asari, thought some.
Maybe he likes only humans, hoped others.
But they were all wrong. He did not enjoy any of those as mates. No he had preferred the most unbelievable of choices. He had preferred Quarians. Specifically Tali Zorah vas Normandy.

Chapter 22: Deviation
Mordin stopped moving, a remarkable reaction considering the salarian barely stopped for anything including the basics of living. Slowly, his head rose from its customary perch atop his microscope. He scrutinized the turian leaning against his counter. In a split second he analyzed the situation and determined the consequences of the all the possible answers he could provide. The choice before him was simple: duty to Commander’s privacy or duty to Commander’s safety? He also knew that it would only be a matter of time before Garrus figured out what happened. The fact that he hadn’t said anything to Garrus about it until now was cause enough for hi
