I've read in a few journals that a lot of you are having the occasional "Artist's Block". Ya' know... where you stare at a blank sheet of paper for hours and nothing comes out. It happens. I don't know an artist who hasn't went through it. Some more than others.
Anywho, I'd like to share with you, my friends, what helps me get through it and get that pencil moving again.
1.A.) Grab a magazine with pretty girls in it (whatever floats your boat, eh). Find a cool pose and pick one of your characters or some else's character, like Turra Shibata, to draw in that pose.
1.B.) Grab a comic book, graphic novel (Turra: Bombs and Betrayal) or just a cool book you've read (The Last Ride of Sam Hane) and make the character yours. Then see step 1.A.
2.) Pick a song that you would walk out to if you were in the WWE ("Here I Go" - Mystikal) and set it to repeat on whatever media player you have.
3.) Isolate yourself (as best you can especially if you're married and/or have kids)

The Knave had penetrated their ranks, utterly destroying the sanctity that he held dear. How had they found them? He asked himself repeatedly as he continued on his lonely watch. The other strongholds had been taken before, but this one was the most-guarded, well-kept. Only the best and brightest of the Toshigawa clan had been brought here and assigned to one duty: protect the clans most valuable asset, Shinnandrea Toshigawa. Somehow he and everyone else in the clan had failed miserably. The Knave had managed to break through the defenses with such ease, with no detection. They had taken Kristin and left Tochie for dead. ... Ten minutes from the Angel Falls city landfill...
It had not taken very long for the AFPD's Special Crime Unit to assign a trio of squad cars to head over and check out what they had heard from the guards and security forces over at the juvenile detention center and at the state penitentiary, since both buildings were in close proximity to the landfill's location. Reports of flashing lights, intense bursts of fire and energy, and powerful vibrations felt in the air and seen in the skies over the landfill had to be investigated as quickly as possible, and if indeed meta-humans were involved, the SCU had already assigned one of their top officers to follow up and check things out: Cyra-2, the formidable lady cyborg officer and fierce combatant better known as Deuce. Fresh from her latest upgrades and rebuilds at HQ, she was itching for a scrap, and if presented with
Jesus death was not a sacrificeJesus death was not a sacrifice.Jesus death was not a sacrifice3 years ago in Articles & Interviews More Like This
That's what some people say nowadays to invalidate Jesus death.
God is a God of order. He reigns with righteousness (Psalm 5:8, Isaiah 33:5) and He has a law (John 14:15, Psalm 119:33-35).
When a human law is broken there is a "payment" to make, either by going to jail, doing community service etc. When God's law is broken there's also a "payment" to make. It is the just thing to do.
'...sin is the transgression of the law' (1 John 3:4) and 'the wages of sin is death' (Romans 6:23). When Adam and Eve broke God's Holy Law (Romans 7:12), they sinned, condemning themselves and their generations to die.
Couldn't God make it so they wouldn't have to die? Why are the wages of sin death?
The problem here is not God. The problem is sin. When they sinned they stopped being perfect1 and imperfect people can't have perfect babies, that's why we all have (inherit2) sinful natures.
Perfect + sinless = ete
The MessiahWho is the Messiah? How can we recognize Him?The Messiah1 year ago in Articles & Interviews More Like This
Centuries ago prophets spoke of the coming of a great leader. He would be sent by God and would be called God's Anointed One--the Messiah. The ongoing interest in the state of Israel awakens renewed interest in the Messiah. Here are six descriptions that identify Him:
1. He must be of the lineage of Abraham.
Moses recorded the promise of God to Abraham in the following way: "In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 22:18).
2. He must be of the tribe of Judah.
When Jacob was dying, he said: "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of people be. (Genesis 49:10).
3. He must be of the house of David.
In Isaiah's prophecy of the Messiah we read: "Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his king
On Holiness: Subtle CrossesOn Holiness: Subtle CrossesOn Holiness: Subtle Crosses3 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
We have to be careful of how we approach holiness and how we better ourselves in Christ Jesus. Indeed we are to 'pick up our crosses and follow Him,' but how often is it that we chase holiness as if we know what is best? For Paul says that "God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with [that] trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it" (1 Cor 10:13). Indeed James also says "Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire" (James 1:14).
What does this mean? Simply this: even our desire for holiness can be a cause of temptation and sin when we dictate it. We often desire glorious crosses/paths to holinesspersecution, evangelization, greater prayerand often neglect the very clear signs God gives us. We tend to ignore the "subtle crosses." For rather than being in fire, earthquakes, and driving winds (i.e., our ideas of glory and faith) God is in a "tiny whispering sou

I love God because even though I do many mistakes, He always forgives me when I tell Him sorry.
I love God because whenever I talk to Him, He is there.
I love God because He loves me even though I mess up.
I love God because He always answers my prayers, His own way.
I love God because His way is always the best.
I love God because I enjoy being with Him.

I love God because when He doesn't give me what I want, He gives me better.
I love God because He is stronger than my enemy.
I love God because He can do everything.
I love God because when I travel, I don't have to use a long distance phone to call him.
I love God because He always has all the time for me.
I love God because I can't pay Him back, and I don't need to.

I love God because I can always ask him for help.

Its hold is too strong for my weakness....
Can't I be freed? From this constant guilt?
Will my failing send me to the fiery gates?
Can the tears I shed ever be enough?

Only one who can wash these tears away.
He sent His Beloved Son, to shed His blood for me.

On Arguments (and how we Consume Them)My friends,On Arguments (and how we Consume Them)3 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
Life's experiences teach us many lessons that we should apply to our interior as well. Take, for example, eating. When we eat sweet things like candies and cakes it is no doubt that they are pleasant and readily consumable. But it is also obvious that if we subsist on these things we will become fat, lethargic, and unable to eat more bitter things because we are accustomed to sweetness. In like manner, when we eat only bitter foods and coarse meals we are often unable to distinguish tasteseither because it is too bland or because the intensity of sweetness is now too strong for us.
How similar is this to our intellects! When we indulge ourselves on easy arguments, arguments that are readily consumable and require little more than our assent (because we agree with them already) we become intellectually lazy, tired, and unwilling to work on more difficult things. These arguments are sweet to us because they support us, but when we consume too much of them we have little

The two animatronics had wasted his remaining power and now Freddy was coming to play.
His blue eyes lit up with the demonized lullaby in the entrance, watching him, waiting for Optimus to move to jinx himself.
“Freddy! You’re a little asshole, Freddy!”
The day of salvation came finally; the clock struck 6 AM. Optimus leaned back on his chair with his hands covering his face. Sure he got a victory, but…he had two more nights

One of the biggest questions that I get from other christians is this: How do I spread the word of Christ? I am not a missionary and my job and hobbies do not allow me to share His word. Let me tell you one of my own stories:
I may have said this already, but I am a martial artist. Of the martial arts that I practice, the only one that I practice competitively is Muay Thai. At the beginning of each match my opponent and I must go through a traditional Muay Thai ceremony called the Rahm Muay. This is basically a dance done before a match that is meant to honor Buddha...the religion of Thailand where this art originated. When I was going into my first match and I was told to do this dance...I didn't want to because I didn't want to honor Buddha...he's not my God.
So I bent the rules a little. Instead of honoring Buddha in my movements, I was crying out to God...praying to Jesus for safety and for a good fight. Needless to say, my Muay Thai teacher was blown aw

Imagine it as if it was happening today
The hour was dawning in which it would be His last day
Jesus, took 3 of His disciples and went out to pray
As the death He'd prophesied was but a short time away
He began to be filled with sorrow and became deeply distressed
"My soul is exceedingly sorrowful even to death.."
So strong was his distress that blood expelled as He sweat
Three times He asked them to stay awake and pray but three times they slept.
"Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold the hour is at hand,
And the Son of Man is being betrayed into sinners' hands.
Rise, let us be going. See My betrayer is at hand"
The betrayer Judas arrives and with a kiss hands over the Son of Man
Through unjust trials He pushed right on through
Never denying who He was as King of the Jews
They mocked and jeered and their blood lust grew
Crucify Him! They shouted, though His innocence was proved
Tortured, humiliated, battered and bruised
He knew the cup He'd drink from was to save me and you

it never will boil.
Don't break your head,
don't break your heart -
seek first the Kingdom.
The rest will come.
Don't stand there staring
up into the sky;
don't sit there longing
for dreams to come true.
Don't look at what's missing
but work with what's there -

Today I am so glad that I can be here to stand to for you to testify that I am so grateful that I am saved by the only God the Father of our dear Lord Jesus Christ. I can tell you that a year ago was quite different. I come from a awful past with unreal faith in God that I saw in someone, but I don't blame that person anymore. I was so into the power of a father figure who did horrible things to me. I did so well away from Jesus because I thought: 'If this is love... well I won't want it anymore!" I lost all confidence in the people and in faith. When my parents got divorced it broke my heart even in more pieces. I ended up in a deep valley full of darkness. Yet there came a miracle because my mother went back to marry now a very sweet man, who sits here and who I really

The times Edward Elric cries are rare and few, but the tears that gush up and spill from the rims of his eyes now are without shame and restraint as they just keep flowing, tracing wet lines down his cheeks and dripping from his chin. He doesn't try to hide them or wipe them away as it finally occurs to him how stupid the 'men don't cry' rule is, for what he holds in his arms is the most beautiful, amazing, miraculous thing he's ever laid eyes on; he'd have to be bereft of a soul not to cry.
The emotion that fills his heart as he gazes down at his newborn son is raw and utterly overwhelming. He has never been happier.

In my entry about indirect idolatry, I stated, "I am just as capable a victim as anyone else."
And guess what? I was not kidding.
Lately my brain had been lacking focus and I had become victim to both artist and writer's block. And when I would feel those two blocks, I would lack motivation to work on ideas relating to the stories I want to write about during my free-time. And when I would feel unable to work on those things when I want to, I would distract myself with something unproductive. After all, sometimes you just need to take a nice break and have a little fun...right?
So I had a little "guilty pleasure" with something that I hadn't done in a very long time:
Not that there's anything wrong with them.
But for about a year I had fasted from video games for a reason, and today paid me a reminder as to why. (I'll get to that point later.)
Anyway, at first it started out a

Some may say, whether they are Catholic or not, "Why is the ‘wafer’ and the ‘host’ so bland?"
Perhaps instead of us thinking of the Church as being cheap, stupid, or boring we should look at the intentionality behind the act. The host being “bland” is symbolic. See that the bread is, for us, a sort of deprivation. It is not special, it does not have an exceptional flavor, and with respect to other foods it is bland. But this is exactly the comment that the Church wants to make about Christ: that he became flesh like us. In comparison to the divine our flesh is cheap, and fallible, and bland. This does not mean that that our flesh is “bad” just as this normal bread is not “bad.” Christ, however, by his graciousness took on our weak and fallen humanity to raise it up. We proclaim through our very bread that humanity is simple and lacking, but not bad—in fact the body may be used for holy work and sacred things.
