Still uploading old stuff onto my craft page...
I have a lot of jewellery, (only cheap costume jewellery or silver stuff), and the jewellery cabinets you can buy always seem too small. They only hold a few short chains and there's never enough room to hang up the earings. So I decided to make my own...
The top picture shows it closed, and the bottom picture is it open. The rod with the necklaces on it is on a hinge, so you can swing it forward to get at the earrings hanging behind.
The box of this was made from an old kitchen drawer which I spray-painted in a grey-stone effect.
I made the doors from cut down lengths of pine shelf, and then had the local glass-cutter cut me two bits of plain glass that would fit them.
I wanted the jewellery cabinet to be reminiscent of those old medieval reliquary boxes...which were quite highly decorated and almost garish.
So I glass painted the doors and then decorated the frames of the doors with acrylic paint. I also gouged out the wood of the door so that I could set red glass pebbles into it as well.
As regards the symbolism on it. The right hand door is night/female/winter/water/moon. The left hand door is day/male/summer/earth/sun.
