I like this pic, so it's available as a print too
This ring is a result of my insatiable need to experiment and my inability to throw anything out. Many years ago I was doing some wax carving when my eyes fell on a leather punch sitting on one of my shelves. On a whim I melted some wax and pressed the punch into it like a seal. I got a perfect impression. So I got out all my other leather punches and did the same. I cleaned up the waxes, put them in a box and forgot about them.
A couple of years later I was getting together a bunch of waxes to be cast when I came across the punched waxes. On another whim I sent them off with the rest. When the castings came back I cleaned them up, put them in a box and forgot about them.
Last week while looking for something else I found the castings, and since I was making rings I (on a Whim) soldered a shank to a few of them.
I made this ring on a whim and it took me about ten years...
I've got to admit, I consider this kind of thing to be 'cheating'. I feel slightly ashamed when I look at it. It's snobbish of me, but I can't help it. I guess I'm over trained.
