Official Turian Female sneak peak and N7 Day...
After 5 years, after 3 games and after much speculation we finally have an official in game Turian female. It's shame that Bioware didn't decide to include Turian female models in the main game, because now it feels like a token girl and not much more. Also the fact that it will be featured in the paid Omega DLC makes it even more bittersweet, but hey it's still better than nothing. The DLC will appear on November 27th and will cost 1200 Bioware/Microsoft points. Tell us what you think about her:
For a little comparison I'll hotlink a picture of Lieutenant Abrudas, the very first Turian female shown in the Mass Effect Evolution comic:
In other news - the first N7 Day is coming our way fast. The celebration is schedueled for November 7th. You can find more information about it on the official Mass Effect facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=380737978668258&set=a.259483477460376.58244.256213217787402&type=1

Being active on the site is probably the best and most effective way to get yourself and your art seen. Leaving thoughtful comments on others art will often result in them coming to your page to find out more about you and see your art. Being involved and making friends will promt people to focus on you and your art giving you a bit more exposure. Leaving critiques, helping to moderate groups, posting in the forums, or simply chatting it up in the chatrooms. These can all be beneficial in getting you more exposure. Below I'd like to outline some of the wonderful ways, I believe, you can gain extra exposure to your art.
Joining groups which are relevant to your interests and the art which you make can be very helpful in getting your art out there and seen by like minded individuals. The introduction of groups by dA has made it very e

The Pitfalls of Speed PaintingI've been meaning to write about this for a while now, but recently a video popped on up Ctrl+Paint about the same topic and it encouraged me to finally talk about it. It's a practice that's been misconstrued and misunderstood for a while now, so I wanted to help people get a proper understanding on the subject. The Pitfalls of Speed Painting4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Speed painting has been something of a fad for 4 or 5 years now, even back when I was first starting digital work. Like many artists out there, I thought, "Sweet, I can do really cool work, really fast!" And like many artists out there, in the back of my head I was probably thinking, "This is easier than learning the normal way!"
Well, here's the main problem in regards to speed painting. Any of those really cool, realistic and well done speed paintings you see are done by professionals who have been painting for years and years. These a

Film-wise, I was entertained, though I became disinterested during Jakes' time getting to know the Na'vi and his various induction ceremonies. However the acting, sound design and visual effects were excellent.
As regards the story, I like the overall concept: Indigenous people in conflict with mining interests is certainly a real concern both now and in the past. Its execution in the film however lacked a level of subtlety; I would have preferred to see the Na'vi tribes using the humans as leverage against each other, or perhaps some Na'vi on the payroll of humans as mercenaries and advisors. Perhaps we had some chemical or product (guns to make hunting prey easier?) that might appeal to certain Na'vi. The concept of the 'white saviour' also made an appearance, with the human male protagonist developing a

My own commentary as it relates to deviantart: We can get a little short-sighted here. I've been thinking a lot about this recently because I've been looking at some of those "draw this again!" memes and, while it's really inspiring to see so much improvement in technique, there are very few entries which change anything about the drawing (the pose, the scenario, the background, the emotio

World War 3 may just be months away, with much of the middle east currently being blown apart by missiles and the locals setting their neighbours on fire, but the real news is that the Twinkie, the USA's primary contribution to world cuisine, could cease to be.
"You eat those?" I hear people ask. Hell no. Never eaten one in my life. There's something about their unnatural, chemical-yellow colour and that they have a half-life rather than a use-by date that just sets off one too many alarm-bells.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that if you read the print on the pack, you'll find asbestos to be a key ingredient.
Even John McClane can't keep one down, and he took out a building full of terrorists with nothing but his bare feet and a Santa hat.
Which leads to my point: Without the Twinkie, there are SO many lines from SO many classic movies that future generations just a

Drawing and painting is a bit of an obsession with me, I would still do it if no one ever bothered to look at it, but not at the same frequency. The truth is we post here for others to see it - appreciate it - learn from it - be inspired in some way shape or form. A magnificent drawing means very little if it is not shared, it has no purpose past the point of creation. Creation itself has some value - but many of us would consider hiding something like that a bit of a waste. So that got me to thinking about what exactly is Art, the purpose and what most of us are trying to achieve with it. Like I said I would continue drawing without ever showing it, but I know I would lose some drive and inspiration if I could never get feedback or show it off.

I am often surprised when I talk to fellow birders and peers that are interested in conservation... I am surprised that not only do they not know what the federal duck stamp program is for. Some haven't even heard of it, or think that it is a postage stamp!
I am also frustrated at the birders I talk to that scorn hunters, and yet themselves would not consider buying this stamp. It is estimated that 10% or less of non-hunters buy this stamp. That's pathetic. I have seen people crying that one should consider donating that $15 to other organizations instead, but if one researches into their organization of choice, one will find that most of them contribute far, far less than $0.98/dollar to the fund of choice ($0.98/dollar goes directly toward buying wetlands with the duck stamp program). Go ahead, plug in a popular charity that protects wetlands! See where your money really goes. http://www.charitynavigator.org/ With many of thes

On TES elvesAlright can I just say how much I love the elves in the Elder ScrollsOn TES elves2 years ago in Personal More Like This
J.R.R. Tolkien popularized elves as these otherworldly, divinely beautiful creatures which sorta established the standard for the race in all modern fantasy that came after. They're nearly immortal, distant, and to me, plain boring. Then around comes Morrowind, the game that really made me fall in love with TES, its world and its lore!! The elves of TES have a long history, and each subrace has their own cultural identity. The elves no longer just sit in their Crystal ivory towers (well I guess some of them do) and sing to their trees or whatever - they're flawed, complicated PEOPLE, and extremely proud of who they are. The haughty Altmer, the hostile Dunmer from the Ashlands, the cannibalistic Bosmer, the late Dwemer and their scientific achievements…. when was the last time any elves modeled after Tolkien's work had this much cultural diversity??

Why do I have to press AND HOLD a button each time I want to pick something up?
Why, in a game, where collecting items is a key part of gameplay, is it so damn hard to get the crosshair to register contact with said item, despite being right on top of it?
I get asked occasionally (well, I think "challenged" is more the word) by some people (snide idiots) if there are any games I do enjoy. Yes, there are many. Too many to list, in fact, so I shall simply summarise:
I enjoy games in which you lose yourself. Games that absorb you into the world on screen. This does not mean the game is some deeply written RPG epic, it just means that you forget you're playing it and feel more like you're living it, be it a simple 2D platformer or fast and furious 3D beat-em-up.

Okay, do you guys know what this means?
Here's the first paragraph of fifty shades of grey.

Reciting this mantra several times, I attempt, once more, to bring it under control with the brush. I roll my eyes in exasperation and gaze at the pale, brown-haired girl with blue eyes too big for her face staring back at me, and give up. My only option is to restrain my wayward hair in a ponytail and hope that I look se

$4 Billion? (£2.5 Billion, in real money)
Not as much as Pixar.....but then, if Lucasfilm were a house, JarJar would be the devaluing, sh*t-stained carpet a new owner would have to deal with.
And, no, I'm not going to denounce it. Disney buying Lucasfilm? That has potential, and I'm not talking Star Wars, here.
If I've read the press release on the Disney corporate website correctly, they now own EVERYTHING – including Lucasarts, which is a division of Lucasfilm.
Monkey Island/Day of the Tentacle/Sam & Max + Disney? That could be amazing!
As for the (inevitable) Star Wars 7, I'm really hoping they use the Thrawn Trilogy. In fact, I'm betting they do. Let's face it; Disney haven't ever had an original idea, that's why they keep buying up other people's work, and if they're hoping to have something released by 2015 they'll have no choice but to dive into existing material.
Of course, if they produce a Satur

If so, I really hope they go the whole hog and make Batman old.
If it were my project, I'd write it so Batman had been at the crime fighting game for decades prior to the alien-in-tights showing up. With Superman around, what use is there for The Batman? The authorities have always been gunning for him, but the public had an uneasy tolerance. Now everyone see him as a dangerous liability.
Of course, Batman is the toughest, most cunning man on the planet. If you could just take him out, it would have been done by now. So Superman is asked to deal with him.
The whole story would be based around the conflict of ideals: both support the concept of justice, but while Superman has faith in the system, Batman sees it as totally impotent and has taken on the responsibility of supporting it on his own shoulders.
And Batman would win.
Batman ALWAYS wins.

After getting out of a slump, I wanted to share this story of something I went through a few years back. Bit of a read, but thanks for sticking through it
As you know, Comic-Con is arriving and as I prepare for it, I grow more and more anticipated with anxiety/joy in regards to the re-release of Last Man Standing.
As long, challenging, and mind-opening the creation of LMS was, something really stuck with me.
Before I had created LMS, I wanted to work for WETA Workshop. To those that don't know them, they've created props, designs, sets, costumes, and more for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, District-9, Elysium, The Hobbit and many more films.
I was obsessed and inspired with them. The creator, Richard Taylor was always a huge inspiration to me. After viewing supplements on the Extended Editions of The Lord of the Rings DVDS, I knew right there: I HAD TO WORK FOR THEM.
So I al

The Avengers is probably one of the most epic movies I have seen since the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Harry Potter. It's up there. It's not perfect, and some moments seem to drag on a bit (mostly around the middle), but every key moment is accentuated properly, every line delivered in such a way that you don't miss out on what's going on, every action scene composed in a way you aren't confused, and overall the whole thing is just a joy to watch.
What's really fun about this movie is that they don't hold back. Ever. Everything you want to see in a movie about the Avengers is pretty much up on this screen. You wanna see Thor and Iron Man duke it out? You got it! You wanna see an army of aliens attacking a city? Got it. You wanna see Tony Stark deliver hilarious banter aga

Since when did skill in drawing = how good of an artist you are?
I'd like to know.
Of course, we all know drawing is a fundamental skill in which every "artist" is expected to understand the Elements and Principles of Art and Design with because these elements and principles translate to ALL forms of visual art.
LETS STEP BACK AND THINK.........
Think of Art Mediums like Musical Instruments.
Think of Drawing as the Piano.
It's the instrument that most people develop an understanding of Music Theory to begin with.
But what if you picked up a guitar first instead of a piano-- and y

Their "solution" to this is to shut down the government (something which isn't possible in any other nation on the planet), which will cost more, decrease public spending, lower the demand for imports, damage global economy and generally tarnish the U.S's international reputation even further?
