Heroes Can't Get Cooties
Your legs swung lazily back and forth as you watched the clouds roll by. The sky was bright and blue, no hint of dark clouds anywhere. At least, as far as you could see through the light green leaves of the park's trees. It was a wonderful day.
Alfred Jones sat next to you on the wooden ledge, swinging his legs in sync with yours. He was a good friend and longtime love interest. You tried to let him know without being too forward or blunt about it, but it appeared he was so dense he never thought anything more of it than friendship, let alone love.
Maybe you could try again today.
"So," Alfred sighed, pulling you away from your train of thought, "I'm hungry."
"You're always hungry," you pointed out, glancing sideways at him.
He ignored your comment. "I want ice cream."
"I'll have some," you said simply, staring back up at the sky.
Alfred started shuffling through his pockets. "That's cool. I think I have enough money."

You held your floppy hat on your head with one hand as your hair danced and your sundress fluttered in the warm breeze. The sand was soft and warm under your feet and between your toes, and the waves rolled up serenely onto the beach. You were fooling around taking a stroll down the beach, throwing your weight from side to side while you walked and still trying to place your feet in front of the other to leave neat footprints in the sand.
You were waiting for tomorrow. You were so impatient, but nothing could be done about it. Tomorrow would be the day where you would have to go back to the crowded airport you arrived at days earlier to pick up your longtime boyfriend, Alfred F. Jones. Yes, he insisted on the F. You were really excited because he was often away on business, and even when he wasn't he lived far away. Of course, his business wasn't all that typical, and he was not a normal man. But you couldn't tell anyone about it, and you

Tonight it was Halloween and your best friend Alfred join you on your trick or treating hunt,
You were dressed up as a badass pirate and your Alfred was a crazy chainsaw guy.

"Hey, Dude!" He greets you, holding up some video games, "I found these on sale at Game Stop. Want to try 'em out with me?" He asks, already knowing the answer.
"Hell yes!" You squeal, "But hang on just a minute, I have some chores that I was supposed to do. Make yourself feel at home though, Alfy." You walk inside, leaving him to close the door. Adjusting the scarf around your neck and pulling the black miniskirt down a bit more onto the underlying leggings, you joined the line stretching from the food-obtaining station to the door. You sighed. This was going to take a bit.
In order to occupy yourself, you looked over the guy standing in front of you. You had seen him around the hallways, but never gotten a good look at him. He was fairly well built, with golden blond hair and an odd cowlick that seemed to never stick down. He turned slightly, giving you a view of his face. You noticed his eyes especially. Hidden behind his glasses were two bright sapphires.
While being distracted by Blondie, you realized you were close to the front of the line, only one person to go. That's when you saw what they were serving. Hamburgers? You freaking loved those thing

But at least you'd get to hang out with Alfred now! He was your best friend, and as such always knew what to do to cheer you up. Though you kind of felt like he wouldn't be able to help you out this time, since this was a really bad funk, you figured it'd at least be fun!
Oh boy, how wrong you were. About him not being able to cheer you up that is. Alfred could sense your despair as soon as he saw you. For a guy who was often accused of not being able to "sense the mood", he sure could read you pretty well.
"Awwww, what's wrong, __________?" He asked, concerned.
"Nothing, Alfred." You lied, knowing it was pointless. He'd annoy the hell out of you until he got you to fess up. He was oddly sweet like that. Maybe that's why you were secretly in love with him?

You bowed your head. You had been watching Alfred chop wood outside the window. She couldn't meet Mrs. Jones's eyes. How on earth do you go about telling another woman you were just ogling her son? It wouldn't go over well. You were starting to think deeply about your own family. Alfred's was tighter knit than yours. The woman in front you could be pushy but she wasn't demanding. Mrs. Jones expected honesty and hard work, but respected distance and personal issues. She hadn't forced you to talk at all that summer but she had put you and Alfred's other friends to work on the farm, probably taking advantage of having extra hands.
"I think… I'll go help Alfred chop some firewood…" you said evasively.
You walked out the door without another word. Alfred grinned and waved you over the moment he saw you. There was a second axe sitting by a stump at his side. You grabbed the second axe.

You staggered through the front door of your house, exhausted from a long day at work. Pushing through your bedroom door, you picked up a TV remote and PlayStation remote without even pausing on your way to your chair. Your friend Alfred had recently bought you the gaming system, as well as some new shooting game of some sort. You weren't really interested at the time, but after work all you wanted was to kill something. Metaphorically, of course.
Dragging your feet, you finally reached the plush, black hammock-chair. You flung yourself down onto the cushions. Stretching out your stocking-clad legs, your black heels clopped to the floor uselessly. You twisted in your chair until you were comfortable, then turned on the TV and gaming station.
Al had uploaded the game and everything, so all you had to do was press play. Which you did. Still in your charcoal pencil skirt and burgundy blouse you held the controller in unsure hands and started the game. 007:

You hated this cursed occasion, every year round. On Valentine's day every couple in school seemed to be completely induced in love-stricken admiration of each other. What was so romantic about that anyway? Flowers would die in a few days, and an overdose of sweet treats was sure to bring either the dentist or the doctor calling.
