Derrick or Dereck-028 better known as the "Black bird" was a Spartan that served to the ONI (office of naval intelligence) whose purposes were entirely secret for the UNSC. After years of questioning his existence, and why they had chosen him to be a spartan serving naval intelligence independently.
he discovers that he was a experiment which consisted in creating other spartans very faster THROUGH the subtraction of DNA of other spartans, in this case the spartan Tex-D41 which was captured. Derrick was the only that could be created, he born with all the skills of D41,practically can be considered her "son".
the difference of this proyect is that there wasn't nessesity of kidnap a earth child, the other advantaje was that he didn't need too much training, only a few tests such as the increase for his strength and intelligence to remain stable.
sadly he was the only one that could be created by this project the restant children didn't "born" or died at the young age of life for their instability.
He decides to leave after discovering the truth about that was not human at all and it was only used for selfish ends in the same ONI. begins to question his superiors about who's him, and where's "his mother" (D41 escaped while after she was used to that experiment and her whereabout is actually unknown.)
then Derreck escape from the facility and joins the UNSC as "a spartan more" to find her, wherever you she are. and besides that he has no other choice, since according to him " he is nothing more than an experiment whose objective will be the same." But he will discover what he is capable. once he find the spartan where he was created, probably his true and only family.
he meets Daniela (my AI OC) when he joins to a spartan group because the interest to know more about his mother and her probable location (remember that Daniela was the old AI of Tex-D41).but he's not the only that will be looking for someone...ONI decided to recover 'what is theirs'.
personallity and traits-Derrick is a cold person in most of his personallity, He's strong and very intelligen but sometimes he can act misled or confused with what his peers do or people's manners, That's because he was being raised in a facility of soldiers and spartans, he never lived the childhood of a normal child in earth.
-can be very aggressive and has come to kill when he is overwhelmed by confusion and lack of identity, specially when he don't find the answers that he want (like the pic that he's haning a ONI soldier) .
-his only close friend Daniela is "the voice of reason" because she knows how to calm him in the most tense or difficult situations.
-wears a Recon helmet, probably for steal data when he worked for ONI.
-physically has some features of Tex as the blueish/black hair and eyes (brown eyes that changued for blue because the secondary effects of the experiment).
-despite being so strong, he has weaknesses, like losing his temper easily, get confused and not focus on the mission for several reasons. many of these situations he was almost killed in some missions.
-there are situations where he had the mentality of young children about "the humans" because he doesn't know the manners of the other recruits or people who had a "normal life" before.
- he have a huge interest for fly, this is represented as the use of the jetpack and because he is very effective when he's flying with any weapon at the hour of killing enemies:alone or accompanied, small or large .one of the reasons why he's called the
Blackbird.
- Dr. Hasley describes him as a
lonely crow on a leafless branch looking in the midst of destruction caused by him
