A certain pegasus flew back into Ponyville to find the entire town completely deserted. She flew all around, obviously checking the homes of her friends. Twilight’s Golden Oaks Library was all books and no ponies, every dessert in Sugarcube Corner was left untouched by Pinkie Pie, Sweet Apple Acres had no work of Applejack’s done, the Carousel Boutique had no Rarity for all those dresses, and Fluttershy’s cottage didn’t have a single living thing even living there.
Once Rainbow Dash checked everywhere else, she did find one caped figure standing in front of the town square. Next to the figure was a life sized statue of Rainbow Dash, but it was wearing a helmet, a red cape with a golden zipper, red strap on and a cloud making a yellow lightning bolt on it, and four golden gauntlets with tiny white wings for each hoof of the statue. The helmet and gauntlets were rainbow colored and had golden coverings to assure they were made of metal.
Once she flew close enough,
My Thoughts on Queen ChrysalisAnd now we come to the last of my character discussions with the Queen of the changelings, Chrysalis. My Thoughts on Queen Chrysalis4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
Right from the start I feel that I should say that this character was effective in her reveal because I honestly wasn't expecting this character to be who she ultimately turned out to be. When I first heard that the plot of "A Canterlot Wedding" was going to involve Princess Cadence in some way having "a dark secret", what I imagined happening was that she was going to turn out to be some sort of villain with a typical villainous plan. And at first that was exactly what I was seeing, Cadence doing evil things and then declaring that she does indeed have some plan in mind.
So at this point the story was going exactly as I predicted. But then part two pulled the rug right from under me by revealing the real Princess Cadence in the caves with Twilight. I was genuinely shocked. I had not thought of the possibility that the Cadence I'd been watching was some sort of impostor. And so, when C

"Well... eh... um... I really wish we could have just deal with things peacefully, I honestly don't like to fight. But when I saw my friends in danger I... did what it had to be done. I am not proud of it, I cried for hours after hurting those monsters. But it was the only way to save my friends." Princess Megan Fluttershy of Equestria
JANUARY 1, 1000 AD
The trio instantly emerged at the teleportation machine at the Millennium fair grounds. No one was around. The air was crisp, and the trees were green. There were no knights or monsters hanging around. It was midday.
Twilight Sparkle turned and looked at Fluttershy. "Sorry for putting you through all that, Fluttershy."
Fluttershy looked at the girl with a strange expression on her face. "Are you kidding?" She asked. "That was the most fun I've had in years! We'll have to do it again sometime!"
Twilight Sparkle laughed. "Okay guys," She said. "I'm going to head back to

So the episode starts with Twilight leaving her home and going around town, singing the episode's first song about how great the day is, only to be interrupted by a splash of water. At first she thinks it's Rainbow Dash messing with the weather, but is shocked to find that it was actually Rarity, who is doing Rainbow's job, and even more surprisingly, has the latter's cutie mark, leading into the show's opening titles.
After the title sequence, Twilight asks Rarity why she's changing the weather and has Rainbow's mark, only to be told that Rarity thinks she's always had that mark and duty. Twilight finds Spike and brings him to Fluttershy's cottage and explains what she saw. There, they find that Rainbow Dash has taken up residence there and, despite not being very good at it, is trying to control Fluttershy's
My Thoughts on SpikeMuch like my chequered history with main characters, I've also had various issues with character belonging to groups other than those targeted as a show's intended audience. By this I mean that if a show is meant to be watched by a certain group of people , and then included a character which does not belong to that specific group, their portrayal has often been hit-and-miss in terms of their quality. My Thoughts on Spike4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
Take this show for example. Despite it unexpected male audient it remains at it's heart a show intended to be watched by young girls. As such any male character shown in this series would have always had me worried. Whenever I've glanced at shows meant for this demographic in the past, the portrayal of male character has been either as incompetent and foolish who can't do anything right, or outright brutish in a manner that makes all boys/men out to be bullies.
Even though this is the start of the "supporting characters" analyses I'll be doing, technically Spike the baby dragon is officia

#73) My best bro and I have been bronies for a while now. I would never bring up being a brony on purpose to anyone who didn't know. But now we're doing a project in Literature class, and my friend is doing his on how he became a brony. I don't think it's a good idea. In fact, I find it embarrassing. What should I do?
Answer: This is something that seems to happen reasonably often people become big fans of "Friendship is Magic", and then fancy teaching the world to sing by shedding light on it in a class. And while you could argue that older individuals liking the show is an interesting point of observation, it's not particularly academic (not in terms of literature, at least) and so a presentation on it doesn't seem appropriate in general for that type of class.
It might be because I'm in the UK, but I know for a fact that if I presented on MLP in one of my university seminars I wouldn't be taken seriously by the teacher or the students. We tend to do

Bathing in prismatic light
Awaking free at last
Able to move on my own, I'm back in control
Only blurred memories left
Glimpses of the past
In my dreams I still walk the surface of Moon
I saw my home
From where I stood
What once was my home
From my thousand-year room
Isolated on the Moon
Locked within the abyss of time
A voice echoed in my mind
A shadow reflecting life
Resentful thoughts enslaved my soul, my heart
How did it wish to break free
Torment the world once seen
How did I wish it to leave my soul, my heart
Long years alone
Friendless and cold
Alone with my thoughts
One tormenting soul
While my spirit roamed the Moon
Locked within the abyss of time
So warm it feels to walk on earth
So much it heals to see living world
So much it calms to meet loved ones
My Thoughts on Twilight SparkleThroughout my life I've had a fairly difficult relationship with regard to main characters in kid's shows. In my experience they've effectively been boiled down to one of three options. Either their so perfect and so unbelievably good that it's hard to get invested in them as character, so flawed that they cross the line into flat-out unlikeable, or in many cases simply so bland and boring that I have no real connection or interest in them whatsoever. My Thoughts on Twilight Sparkle4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
I need you all to understand this history I've had with main characters so you understand how important it is when I say what I'm about to say.
Because in my opinion, Twilight Sparkle is without a doubt, one of the greatest main characters ever put in a kid's show. No, I'm not joking. This is the first time in a very long time that I've come across a main character that's managed to find that very elusive sweet spot in terms of their general characteristics. She's not unrealistically good and wholesome, she has flaws but never so many tha

Exile (Part Two)
Stars tumbled through the sky. The Princess of the Night lay in the castle courtyard alone, watching her carefully crafted heavenscape. It brought no relief to her. Her insides were cold; she felt empty. Her mind was filled with regretful and stinging thoughts. She should have spent more time with Celestia. She should have kept a closer eye on her. She should have been the one who disappeared. She should have, she should have, she should have. In the end she hadn’t.
One star reminded her somewhat of herself... The pole star. It was one of only two of its kind. They were opposites, to be sure, but both shone brightly. All the other stars revolved around them. The pole stars never moved. Apart but equal. One could never see both at the same time. If only...
An idea struck Luna. She stood up and brushed the grass off her coat. As she closed her eyes, a blue glow surrounded her horn. Far over the hor
My Thoughts on DiscordNow it's time to talk about the second major villain of the series. The spirit of disharmony, Discord. My Thoughts on Discord4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
I've said this about him before but in many ways he stands a a villain in stark contrast to Nightmare Moon. Consider this. When Nightmare faced the main six, she was very direct in her methods. She would often use physical force, or the force of others, to try and stop them. Inflicting physical harm on her enemies was her priority when dealing with them. That, coupled with her serious personality made her, despite the points I spoke of in my last essay, a very traditional villain.
But when thinking of Discord, I cannot help but think that this was a villain seemingly born out of a dare to see how much they could make a character who was the exact opposite of Nightmare. His personality was not serious or focused, it was aloof, getting bored with any situation easily and doing only what he did for fun. He had no grand scheme in mind, no ultimate goal besides doing whatever he wanted, wh
My Thoughts on ApplejackLet me get something out of the way right now. I liked Applejack when I first saw her in the first episode. This is something that needs to me made very clear because, under normal circumstances, I'm not a particular big fan of stereotype characters. When I say that Applejack is a stereotype, what I mean is that she very much seemed to embody many of the traits that people have of those in the Southern United States. The accent, the farm, the big family, the hat. If it wasn't for Applejack's more redeeming qualities I'd have probably dismissed her.My Thoughts on Applejack4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
But like I said, Applejack has redeeming qualities to her. Many in fact that, like with Fluttershy, far outweigh any of the negative things I'm about to say about her in this essay.
First, let me talk about some of her good points. Being a person who works frequently in a farm environment, she is, naturally, a very hard worker. I've always had an appreciation for the kinds of people who do this kind of work, especially when they put so much

As the Wheel Turns
Snips and Snails were dripping sweat as they struggled to drag along the heavy wooden cart that dug into the ground. The cart plowed up the dirt and left a sizable trench in its wake. They looked at one another, tired and worn out from pulling the new tyrant of ponyville to the edge of the forcefield. They stopped for a moment to take a quick break. As soon as they had stopped, a glowing red whip snapped at their backsides from mid-air.
"Pull you fools!" the whip snapped it at them twice more. "Somepony set off the magic forcefield and Trixie intends to punish them!" shouted Trixie as she prepared to whip her subjects once more for good measure. She did not have to go through with the final whip, as the two simpletons had begun to move twice as fast as they previously were. Snips craned his head back towards the unrelenting whip wielder.
"But wouldn't it be faster if we had some wheels?" he asked nervously, his voice higher than usual.
Trixie's head snapped up and he

So our episode begins with the main ponies waiting to see if Rainbow Dash receives a letter of acceptance from the Wonderbolt Academy. She's confident she'll get in, a sentiment which is soon justified when she gets her letter as hoped. After saying her goodbyes, she flies off, leading into the opening credits.
After the title credits we find that Rainbow has arrived at the academy and has joined a group of other new recruits as the squad leader of the Wonderbolts, Spitfire, looks them over. She's a fairly strict drill sergeant, as shown when one of the recruit's boastful comments lead to the whole group being sent to do laps. Most of the recruits struggle with doing all five hundred except for Rainbow and the recruit who boasted earlier, both of whom seem to be on par with each other's speed. She names herself as Lightning Dust as the two become fairly friendly.

So the episode starts with a scene from last week's episode, wherein Twilight and the other ponies leave Spike to care for their pets while they leave to catch the train to the Crystal Empire. After that, we find that the ponies of the Empire are excited because their nation is set to be chosen for the Equestria games, a major sporting event. Rainbow vows to help them get their nomination, having been there when her own home town of Cloudsdale was not chosen to host the games when she was a child. , leading into the title sequence.
After the title credits we find that the six ponies are practicing some of the dances and song needed to impress the upcoming inspectors when their train arrives at the Empire. Looking around, it's clear that all of the Empire's citizens are excited and working hard to make sure their home is chosen for the games, making Dash even more dete

So the episode begins with Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie Pie and Spike waiting for the arrival of Princess Celestia, who is supposed to be turning up with an "Important visitor". After waiting, they find that, as the princess arrives, the visitor in question is the still-imprisoned form of Discord, an enemy they defeated in the previous season. Twilight is visibly upset by this, but Celestia assures them that his powers can be used for good if he is reformed. When she says that the six ponies will be responsible for this, Twilight accepts.
The elements of harmony are brought in, with Celestia having apparently cast a spell to prevent their being hidden like last time. Celestia comments that Fluttershy is the best hope for Discord's reform and it turns out that she is currently with Applejack to help resolve and issue with a beaver (don't ask). The two are even
My Thoughts on the CakesThe Cakes represent something that for one reason or another, you just don't see. They are a complete family. Oh sure you have the occasional visit by parents to the main six and sure Applejack's family make regular appearances throughout. But this is the first and only traditional family you see throughout the entire series. As I said in past essays, this show takes pride in portraying families in a positive light, and how important family members can be to a person. A such I'm rather confused as to why this is the one and only family structure of it's type seen in the show.My Thoughts on the Cakes4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
Unlike other supporting characters, the Cake family do not get much in the way of development as they have had very few episodes devoted to them. And even when the focus has been on them, the episode is usually about how the other ponies interact with them and what lessons they can learn from doing so. But as much as I might want these four characters to be developed more, I will say that I enjoy watching them and

So our episode begins with a mysterious hooded figure rummaging around some trinkets in an old house in the night. The shopkeeper arrives and ask what the figure wants, and the latter points to an object on the shelf known as the "alicorn amulet", one of the most powerful magical charms in Equestria. At first he refuses to sell, but one bag of gold soon changes his mind, leading to the opening credits.
Afterwards, we find Twilight and Spike are at Fluttershy's, practicing her magic by levitating the animals. After that, it's revealed that this was in preparation for an upcoming visit by Celestia and a few diplomats, when Rainbow Dash comes crashing in, telling Twilight that she's needed in town. They arrive to find that the hooded figure is using magic on Rarity, much to the latter's dismay. Twilight demands to know what's going on and the hooded figure reveals herself
MLP - If they were humanAs I'm sure many fans of MLP will know, there are many artists out there who have made picture showing what they believe the characters of the show would look like if they were human. These types of pictures have always interested me and as such I thought I'd have a crack at putting down my own interpretation. Now I'll say right now that I've never been much of an artist, having most of my submissions be literature. So instead I thought I'd write about what I think they'd look like if they were human.MLP - If they were human3 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
And just for the record, some of these interpretations may be similar to what other artists have already done. And if that's the case, then I apologise in advance.
Okay, let's get the easy one out of the way first. I think my vision of Applejack is pretty much in-keeping with many other people's interpretations of her. Orange wrist-length shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots, and of course, her trademark hat. I have little variation to offer on this count. When it comes to her physi
My favourite MLP momentsAs I was writing my updated list of favourite MLP episodes, I thought occurred to me. In many cases, an episode's quality will be uplifted by a few specific scenes, or perhaps even a single moment. Even if an episode is otherwise lacklustre to me, there will often be brief moments within it that managed to make me like the episode as a whole. In fact, there are certain scenes and moments in the show that go even further than that, and actually elevate the show above the kinds of stuff that kids are being given by other shows. My favourite MLP moments3 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
Because of this, I decided to make a list of some of my favourite scenes or moments in the show. Now please bear in mind that this list will not be in any particular order of preference, nor will I be putting down every single moment I like from every episode. But still, these are the moments from MLP that tend to stick out in my mind for one reason or another, so let's take a look at them.

Our episode begins with Applebloom at home worrying about finding the right outfit for the arrival of her and Applejack's cousin, Babs Seed. Applejack informs her that she need not try to hard to impress during their first meeting, given that, like her, she has no cutie mark. This revelation causes Applebloom to run out and find her friend, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, leading into the episode opening sequence.
After the opener we find that the three young ponies plus Applejack are waiting at the train station. They invite her to their clubhouse and offer her an invitation to join their club. Despite the crusaders' best efforts to make her feel like it's a good idea, Babs see
