Since a young age, I have always been fascinated with flight. Growing up, my parents were good friends with a group of pilots. They specialized in cinema stunt work for movies. Every time I had the opportunity to go up in an airplane or helicopter, I took it. In the photo below, I'm in the center seat of a friend's helicopter. It was so fun!
As a youth, I would draw all types of planes -- jet fighters being the most exciting. Growing up on a healthy dose of Star Wars and G. I. Joe also fueled my love for flight. Other kids were infatuated with jets, too, and could rattle off all sorts of information about their technical aspects. I constantly checked out huge reference books from the local library because I was always more interested in drawing them than studying how fast they could fly or how much thei
Having an assistant is pretty awesome.I want to thank everyone that offered advice on hiring an assistant in my last journal http://dragonsandbeasties.deviantart.com/#/d5iitev It really helped me figure out what I needed to do. And now, after a couple trial days of working together this past week, I've decided to hire Dezi :iconxlightangelwolfx: as my assistant. She doesn't have much on her DA page yet, but I am encouraging her to build up her online portfolio. She already enjoys sculpting and has made some really cute little dudes while she's been here in the studio. She's been a huge help this week with getting caught up on emails. She's a rockstar so far and a lot of fun to work with!Having an assistant is pretty awesome.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now, I don't want anyone to think this makes my emails and messages less personal. I get asked a lot of the same things over and over, so they're easily answered, but just take time. More complicated ones Dezi reads to me, and I tell her what to type in response, so she is basically just taking dictation. It's a huge relief knowing I'
About PassionI'm fairly young, I understand. I have a life ahead of me to figure things out. My ideas about what I want and what I need will change. However, that hasn't stopped me from experiencing passion, and I'd like to share with you things I've learned about it.About Passion9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Passion rewards intrinsically, and I believe that's perfectly put. *scratches my head* It's really difficult for me to describe to you what exactly I mean by that because it's terribly simple. Passion is an internal matter. For example, my passion is learning about life. I loved handling various organisms that my AP Bio class got to study. I didn't love it because what we were studying was cute (hell, we studied the behavior of pill bugs one day). I loved it because as I was learning new things I could feel the pleasure centers in my brain FIRE. The kind of fire that slowly seeps into every crack of your mind and warms your soul. The kind of fire the makes your being vibrate. I also got that feeling elbow deep in a

To watermark or not to watermark?Watermarking is a term used loosely to describe:To watermark or not to watermark?2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
- Branding of your images in a subtle way, such as across the bottom or even on a solid color bar to one side of an image;
- Marking a solid logo and/or copyright across your image, disturbing part of the subject. The watermark may be opaque, partially transparent or even embossed;
- Digitally labeling your image with a copyright that is not actually visible.
Now, the big question for photographers is should you watermark your images, and if so how?
Reasons photographers add a watermark to their images - PROS

Weapons Rant - Bo Staff It’s been a while since my last weapons rant and because the new TMNT show has been out for a while, I’m probably not going to give away spoilers here. First off, I am extremely glad that they haven’t pulled the ‘Raph breaks Don’s Bō staff over his knee’ shtick since that first episode. Maybe the writers realized how unrealistic that would be and shelved it.Weapons Rant - Bo Staff1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Long and elegant, versatile and deadly, the Bō staff is a weapon for beginners and Masters alike. Due to its weight and size, the traditional Bō is wielded with both hands. The Bō is probably one of the first weapons that mankind used to defend himself, coming in right behind the fist and the rock. It is also known as a distance weapon, since you don’t need to be at close range to utilize it.

My foray into the world of Skyrim... Day 4Day 4My foray into the world of Skyrim... Day 41 year ago in Personal More Like This
Off on my new quest to visit Riften, I had my first random dragon encounter. Damn thing had me cornered on the mountain (cuz I was trying to glitch my way through the mountains faster) and it nearly killed me. But somehow I managed to take it down with only a sliver of life left. Hooray!
Stole a pony and then quickly got caught for it forcing me to pay the fine. I stole another pony and it was going nicely until I dismounted. The horse then promptly disappeared and I never saw it again. Curious...
Completed the golden claw quest on my way to Riften too. That was a quest I was long overdue in checking back in on.
It took me a while to figure out how to get to Riften. There's a big mountain in my way so taking the straight path wasn't an option. Along my journey I came across a fortress that had been overtaken by thieves. Upon inspection inside it seems to have become a dog fighting betting parlor. Details such as this are why I enjoy games like Skyrim. Nobody sa

Advice on hiring help?Ok guys. I'm super serious this time. I am going to hire an assistant. I've been looking at all the legalities of it and honestly, I'm rather confused on how to go about it. I can't figure out if it's an employee or an intern or how to define it I guess. This has been the one thing that has kept me from hiring help in the past. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doingAdvice on hiring help?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Basically what I would want help with:
- Answering emails, comments, and questions
- Photographing products
- Posting items
- Keeping up with social networking (facebook, twitter, etc.)
- Boxing, shipping, post office runs
- Keeping studio clean and organized
- The occasional errand or supply pickup
- Committed to 2 days a week during the afternoon here in the studio
Now the tricky part. I really want someone interested in my work. Someone that sculpts or even just wants to learn sculpting, and possibly even wants to work towards their own online business. I don't want someone making my dragons. I want to h
Reunion Pt. 4Before Shaw could fully realize what was happening or even stumble in the sudden darkness he had found himself engulfed in, he realized he was off his feet, suspended high above the ground in the dark void which Naga had turned the room into in his sudden outburst. Something was constricting him, an invisible hand crushing his torso, his arms wrapped close to his body. He felt a sudden painful shock along his spine and the back of his skull as he was slammed violently against a shadow covered wall, a second thud beside him could be heard immediately after. In his daze he could hear whimpering coming from the source of the second sound. Dread forced its way into his mind driving his limbs painfully numb and lifeless. Another whimpering cry emanated from beside him. He knew now he was not alone in what was to come, but he could not see just who it was. A low, angry growl filled the room.Reunion Pt. 42 months ago in Personal More Like This

Critiquing Critiquing StoryStory: Turns out you're doing it wrong.Critiquing Critiquing Story6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Everyone is- and what's more, anyone who tries to make a foray into storytelling without having mastery over their efforts merits endless scorn.
I've had the privilege of sharing advice with some other creators of late, and seen some of the (usually anonymous) criticism being leveled at their work. It's noteworthy for being intense, superficially sophisticated, and misguided.
Now, there are two kinds of creators out there. Those who don't give a fig for what other people think, and dismiss all criticism out of hand.
...Those creators tend not to improve.
Then there are those who care about the quality of their work, take pains to make it enjoyable for others, and are receptive to feedback.
These individuals have the most potential as writers, and are also most vulnerable to their efforts being permanently deformed by vindictive critique.
They'll be assured their characters are flat cutout
